Chapter 14:

Breaking the forth wall... badly (my b)

A School Christmas Story

James ran along the snowy path through the blizzard, freaking out the whole time. The chill went through his body as he felt the numbness all around him. He looked back to see if Dommy was chasing him, and saw nothing in the snow. James thought for a second that he could slow down, he remembered John Paul’s ability to teleport, and realized that he could afford to.

“I can make it” James muttered to himself as he fell into the snow. He tried to get up, but lacked the energy as he started to feel oddly warm.

“Crap” James realized what the warm feeling was, that he was getting hypothermia, and if he was out here long enough, that he would die from the soul wrenching cold that was embracing his body. Fear was the only thing that was keeping him going at this point.

He thought of drinking the snow to get rid of the thirst from the running, but remembered what that did to you; lowering your body temperature.

He felt himself start to lose consciousness, as his body slowly shut down from the cold.

Suddenly, he saw a glow from his body as the snow around him melted. He got the strength to stand up, and his body was acting on its own. He put his hand up into the air and felt a word pop into his mind, seemingly out of nowhere. WIth no other options, he did what felt right, and thought to himself the word “creedos.”

The snow slowly melted away as he walked along the ice. Light shines down from above, like sunlight cracking through a sea of clouds. It was warm, not like the feeling he had got earlier, but a calmer, more pleasant heat.

“James” Emma's voice rang out as she ran towards him. “What happened to you?”

“Im fine, Emma. I just ran into Dommy and we had a little skirmish.” James said as his body started to glow again.

Emma backed up in surprise as the glow that James was somehow unconsciously emitting. “You got your power didnt you.”

      “How could you tell?”

Emma smiled. “Because the same thing happened to me earlier today. Same with Xerksize PhD and and…” Emma’s complexion changed as she continued in a monotone voice “and Lee.”

“What happened to Lee?” James asked, worry on his face.

“She ‘s dead. She was choked to death with her message Bible.”

“Dead. Wait, if I was with Dommy, who did it?” It hit James hard. This was the first friend that had died here, unlike the students who he had barely known.

“Who do you think” came an extremely monotone voice behind James

James turned to see John Paul walking towards them, ignoring the weather like normal, but James noticed something different about him. John Paul usually walked with an air of confidence, like he was the strongest in the room. He was slouched over, with tears in his eyes. He was crying, or had been and we were just seeing the tail end of it. His clothes were also disheveled, as he had changed in between our magic lesson and now, wearing the shirt he had on when I met him, with the words serial experiments lain on it, as some sort of logo.

“It was the boss of Dommy, St. Nicolas.”

“Wait, you're saying that it was freaking Santa Claus?” James asked.

“Yes. It makes sense. I mean, he had to kill off a main character soon or the book wouldn't work as well.”

“What book are you talking about. I swear you never shut up about this book thing. Is it a metaphor or what?” Emma asked John Paul, looking annoyed.

John Paul shrugged his shoulders. “Who knows. Anyway, you got your catholic power. It's called plot armor.”

Emma smacked her head “plot armor, really?”

James thought to himself for a second. “What the heck is plot armor?” He muttered to himself. “John Paul, isn't that like when the world of books or movies bends to make a main character win or something like that?”

“Correct again. With your position here, that power makes sense, especially with you being you. Anyway, try to use magic now.”

“It's worth a shot.” James focused on his hand again, putting all his energy in it. He felt a rush he hadn't before. “Aposs!”

Light went from his hand, almost like a flashlight with how it shot in the air in front of him.

“What the heck?” He jumped back, and the energy got disrupted, making the light disappear.

“That's catholic powers right there you know. The best example i’ve seen” Said a laughing John Paul.

“It was the same for me. It's crazy is it not? We are able to use magic, real magic!” said Emma.

“So now that we got magic, what do we do now?” James looked at John Paul to answer.

“It's simple. You all go out and fight Dommy.”

“Us, what about you?” Emma shouted in annoyance, looking like she thought something was up.

“I will get him to the building. Besides, it serves for good training for you guys, and you know you need it.” John Paul said, and disappeared into thin air, having teleported away to who knows where.

“Well let's head back, hold on to me,” said Emma as she grabbed James’s wrist and jumped.

Her jump skyrocketed them into the sky, one hundred meters in the air.

James struggled to speak over the raging wind.  "my gosh, we are high.”

“I know right! Were even higher than Flare visually is” she screamed back.

      “Whose Flare?”

“A student who used to go here…” Emma frowned “why can I remember that, but not... “ She muttered to herself. She turned back to James. “ He really liked certain green plants; like really liked them. His dad, Mr. Barnies kicked him out of the school when it was found out he was trying to set up a straight pride parade here on the north pole. ” Emma frowned at herself again. “But that makes no sense, it's almost like…”

       “Emma, you ok?” James asked

Emma snapped back to reality. “Yeah I'm fine. Just figured something out.

“Wait, it's just clicked in my head. Mr. Barneis has a son?”

“I know. I couldn't believe it either. Look.” Emma responded.

James looked at the ground, which was slowly getting closer as they started falling. He closed his eyes and braced himself, but to his surprise, they hit softly on the ground.

“There you are'' John Paul, who appeared in thin air in front of them. “Just in time for the 69th page as well! (Christan filter note, This is no longer the 69th page.)”

Emma looked annoyed at John Paul. “For the last time, what is a page?

John Paul looked exasperated. “For the last time, as you said, it's where we are in the book.”

      “What book?”

      “This book.”

      “Ok, but what page?”

“This page, like I just told you.”

Emma looked like she wanted to slam her face into a brick wall. She looked at John Paul. and then looked like she had just realized something, and stayed quiet.

“Hey, hey, let's just calm down here.” James jumped in front of Emma. “You said you unlocked your powers, and you did that jump thing. What is your power anyway?” James asked, trying to change the topic.

“Chaos theory. I can change units in the math equation. For example for that crazy jump we just did, I changed the acceleration in f=ma, to make the force on the ground greater, allowing the super jump.”

“That's sick, a bit more useful than mine as well.” James said.

“It's a protestant power, so that's not that's surprising.” John Paul interjected. “A cultist's beliefs are powerful, just look at the southern baptists.”

“Haha, very funny,” Emma said, in a dry voice, while staring at John Paul unflinchingly.

“I agree. I am very funny.” John Paul responded, sounding completely unfazed by Emma's retort.

“So what do we do now, how do we fight Dommy?” James muttered to himself.

“That's an easy question to answer. You guys all have powers now. Xerksize PhD and Jimmy unlocked theirs, so you all can defeat one joker fanboy without too many problems I think.” John Paul laughed again as he walked inside the building.

“Welp, I don't think there is much else to do but follow him I guess” Emma said, walking inside.

James shrugged his shoulders. “It can't get much worse, can it,” He thought as he followed Emma inside.
