Chapter 2:

Return of the Classroom Tyrant

My Dark Lord Roommate

It’s been three days since I’ve got my new roommate, I’m surprised I got used to her being here so quickly. That said, it’s now Friday, I just need to survive through today and then it’s the weekend. Usually I’d be thrilled about this, but-

“NOW, SWORD APPEAR!”

“...The phrase is Light Come Forth! How can you botch so few words?”

Eve positions her bandaged body as if she was about to start cursing me, I’ll admit I’d love to see her expression under those bandages. Although considering she’s a wrinkled up old hag, I doubt she can even make expressions. As for what Eve is prattling on about, she’s fallen in love with another old anime. Unlike the other one that was more about feudal Japan, this one is about a fantasy world. She seems to be attached to this show more, as well as the hybrid character that turned out to be a good guy. I’ve made a habit of leaving the TV on for her so she doesn’t cause trouble when I leave. That said, right before I left out the door, Eve called out to me.

“Hey punk, where’s the fruit hat?”

“Oh that, in all honesty the last few days were supposed to be free days for me. However, since I was pissed, I brought the hat.”

“Heh, you really sure you don’t want to be my disciple.”

I nod my head no and prepare to leave, but then Eve asked why I was wearing the necklace around my neck. I’m surprised she even noticed it. I decided to show her and talk about it.

“Oh this thing? It’s a necklace that I have to wear to school sometimes. Of all the curse items I have, I don't mind this one.”

“Why’s that?”

“Because unlike the other presents my folks sent me, this one doesn’t bite.”

Her body might be covered in bandages, but I could tell that Eve was trying to nod her head to the information she just received. With that I walked out and headed for school.

After a ten minute walk I managed to make it to school. The Silver Seal Academy, it’s one of the only high schools in zone 7. If you can’t get into this school or one of the other ones then you’d have to commute by train in order to go to school in a different zone. As I walked up the stairs, I noticed some of the students backing away from me and looking at me in horror. *Sigh* Can’t these guys take a joke?

“The hat’s gone! You aren’t gonna break out into strange dances any more!”

Immediately the students began to sigh with relief and run into the school. The celebration hat really is an effective item, when the user wears it the people within range of it begin to dance. To make matters stranger, the school seems to amplify the effects of these items to some degree. It’s strange, why would a school be increasing the power of cursed relics? Welp, nothing I can do right now, let’s just enjoy the school day before the weekend.

I made my way inside the school, and after dropping things off at my locker I made my way to my classroom. Class 1B, not a weird class(apart from me) and at the same time it’s not exactly grand either. As I entered the classroom, everyone started hiding from me. Nina began shielding Stacy and began glaring at me. I pointed to the empty air above my head and they realized I didn’t bring the hat today, is the celebration hat really that scary?

I took my seat, but right when I expected a peaceful day, Nina began walking up to my desk.

“You little creep, you got a lot of nerve coming to school after what you did!”

“Hey Nina, I thought your Macarena was cute.”

“Eek! YOU PERV!”

Nina walked off in a huff, however I was surprised to see Stacy having a light chuckle at her desk. This was the first time I’ve made her smile let alone laugh, perhaps there’s hope for me after all. After that more of the class came in and realized they were safe, the class was practically a full house now. After a while, our homeroom teacher Mr. Maxwell came in. He gave us all his usual greeting.

“*Yawn* Morning everyone, wow looks like everyone came in today. I thought half the class would be missing like yesterday, unless-”

Mr. Maxwell began to look at me, he immediately exhaled upon seeing the hat was gone.

“Thank god, Tom you should know by know that we hate that damn hat.”

“Noted!”

“...if you know then why did you bring it?”

He couldn’t help but mutter to himself about my prank from over the past few days, at least he had a good moon walk. However, something seems different about Mr. Maxwell. By now he’d usually be prepared to fall asleep at his podium. He must have something worth announcing today.

“Oh yeah, so one of our fellow students is finally returning to school. You guys probably have an idea and yes it’s hi-”

*BASH*

Immediately all eyes turned to the doorway, and half the class like me were terrified. We knew that sound from anywhere, the sound of our classroom door being kicked open with an air of entitlement. There in the doorway stood a high schooler who could pass as a grown man, he had his usual shaggy black hair and violet eyes. With a bulky build that made half the school’s sports teams want him. He was Bernard Spurman, our class’ biggest trouble maker and the resident school bully. However, that wasn’t the main reason people tried to stay clear of him. Bernard walked up to the podium where Mr. Maxwell was and slammed a bag onto it.

“Here Teach, I brought you some beans from my family vacation. Be grateful!”

“...yippee, hooray! Sorry if I lack the enthusiasm, and thanks for the exotic coffee beans.”

As Bernard referenced, he’s been on vacation with his family recently. After a two week absence he’s finally returned, damn it why now! Then there’s that bravado, but considering his family’s connections it makes sense. The Spurman family is associated with the Lancers, Bernard’s ancestors to be precise were one of the pillars that held that organization up. Due to that, even after all these years, the Spurman family still receives benefits due to the groundwork laid by their predecessors. Not to say Bernard’s parents don’t put in the work, they work for the military’s arms division so they handle paperwork. Then there’s the matter of their son, they’re actually pretty decent people. Bernard on the other hand enjoys milking his grand dad’s legacy. I get your family is a part of the Lancers but this is ridiculous. Bernard walks back to his desk at the center of the classroom, smiling as people cower in fear of him. As he takes his seat he glances over at Stacy, after that he sits with his feet on his desk, and with that same arrogant smirk he always wears.

After the tyrant made his reappearance, everything slowly turned back to normal. Mr. Maxwell gave a short lecture and then turned our class into a study hall. After screwing around for a few hours, class was over and everyone started preparing to leave for home. I gathered my stuff for the day and began to head for the door, but before I could leave something caught my attention.

“PISS OFF MONKEY BRAINS!”

I turned around to see Nina defending a cowering Stacy, it looked like Bernard was trying to make moves on her. As usual his two nameless cronies were flocking behind him, they were hyping him up as he continued his advance.

“Come on, I’m the king of the school. It’s only natural to want a queen at my side, so Stacy why don’t you take that place?”

“Bernard…”

Stacy’s voice was soft, you could tell she didn’t want to be bothered with this. Stacy isn’t a strong person, so this whole confrontation must really be sapping her strength. Nina’s guard dog routine kicked into high gear.

“I TOLD YOU LOSERS TO BACK OFF! Stacy doesn’t want anything to do with you assholes!”

“One, this is between me and your master. You can butt out of this dog, and second that wasn’t a request. It was a demand, now take your place beside me Stacy!”

Bernard began moving closer to her, and pushed Nina out the way. With Nina on the floor Stacy had no barrier to protect her, Stacy began to panic as Bernard drew closer to her. No one else was around and Nina was shaking off her damage. Bernard was about to put his hand on her, and that’s when my body moved. I placed my hand on his shoulder, startling him and Stacy who noticed my presence.

“...Leave her alone.”

“What?”

“She doesn’t want some brute like you to keep her company, so stay the hell away from her and leave her alone!”

I think it was the adrenaline pumping through me that made me say that, I’m as startled as the people around me. Taking the opportunity Stacy ran away, seeing that Nina got up and began to follow. Before running off however, she told me this.

“Thanks loser, I owe you one. Actually scratch that, this is me receiving payment for that stupid dance!”

With that she ran off, talk about a cheapskate. At least try to set me up on a date with Stacy or something. That’s when I realized the situation I was in, I just stopped the class tyrant during a conquest. I immediately turned around to see Bernard, two cronies glaring at me. Then those two got the most heinous smirks on their faces. I need to get the hell out of here! Was what I thought, but fate had other plans. Those plans being a strong and firm hand grasping my shoulder, and holding me in place.

“Where the hell are you running off to, I think our little hero needs a reminder on how the real world works. Right boys!”

Bernard and his cronies laughed as they hauled me off, why did I make such a dumbass decision?
