Chapter 65:

The True Veil of the Shadow Hunter

Veil of the Shadow Hunter

The Dark Embassy had begun its assault.

Shadows twisted unnaturally as Leegna stood, his breath heavy but his resolve unshaken. The eyeless creature hovered close to him, protective and silent, while Unlec stood at his side, gripping the weapon Yuj had forged for him. Together, they formed an unlikely trio—a powerful entity bound by fate, a manipulative human, and a creature without sight but with vision beyond worlds.

Leegna could feel it again—the weight of the realms pressing down on him. His body had not yet fully recovered from the toll of his power, his skin pale, his hair longer and streaked with the gray that came from his time leaps. Yet, this time, something was different. He wasn't alone anymore, and that alone changed the dynamic of the coming battle.

The persecutors from the Dark Embassy approached, their figures mere silhouettes in the shifting darkness of the parallel realm. These were not ordinary foes—they moved like shadows, each step an echo of the void they came from. And yet, Leegna could feel something more. These beings were born from the very essence of realms that should not have touched his world.

"Leegna, they're coming for you," Unlec muttered, his voice tight with tension. "They won't stop."

Leegna turned his blue eye towards the approaching figures, feeling the energy crackling through the air. His right eye activated, the world around him taking on a sharper, more vibrant hue as his precognitive power surged to life. He could see the persecutors' movements before they made them—their attacks, their evasions. But there was something more lurking beneath the surface of his vision, something deeper.

Why am I destined for this? The question surfaced in his mind as if placed there by a hand unseen. And with it, the faintest echo of an answer began to take shape.

As the persecutors lunged forward, Leegna's instincts kicked in, fueled by a force far greater than he could comprehend. His rapier slashed through the darkness, cutting through shadows and celestial beings alike. Each strike was precise, powerful, and calculated. He felt his power surging beyond what it should, as if the veil between him and something far greater was lifting.

The eyeless creature darted in, swift and efficient, wrapping around Leegna and Unlec to shield them from a deadly blow. For the first time, Leegna could feel the creature's energy coursing through him, its presence not just protective, but enhancing him—making him faster, stronger, more attuned to the enemies around him. It was as if the creature was merging with him, becoming an extension of his own being.

Unlec's weapon—Yuj's dark creation—fired with a precision that stunned even Leegna. Every shot cut through the shadows, opening blind spots for Leegna to exploit. The human who had once been lost in his own ambition now stood as a valuable ally, playing his role with an intensity that only survival could bring.

But even as they pushed forward, something tugged at the edge of Leegna's consciousness. The Time Leap... The warning came naturally, unbidden. His mind flashed with the image of the number two closing to one. He had two remaining leaps, and yet, in the midst of a fight where they were winning, the urge to use it crept into his thoughts.

Why now? He wondered, slashing through another enemy. His mind raced, but his instincts told him to hold back. The time wasn't right yet.

As the last of the persecutors fell, the ground trembled beneath them. The sky above darkened, shifting as if in response to their victory. Leegna's gaze turned upward, his breath catching in his throat. This was not over. The fight had been fierce, but something even greater was coming.

In the distance, something stirred—a figure emerging from the darkness, larger and more ominous than any of the persecutors they had faced. This being was different, neither shadow nor human, but a soul-like silhouette radiating a danger beyond anything Leegna had felt before.

"That's it," Unlec whispered, stepping back, his eyes wide with realization. "The one with no name..."

Leegna tightened his grip on his rapier, his body thrumming with the energy he had barely begun to understand. He felt the veil lifting even more, the truth about who he was—why he was the Shadow Hunter—hovering just out of reach.

Suddenly, a voice echoed in his mind, dark and cryptic: Be agile, betray time again, and steal what's yours...

He felt it, the weight of his destiny pressing down on him, the hint of the true purpose of his role. His mind raced back to his precognitive vision, his path suddenly clear, but with it came more questions than answers. The time to learn why he was meant for this was close, but the enemies standing in his way were even closer.

The fight had only just begun.

Leegna stood firm as the new threat approached, his determination rising. He had fought many battles, faced shadows and celestial beings, but now, as he stared down this nameless enemy, he knew that the time to reveal his true potential as the Shadow Hunter was drawing near.
