Chapter 21:

Chapter 21: The New Season, The New Rivalry

Famous Gamer Girl is My Childhood Friend (Vol 1)

The new season of the Delta Strike Global League began with Stardust Breakers in an unfamiliar position: they were the establishment. They were the reigning champions, the heroes who had exposed a major scandal, and the team everyone was gunning for. The target on their backs was the size of a small country. Their response to the pressure was to lean into what made them unique: their chaotic, yet unbreakable, bond.

With the Tokyo Knights disgraced and Ronin Corp in disarray, a new power rose from the West. "Valhalla," a European super-team, had been dominating their regional circuit with a revolutionary playstyle. Their leader was a charismatic Swede named Lars "Odin" Ericksson, a strategic genius with a flair for the dramatic. In interviews, he lauded Stardust Breakers.

"They showed the world that passion can beat prediction," Lars said in a pre-season broadcast, his English perfect and accented with a cool confidence. "They opened the door. We have simply perfected what lies beyond it. They play with chaos. We command it."

The inevitable first meeting between the two teams was hyped as the match of the century. When it finally happened, it was a slaughter. Valhalla didn't just beat Stardust Breakers; they dismantled them. It was like watching a mirror image, but sharper, faster, and more ruthless. Every chaotic push Stardust Breakers attempted was met with a perfectly timed, even more chaotic counter-push. Every unpredictable rotation was anticipated. They were being beaten at their own game, and it was humiliating.

In the post-match handshake line, Lars clasped Shouka's hand firmly. "You are a talented amateur, Shouka-san," he said, his voice low enough that only Shouka could hear, his smile never wavering. "It was an honor to play against the man who inspired me."

The loss sent a shockwave through the team, especially Shouka. His entire strategic identity was built on being the one who could out-think the predictable. But what happened when the enemy was just as unpredictable, but with better mechanics and coordination?

That night, as Shouka was agonizing over the match replay, an encrypted, anonymous email appeared in his inbox. The sender's name was a single, imposing Greek letter: Π.

The message was short and to the point.

Lars Ericksson is a sentimentalist who has mistaken recklessness for strategy. His philosophy of 'controlled chaos' is an oxymoron and an insult to the purity of logic. He was my most disappointing student. I find his success to be a statistical anomaly that needs to be corrected. If you wish to be the instrument of that correction, I will provide the necessary tools. - Dr. A. Thorne.

Shouka stared at the screen, his blood running cold. Prometheus. Their old nemesis, the ghost in the machine, was offering to help them. The plot twist was so sudden, so absurd, that he almost laughed. Why on earth would Thorne help them?

He showed the email to the team. The reaction was, predictably, one of extreme suspicion.

"It's a trap," Mina said immediately. "He's going to feed us bad info and laugh while we get stomped."

"Statistically, the probability of this being a genuine offer is low," Emi added, adjusting her glasses. "However, the potential rewards, should it be legitimate, are significant."

It was Kimi who saw the strange logic in it. "He's a purist," she said, thinking out loud. "We beat him with something he couldn't understand-passion. Valhalla is using a twisted version of our strategy, something that looks like chaos but is actually based on a complex set of rules. To him, that's not just a strategy he wants to beat. It's an academic theory he wants to debunk. And we're the only ones who can do it for him."

With a heavy sense of trepidation, Shouka replied to the email with a single word: "Why?"

Thorne's response was almost instantaneous. Because you are the ultimate chaotic variable. And I wish to see which force is stronger: his flawed, predictable chaos, or your pure, illogical, infuriatingly effective brand of it. Consider this a scientific experiment.

The enemy of their enemy was, it seemed, their new, very reluctant, and very creepy mentor.
