Shizuka The Yuki-onna Youkai

When night comes, the dining table in Nakamoto household is filled with side dishes such as egg rolls, sweet and sour pork and tempura veggies.

A bowl of warm white rice is placed on Fumiko's side while a bowl of cold white rice is placed on Shizuka's side. On top of that, there is a bowl filled with ice water located besides Shizuka.

"Itadakimasu."

"Itadakimasu."

Both of them says that at the same time. Then they starts eating dinner together. Fumiko is still in her school uniform while Shizuka already changes to her pink pajamas after taking a bath.

When Shizuka takes a side dish like an egg roll, she dips it into ice water before eating it. This is to lower the side dish's temperature so that it is not too hot for her. She does not mind the taste of the side dish after being dipped into ice water as she is already used to eating that way.

The white-haired Yuki-onna Youkai eats her dinner while watching the news on TV. The news she is watching is about the update regarding the flying Tyrannosaurus-like incident.

"That's scary. It happened not too from your school too... Did you actually meet it before coming home?"

"No, I must have missed it during my way here."

Fumiko lies so that she does not make Shizuka worry too much. She continues eating while the TV changes the news to Stargazer Platina talking in press conference. Shizuka starts talking while looking at the TV.

"Ah, look Fumiko. It's the Outer Space Superhero Stargazer Platina. The rumor says that he went to outer space and met aliens. Then he went back to Earth bringing those alien's technology to help other Superheroes. Thanks to him, there is less causality in the past few years."

"Yeah.."

Fumiko replies with disinterested voice and then continues eating.

"You look so disinterested... And to think that you were so excited whenever you talk about Superheroes back when you were still a kid..."

"I'm different from back then."

As they continue eating, the TV shows lots of Superheroes with various costumes arriving at Japan either through plane and ship. Some of them even go through a magical portal provided by magic users.

"Lots of them are coming here huh... Tomorrow's ceremony will probably be the biggest Superhero Day that we ever held for years huh."

"Yeah. The school will end early tomorrow too because of that..."

Fumiko replies to Shizuka's statement before continue eating.

The first Superhero appeared in 8 May 1815 at America. Thus, in order to commemorate that day, people from all over the world celebrate the date May 8th every year within different countries. In current year, Japan is chosen to hold the ceremony for Superhero Day worldwide.

The TV then changes back to Stargazer Platina talking in press conference.

"Lastly, I would like to extend my invitation to not only registered Superheroes but also non-registered Superheroes. I don't mind if you disguised yourself."

(Non-registered Superheroes...?)

Fumiko suddenly thinks of the Giant Superhero Giga Vegandor. Giga Vegandor's modus operandi is to appear whenever a giant villain shows up in Japan. No one knows his true identity since he always disappear without a trace after defeating the enemy.

Most superhero nowadays register themselves to the government in order to receive various supports in exchange for protecting citizens from supernatural threats. However, due to the various and mysterious circumstances of many superpowers out there, some of them decide to not register themselves with the government. 

Superpower is referred to a power that defies the laws of physics such as esper power, magic, futuristic and ancient technology, and many others. Aside from superpower, there is also beings that defies the laws of physics. They referred as Supernatural Beings. That term is used to generalize beings such as Youkai, Vampire, Therianthrope, Ghost, Alien and many others. Their existence is usually placed alongside each other by the public's eyes due to their similar nature.

Fumiko grows up in supernatural environment such as having Superheroes parents and living together with a Youkai. So she has more knowledge about supernatural things compared to average people.

"Lastly, I would like to say this..."

After some talking, Stargazer Platina says that to  says his final piece to finish the press conference.

"Superheroes does not defeat villain just for the sake of it..."

"!?"

Stargazer Platina's words shock Fumiko as it is the same words that her father used to say. As a result, Fumiko has her attention glued to the TV.

"Superheroes' purpose... is to work together with people to change the world for the better."

Stargazer Platina leaves the conference after saying that. At first, Fumiko who had no interest in Stargazer Platina takes an interest in him for the first time in her life. The reason is mainly because he said the exact same words that her father used to say.

"Fumiko?"

Shizuka calls Fumiko's name after seeing her suddenly watch the TV.

"Ah, uh... what is it?"

Fumiko quickly turns her attention to Shizuka after saying that.

"Tomorrow I will be going to the ceremony with my friends. Do you want to come with us? We'll wait for you if you wanna come."

"..."

Fumiko thinks a bit before replying.

"No, I'll stay at home after school."

"Geez, there you go again. You won't make friends if you keep acting like that..."

Shizuka says that she tries to get the tempura veggies using her chopsticks.

"Who are you, my mom? How about you save that concern to your own kids after you get married."

"!?"

Fumiko's words shocks Shizuka so much that she drops the tempura veggies.

(Ah, this is bad!)

Realizing that she said what she thought out loud, Fumiko becomes panic while looking at the depressed Shizuka.

The depressed Shizuka has her eyes darkens and she starts emitting cold aura from her body.

"You're... right... I shouldn't act like a mother when I never even get married. Heck, I never even date a single person in 125 years of my life... Come to think of it, this morning I get an invitation to my cousin's marriage for the next two weeks... and that girl is only 25 years old..."

While she is talking, her cold aura starts affecting the food.

"WHOA WHOA WHOA! MY BAD! I'M SORRY! I'M REALLY SORRY SO PLEASE DON'T FREEZE THE FOOD!"

Fumiko gets panic as she tries pulling the side dishes away from Shizuka. As a result, Fumiko gets to eat cold dinner for the rest of the day.

At the next day in the morning, Fumiko wearing her school uniform is sitting together with many other students in her school hearing the Principal's speech.

Her school's schedule is to attend the principal speech before being released early. There is lesson today so she only brings her wallet and smartphone in her pocket.

The principal's speech is about commemorating the Superhero Day as well as warning for the students to act properly in the upcoming Superhero Day's ceremony.

There are many traffic congestion today due to ceremony so Fumiko chooses to walk home instead of calling taxi.

After she arrives at home, she goes underground using the lift and see that the silver sports car is still there despite Shizuka nowhere to be found.

(I guess she goes there walking huh. Makes sense since the traffic congestion is really bad today...)

Fumiko takes the lift to go up to the living room while thinking.

After arriving at living room, Fumiko relaxes at the sofa in front of the TV.

"Phew..."

Her plan is to skip lunch and take it easy for the rest of the day until Shizuka comes back.

She wants to browse the internet using her smartphone but she suddenly remembers what Stargazer Platina said yesterday.

'Superheroes does not defeat villain just for the sake of it... Superheroes' purpose... is to work together with people to change the world for the better.'

Aside from his words, she also remember that Stargazer Platina will share his plan to deal with supernatural crimes and incidents from all over the world today.

Out of curiosity, she turns on the TV with remote control knowing that the news will definitely cover the Superhero Day's ceremony in Japan.

"... huh?"

What shows in the TV was not the ceremony she expected.

Instead, it shows Stargazer Platina on the stage where as there is a big black hole in the sky right above him.
