Chapter 35:

Chapter Thirty-Five

The World That Found me

It was another short dream, much like the first one. I was back at my high school, alone again. I was in the middle of one of the halls on the second floor, walking back and forth. Though I recognized the rooms and the walls around me, I couldn’t find my own classroom. The numbers and letters signaling each classroom were jumbled messes, and the hall stretched forever, presenting an endless row of classrooms, and a line of windows that pointed to the same outside scenery of an empty courtyard.

After some walking, I came across a flight of stairs, with one path heading upwards and the other heading down. I wanted to find my classroom, but at that moment, I also wanted to breath fresh air. Remembering what happened on the roof last time, I headed down the stairs and walked towards the main entrance. As I walked the hall and turned the corner, I saw her again. Dawn stood there, her back facing me. Her hair had two different sides. Her right side was her loose flowing black hair, and the other with a brown, braided pigtail. She had a pair of glasses in her left hand, but nothing in the other. I raised my arm to try and reach her, and I was surprised that I wasn’t held back. I took one step, and then another, heading to her in a slow, but deliberate pace. I didn’t want to call her, thinking that I was still unable to make a sound, but noticing my movements, I decided to give it a try.

“Dawn,” I said in a voice unfamiliar to me. She didn’t respond, and she didn’t turn around. I stopped when I was within arm’s reach of her. She took a step forward before stopping, raising her left arm and dropping the pair of glasses. I braced myself for her words, her actions, the one motion that I knew was coming. Her left hand became a fist, and she started to turn around, making sure I could only see the left side of her. There were no words, but her expression spoke for her. I didn’t know what to do. There was an urge to stay still and await what she was going to me. I expected it, and I wanted to agree with it.

But as I tensed up and readied myself for her to approach me, I felt something raise my arm. I looked around but saw nothing. I listened to my surroundings, and I could hear gusts of wind alongside crashing waves. They surrounded my body, removing the rigid feeling from within me. Dawn didn’t react, still focusing on her own actions. The sounds grew louder around me, lifting my other arm and forcing me to take a step forward. The urge to stay still was being siphoned away, and I felt sparks inside myself. With a scream, I ran towards Dawn, arms in front of me with the sole purpose of making her stop.
