Chapter 64:

Veil of the Shadow Hunter

Veil of the Shadow Hunter

Leegna stood still, catching his breath as the reality of his situation slowly dawned on him. His body ached with exhaustion, his once bright and sharp vision now dulled. The toll of his battles, the pressure of the Time Guardians, and his use of power had left him on the edge. His hair, slightly longer and streaked with more gray than before, reminded him of the price he had already paid.

Unlec, standing beside him, remained cautious yet intrigued. Despite the situation, he couldn't shake the memories of his past — how Yuj had come into his life and shifted everything. The manipulative demon had sensed something in Unlec, even when Unlec tried to outwit him. It was a gamble Unlec had lost the moment he attempted it, leaving him bound to Yuj, yet with a twisted sense of purpose. Now, following Leegna, he felt his old dreams of making something of himself start to burn again. He might not be the star he imagined, but he could still make his mark by standing with the one who would rewrite everything: Leegna.

The eyeless creature hovered nearby, its presence a mix of ominous power and eerie calm. It had saved them both from the nameless being sent by the omnipotent one, and now it seemed to watch over Leegna and Unlec, as if anticipating the next move.

Leegna wiped the sweat from his brow and glanced back at the towering realm they had just escaped. He had felt the presence of the Time Guardians closing in, their watchful eyes upon him. He knew they wouldn't give him any rest, not after what had transpired. And with Yuj still imprisoned, the stakes had only risen higher.

"The Time Guardians," Leegna whispered to himself, recalling their near-omnipotence. "They won't stop until they bring everything back under their control. Gersong may be gone, but the realm still holds its defenses."

The realm's mechanism was preparing to unleash a destructive force, one designed to trap and destroy anyone inside its walls — or worse, to use their souls as vessels for the never-ending rebuilding of the Time Guardians' tower.

As Leegna's thoughts swirled, a ripple of energy surged through him. His precognitive power flared to life without warning, offering him a fleeting glimpse of what lay ahead. In his mind, he saw the looming figure of the Dark Embassy's strongest hunter. The one that neither belonged to the shadows nor the light but something far more dangerous. A faceless silhouette, with the power to tear through both realms, was drawing near, and it would stop at nothing to eliminate Leegna.

The warning was clear. This was a foe like no other, one with the power to peer into the very souls of its opponents. And the more Leegna considered his next steps, the more the number in his mind dropped. From two to one.

Time Leap.

The thought felt like a whisper in the back of his head, an urge rising within him. He had only two uses left, and yet... something warned him that if he didn't act now, the consequences would be unimaginable.

Yet, Leegna hesitated. His precognitive power, although faint, suggested a different path. This wasn't the moment. He needed to trust the abilities he already had.

His eyes, glowing with the eerie blue hue of his power, locked onto Unlec. The human seemed ready, clutching the weapon Yuj had crafted for him. A gun-like tool that could pierce through shadows and celestial beings alike. Unlec's role was clear, but his future? Uncertain.

Unlec gave him a quick glance. "We can't let this thing get any closer. What's the plan?"

Leegna clenched his fists, feeling the Velvet Cloak's power swirling around him, the darkish glove expanding as he tapped deeper into his ring's energy. The eyeless creature seemed to sense his resolve and drifted closer, almost as if embracing both him and Unlec with its protective aura. It was as if the creature was buying them time, but for what?

"We hold our ground," Leegna finally said, his voice calm yet determined. "We face this thing. I'm not using Time Leap now. There's a bigger game at play."

And then the presence grew stronger — the figure from his precognition, the silhouette that was neither shadow nor human, drew closer with every second. The air thickened, the pressure building, and yet, Leegna felt an unshakable sense of clarity. His eyes narrowed, a fierce glint flashing in his dark blue irises.

The final piece of his future power, the true veil of the Shadow Hunter, hovered on the edge of his consciousness. He didn't fully understand it yet, but he could feel its presence — waiting for the right moment to be unleashed.

But before he could dwell on it, the creature from the Dark Embassy, the hunter, finally appeared in the distance. Its form was grotesque yet elegant, its faceless head twisting as it stared directly at them.

Unlec raised his weapon, the eyeless creature shifted in readiness, and Leegna took a deep breath.

The final battle was about to begin.
