Chapter 2:

The Lawless Lands II: Shattering the Void

Kingdom of light: Stories untold

At the climax of the war,

A ruler and an old god would bring it to an end,

But at a price nobody expected…

Many of the Old Gods were dead, only Vacthius remained. Both sides had sustained heavy losses throughout the whole ordeal. The Old God of Void often took to the battlefield, tipping the battle in his favour whenever he did show up. Only two of the five Rulers were able to contest with him, the First Queen and Aurum I, which is why they had both unanimously come to the decision that one of them would have to fight Vacthius directly if they wished to bring an end to the war. So, at the crack of dawn, the two launched an offensive against the Void King, consisting of only each other. They set out to take the life of the final God. Having understood what they were trying to do, Vacthius remained in his throne room, awaiting his challengers. The First Queen and Aurum cut down anything that got in their way, eventually reaching the throne room where Vacthius stood waiting. The two rulers took one glance at each other before engaging in battle. A direct battle against the Void proved to be troublesome, for each strike he threw ripped through space itself, meaning if it even grazed one of them, it’d be over. The First Queen and Aurum hadn’t spoken of how they were going to fight, but they were in near-perfect sync. Out of all the Rulers, these two were the perfect duo.

In a hypothetical situation where all five Rulers were to fight, the others had agreed that those two were to be taken out first. Even for the daughter of Star, the Old God proved to be more than just old. Aurum had a backup plan, one she hadn’t told her friend, for if she had, she would’ve stopped her. Aurum planned on using forbidden magic. Forbidden magic is several magical powers and abilities that were used by a higher being. The reason why they are forbidden is that only said higher being is capable of using it without any backlash, but Aurum didn’t care. As the Ruler pushes herself to her feet, she quietly chants the incantation for the spell. Black veins emerge from her fingertips and run up her arm. The First Queen could do nothing but watch as a tremendous amount of magic gathered around her friend. Vacthius knew what was happening. Aurum landed a series of blows to Vacthius’s body, taking the battle outside the castle. The First Queen rushed to the edge to see that the two were still fighting. Aurum relied on both affinities as she raised her hand to the sky, commanding large iron spikes to pierce Vacthius, though he was able to carve through them with ease, he still had a hard time against Aurum herself, but now he had more freedom to exert his destructive power. The scene that played out before the First Queen was like two Old Gods fighting instead of an Old God vs a human. The fight would remain grounded, to the First Queen's surprise, the fight was brought back into the throne room, Vacthius came barreling down as he regained his footing, Aurum followed, she reeled her hand back as a dark blackish red color moulded around her right arm, Aurum pierced Vacthius through the chest, the strike let out a power burst of wind. Aurum withdraws her arm and stumbles back as she leans on the First Queen, cracks forming from the point of contact, the power was eating away at Vacthius, who grits his teeth as he watches his death come to pass. In an attempt to take his opponent with him, he attempts to gather void, only for the forbidden power to accelerate its decaying process, but that isn’t going to stop him. Void energy bubbles all around them as the entirety of the Lawless Lands begins to shake, the two Rulers quickly pick up what is happening. Vacthius planned on bringing the entire land under. Without wasting another second, the Rulers left, leaving Vacthius to die alone as they ran for the mainland. The Old God's last ditch to sink his kingdom was all a distraction, what he did wasn’t known, as eventually the Old God was nothing more than a swirl of energy. The First Queen and Aurum stand on the edge of the cliff, looking out at what used to be the Lawless Lands, regardless, they had brought an end to the war. Aurum I would pass due to the backlash of the forbidden magic.
