Chapter 20:
Famous Gamer Girl is My Childhood Friend (Vol 1)
Bringing Yuki back was not easy. It required a long, difficult, and tearful conversation. She had been hiding out at her parents' house, consumed by guilt and shame. She apologized to each team member individually, explaining everything, not as an excuse, but as a confession. Forgiveness wasn't immediate or universal, but the foundation of their friendship, though cracked, was still there. They agreed to let her back on one condition: she would be instrumental in exposing the unethical practices of the Tokyo Knights.
The plan they devised was pure Stardust Breakers: a blend of high-tech savvy and theatrical flair. Their target was the upcoming "Delta Strike Invitational," a major tournament that both the Knights and a new Ronin Corp team, led by a cocky player Tanaka had poached, were attending.
Phase one belonged to Haru and Emi. Calling a permanent truce, the rival pranksters combined their skills. Haru, using his grey-hat hacking talents for good, found a vulnerability in the Knights' internal servers. Emi, with her analytical mind, created a program that could sift through mountains of data, flagging conversations that mentioned "Stardust Breakers" or "competitive intelligence." Together, they found the smoking gun: chat logs from the Knights' manager, explicitly instructing Yuki to gather intel on Shouka's strategies and Haru's personal life.
Phase two was Shouka’s strategy. They wouldn't leak the information to a gossip blog. That was Tanaka's move. They would reveal it on the biggest stage possible.
The tournament began. The Stardust Breakers played with a renewed ferocity. The cracks in their foundation had been filled with something stronger than before. They weren't just playing for a trophy; they were playing for each other. They dominated their way to the Grand Finals. Their opponent, as fate would have it, was the Tokyo Knights.
Just before the final match began, as the casters were building the hype, the massive screens in the arena suddenly flickered. A message appeared: "A Special Presentation from Stardust Breakers."
What followed was a masterfully edited video. It started with Yuki, looking directly into the camera, tearfully confessing to her role in the espionage. But then it cut to the chat logs, the damning evidence of the Knights' systematic spying, not just on them, but on other teams as well. It ended with a simple, powerful statement from the entire team, delivered by Kimi.
"We believe in competing with honor and integrity," she said, her voice ringing with authority. "The actions of the Tokyo Knights' management are a disgrace to esports. We are here to win, but we will not do so in a system that rewards cheating and manipulation."
The arena was stunned into silence, which was then replaced by a roar of outrage from the crowd. The tournament officials immediately paused the event. An investigation was launched on the spot. By the end of the night, the Tokyo Knights' manager had been fired, and the organization was facing massive sanctions.
The Grand Finals were postponed, but the Stardust Breakers had already won the bigger battle. They had exposed the corruption, not with anonymous leaks, but with courage and transparency. They had taken a painful betrayal and turned it into a catalyst for positive change in their sport.
Weeks later, the official season was about to begin. The Ronin Corp team had fizzled out, and Tanaka had been quietly reassigned after the scandal embarrassed his company. The Stardust Breakers were back in their training facility, the atmosphere light and full of easy laughter. Yuki was back at her station, her friendship with the team slowly, carefully, being rebuilt.
Shouka stood in the center of the room, looking at his found family. The journey had been insane, a rollercoaster of impossible victories, painful betrayals, and ridiculous detours. They had faced down ghosts, machines, and corporate villains.
"Alright, everyone," he said, clapping his hands together. "First practice match of the new season. Let's show them why we're the champions."
Kimi walked over and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. "Ready, clumsy kid?"
"Always," he replied, a wide, happy smile on his face. He looked at his team, his family, and felt a profound sense of peace. The game was just beginning.
