Chapter 35:

Fierce Rebellion

Echoes of Lost Memories

The town was still in an uproar ever since Blackwood and Scarlet escaped, there was a lot of unrest since the Cosmocrats were monitoring every inch of the place. They were in disarray. Typically, they were calm, but this time they were not. The group knew they could not hide for much longer. While watching the strange Cosmocrat ritual unfold, Blackwood could not stand it any longer and revealed himself to them interrupting them. The Elder was more surprised about Flen fighting against them.

Grandmother Mimi slid down the hill, “Wait, for me!” Her feet were pushing a small pile of dirt while she came down. Earlier in the day, she saw Blackwood transferring his remaining powers to Scarlet as he knew she would find more use in it than he would. He was only going to rely on brute strength, and she wanted to help him since it was her specialty. She pat Blackwood on the back, he almost fell off his feet with the amount of strength she had. They placed their backs close to one another in a fighting position.

The number of Cosmocrats that stood in front of them was many. They yelled and chanted.

TRAITOR!! TRAITOR!! TRAITOR!! TRAITOR!!

The Elder Cosmocrat stepped forward and was charging his spell. His cane glowed with white circular vibrations being absorbed in it. Not wanting to see the spell cast, Blackwood ran toward him quickly and swung his fists viciously. One of his punches hooked under the Elder’s head, it wobbled loose and started to roll away. The body was chasing the head. Another Cosmocrat grabbed the head and screwed it back on the Elder.

Blackwood stared at his fist.

I didn’t realize I could throw a punch that hard!

Flen was watching carefully and was trying to understand the situation.

Maybe that’s why he needed a new vessel; the Elder’s body was old and frail.

The Elder stomped his feet and moved his hand forcefully at Blackwood, Flen, and Grandmother Mimi.

The Elder said, “GO, GO, GO!”

The Cosmocrat army obeyed his command and started casting spells.

Blackwood’s animal friends joined in on the fight. Soka the boar rampaged through a line of Cosmocrats with immense strength. Its snout dug beneath the Cosmocrats and launched them in the air, causing them to fall all over. Roin, the black bird, was standing on the boar’s back directing it on which Cosmocrat to attack. If the Cosmocrats moved closer to the boar, Roin would peck them until they bled.

During the battle, the Cosmocrats chanted in unison unleashing their ferocious power together. The combined energy of the army clustered into numerous rays of light beams, it was like a geyser, ready to burst. Everyone was ducking for cover as their spells rained down.

The Elder laughed as he stood back and enjoyed the entertainment.

HAHAAAAAA HAAAAAA

One of the streams of light hit the black bird Roin off the boar’s back. He felt flat on the ground with his feathers all crisped up. Soka, the boar, was worried and grunted while carrying Roin in his mouth over to where Blackwood was shielding himself. Flen had created a small temporary barrier for them. Grandmother Mimi was beating up as many of them as she could. They found themselves incredibly outnumbered by the Cosmocrat army.

Blackwood stroked Roin’s burnt wings, “Buddy…”

Roin’s body suddenly glowed a bright silver. His body began to stretch out and grew longer. With all the random spells combined, they unintentionally turned the black bird back to his original form. He was a thin frail scholar; he was still weak after getting hit.

Roin opened his eyes, “Long time, no see, Blackwood.”

Blackwood saluted at him, “Welcome back, man.”

Soka’s eyes widened, he found out his friend was a human all along. He rubbed his tusks on Roin.

Roin chuckled while stroking Soka’s tusks, “I guess I can’t eat those parasites off your back anymore.” Soka grunted, he was happy Roin was still alive.

“Hey Roin, stick close to Scarlet. She’s heading over to the Memory Bank as we speak. You can probably help her translate what was written in those books if needed.”

Roin nodded as he limped. Soka urged him to ride on him, and they went together.

Valerius's secret army from last time in the ceremony arrived in time.

“Didn’t think I abandoned you, did I?”

Professor West and Nurse Alena came onto the field, too. They were tired of the Cosmocrats and wanted to seek their own freedom.

Professor West stepped in with his loud footsteps.

“Bring them on! I’ve grown tired of their ridiculous laws.”

Nurse Alena was ready to heal anyone who needed it. She was fast and alert in most situations. She leaned against her curved bow and softly smiled.

Valerius joined side by side with Flen to fight them off.

“Flen, you know what to do.”

Flen nodded, “Ready whenever you are.”

Meanwhile, Scarlet headed over to the Memory Bank. She noticed Kina was waiting for her.

“Kina!”

She ran over to her.

“You didn’t even tell me you were leaving and now, you’re back, don’t expect me to greet you in anyway.” Kina pouted.

“I’m glad you came.” Scarlet hugged Kina tightly.

“Hey!” Kina smiled. “The Cosmocrats have been getting out of hand lately. I came to help in any way I can, too.

As they entered the Memory Bank, there was a lot of chaos occurring. The goblins were shrieking and running in every direction.

The old man was in the building, wreaking havoc. He pushed his wheelbarrow running over the goblins, they screamed in agony.

“You vermin…”

Then, a goblin approached Scarlet and Kina.

Kina yelled, “Out of our way.”

The goblin placed its hands on its hips and laughed. She waved her right hand over and revealed that she was the old man’s maid Rini.

“I’ve been disguising myself as goblin so the old man master can retrieve as many books as he can. Since the Cosmocrat rebellion started, he decided to do something, too.”

She glanced at Scarlet, “It’s nice to see you again dear, but you really need to work on your stalking skills. You were quite terrible at it when you were following Valerius. He smelled you a mile away.”

Scarlet then remembered, “So you were the goblin that handed him something. What did you hand him?”

“My dear, I handed him the secrets of how the Cosmocrats came to be.”

She whispered in Scarlet’s ear. Her eyes widened.

Scarlet entered the hidden room with the giant Memory Book again.

Oooooahh OooooooooooooooooAaaaaahhhhhh

The opera singing vibrated through the walls welcomed her.

She spun around in a circle in the room, with her memories of Rose, she had spells ingrained in her mind. She started to draw a circle with one of the pens the goblin had around with unique abstract shapes and symbols.

She clasped her hands together to meditate and yelled, “Release!”

She summoned all of the memory books. One by one the books were forcefully pulled from the shelves. They hovered in the air in every corner of the room. She then approached the largest book. The wind blew her hair strands around covering her face. She stumbled, the pressure from the wind made it challenging for her to walk in a straight line. The wind did not pierce her as it did before, it seemed like the bracelet that the witch knitted for her deflected its lacerating force, leaving her unscathed.

She was able to approach the largest Memory Book without any injuries.

The book glowed a deep red and in a demanding voice said, “GO AWAY, GO AWAY!”

She noticed that under the multiple chain links, it was attached to a rose shaped lock. She lifted her key necklace.

It’s worth giving it a chance to see if the key can really open this.

She inserted her rose sculpted key to unlock it.

Clunk Clunk

The red aura of the book vanished along with the opera singing and gushes of wind.

She saw a woman spirit unleashing the light and more memories surged through her body. Her eyes, mouth, ears were flooded with this light. The chain was removed, many flashes of light spiraled uncontrollably. Flashes of memories into her. She then fainted.

Kina came back to the room and led a small group with her to start burning all of the books.

“You guys are so slow.” She said sarcastically.

Kina pulled out her spear and summoned a ring of fire to burst out. The flames were flickering hot creating a heat wave. The room was smoking.

Meanwhile with each memory book burnt, the Cosmocrats seemed to have lost some of their powers. The memory books absorbed the people’s energy and it was converted over as fuel for them. They did not need to sustain themselves by eating, they just needed to feed off the townspeople’s energies.

Switching back to the battle scene, Blackwood, Flen, Valerius, Grandmother Mimi and the others were doing their best to fend them off. The Cosmocrats were sneaky though it seemed like they could blend in with their surroundings. Pim wiggled his body, he observed and felt there were some objects that were suspicious. He used his third eye to dissolve the disguise of some Cosmocrats, thwarting their plans. Pim chased after the drummer Cosmocrat who was pretending to blend in with the trees. He expanded his mouth as wide as the Cosmocrat’s height and swallowed him whole. The drummer dropped his drumstick in slow motion, and it pounded its last beat.  Ba Bum

Burp Wooo Wooo Pim roared his battle cry.

Valerius’s special forces were relentlessly fighting against the Cosmocrats as well.

With each book burned, the Cosmocrats lost some of their energy, but it was not enough to fend them off completely.
