Chapter 2:

Prologue

Skylit Roses

"It's the duty of the strong to protect the weak, just because I was born with the ability to use this power doesn't entitle me to a reward for showing basic human decency. No one should have to compensate me for being a decent human being." -Ebony Rose Dragon

Saeha grumbles, pushing himself into a sitting position. The first thing that he saw when he finally peeled his eyes open was his own hair; how in the world did so much of it get in his face? He could have sworn he didn't roll around THAT much in his sleep... He brushes it out of his face, yawning before climbing out of bed, his body locked him into a whole body stretch almost the second he was fully standing. Saeha grabbed his clothes after stretching and made sure to put them on neatly and properly, because Father would hang him from the rafters if he looked like a mess during an important banquet. He grabs his hair brush turning his attention to his hair, now that he was paying attention to it he noticed his hair had gotten down to his knees "Hmm..." He glances around his room grabbing his sword "Sorry Ai, this is probably really disrespectful but I need a haircut." He trims it down so that it only went down to his waist; he sets Ai back in its scabbard, hooking the sword to his waist before pulling his hair up into a ponytail and calling it a day. Saeha studies his reflection in the mirror for a moment before slipping his flute Yīnghuā in his sleeve and pulling on his headband.
When Saeha stepped out of the palace, he was almost immediately bombarded by a rather irritated pair, Jin Zifeng and Han Li, his guards, -Jin Zifeng looked quite a bit more irritated than Han Li but that was beside the point- Han Li crosses his arms "Your Highness." Jin Zifeng brings his hand to his face, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Your Highness, you are aware the point of guards is to... GUARD. You have to come find us when you decide you want to leave the palace!" Saeha puts his hand on the back of his neck, suddenly feeling extremely awkward. "But I just wanted to visit the market..." Han Li shakes his head. "Doesn't matter. We're under very strict orders to protect you, Your Highness." He suddenly chuckles, scooping up Prince Saeha. "If you really wanna go to the market, I can carry you there." Jin Zifeng flicks Han Li in the back of the head. "Knock it off. If a person didn't know any better, they'd think you were trying to court His Highness." Han Li kicks Jin Zifeng in the shin, careful not to harm Saeha in the process. "Maybe I am. Did you ever think about that? His Highness likes me more than you anyway!" Jin Zifeng takes Saeha from him setting the prince back down on the ground before kicking Han Li back "In your dreams, with an ugly mug like that it's a wonder you don't shatter mirrors!" Han Li scoffs "Like yours is any prettier!" Jin Zifeng crosses his arms "At least I have a Fiancee!" Han Li crosses his arms as well "Didn't realize there were women who liked their men more girly than them. Young Mistress Jin how much did you pay your fiancee to agree?" Saeha puts his hand to his mouth stifling a laugh, if he were to properly calculate it he'd probably find that Jin Zifeng and Han Li quarreled more than they actually protected him but they always made sure he wouldn't get hurt in the process of their disagreements so Saeha couldn't really complain -Plus it wouldn't help, Jin Zifeng was too proud and Han Li was too arrogant and they were both extremely pigheaded so arguments were both bound to happen and impossible to stop- "Welp I'm headed to the market." Almost in unison, both men whipped around to face him. "You aren't going anywhere without us to guard you!" Saeha laughs awkwardly, putting his hands up in front of himself. "A-Alright alright, I won't!"

Elias leans against the taffrail listening to his clan members sing shanties to pass the time; the sea foam splashed up into his face every now and then, but he didn't too much mind the cold water felt nice. He glances over out of the corner of his eye as someone comes to stand beside him, a deep steady voice following the man's appearance. "I come out to find my son only to see him staring out at the water daydreaming. Is there something on your mind, Lad?" Elias shakes his head. "Just enjoying the ocean breeze; We'll be arriving on land soon, so I thought I should savor this." His father chuckles, setting his hand on Elias' shoulder. "We'll be settling near a kingdom this time. I want you to speak with their leaders and make sure that won't be a problem." Elias nods, "Yes, father."
