Chapter 4:

Into The Wild pt-2

New World, Old Responsibilities

An antelope that looked orange and had branches on its head instead of horns. The envelop drinks water from the river silently.

“Right,” Tori murmured as he was holding a rope made of vines. He slightly pulled down the rope, checking if it was tight or loose.

The antelope raises its head, seeking any danger around, then moves right and scratches its torso with the beak.

“Now!” Tori loses the rope from his hands, and as a result, the boulder connected to the branch with another rope falls and swings towards the antelope.

The boulder swung fastly towards the antelope. It assesses the moving threat and dodges in an instant, then runs.

“Dammit, as expected,” Tori grabs the spear and starts running towards the creature, “time for Plan B.”

Tori, putting some strength into it, throws the spear towards the antelope. The creature again sensed the threat and dodged it by changing its direction towards and started running for his life. But as soon as he ran a few steps, the earth beneath him drifted, and he fell into the hole.

Tori finally stops, catching some breath, and says, “Plan B succeeded. Finally, I did it.”

Tori walks towards the hole. He saw the antelope struggling to free itself as his body was pierced by multiple wooden spikes, which were inside the hole. Tori looks at the antelope's eyes, which were still fighting for its life.

“After my nine attempts to hunt you, you survived every trap I threw at you. Now, you finally fall into my trap.” Tori points the spear towards the antelope's neck, “I did not intend to put you in this pain and struggle.”

Tori stabs the neck, resulting in the creature's death. Tori looks at the corpse, joining hands and closing his eyes, praying, “I kill you for my hunger and survival. I beg for forgiveness.”

“Hah, finally,” Tori drops exhausted, “it took me six days to kill this deer monster.”

Tori looks at the antelope corpse again. “Now I have to get this out of the hole. Ahh, I am exhausted."

The night falls, Tori brings food out of the hole, which is now roasting in the fire. Tori grabs a sharp rock and makes a stroke on the tree branch, making it 4 completed bundles of five strokes. “It's been 20 days in the forest.”

“Now it's time to check the system.” Tori looks below the day count and sees several marked completed quests. And below it is written:

[hunt the deer monster]

Tori marks the quest as done with the rock. “You level up,” he said to himself.

“Yay, I reached [level-5],” Tori wrote below the completed quest.

“My spear-using skills have quite improved, and I have been training with wooden swords for quite a few days,” he tells himself.

“It's a nice improvement, right? Though it would be better if I had a real sword, as this self-made sword looks more like a log than a sword, haha.”

"Can't believe I fought with Commander Vice with this stick and couldn't make a single hit." Tori looks at the roughly carved wooden sword.

“Anyway, time to eat,” Tori started eating the roasted meat. “Wow, it's so good!” he exclaimed, “whoever said that hard work makes food delicious couldn't be more wrong!”

Tori finished his meal and took a bath in the river, saying, “Hygiene is a part of survival too.” His body got so various wounds like scratches, bites, and a rash all over. Tori cleans all of it with water, “ouch, it stinks like hell. If only I had some potion to heal from fatigue and pain.”

Tori then lies on a pile of grass, which is comfortable rather than sleeping on hard ground. ‘Can’t believe I killed that deer monster,’ Tori thought, ‘I used all my survival trap knowledge on it.’

‘You know, it's boring here, surviving all by myself.’

‘But, the MC needs to go on a solo training arc,’ Tori nods.

‘But it's taking forever, even if only 20 days have gone by. Ahh, if only I could see a pretty girl in the forest..’

‘Wouldn't that be creepy?’ Tori’s mind thought about Natalie, and soon the scene played in his mind, when she got tortured by the king. He remembers her eyes in tears begging to let her go, but the king beat her over and over until she got passed out.

“I wonder if she is okay?” Tori asked himself, but he did not know the answer.

“Anyway, time to sleep,” Tori yawned.

The sun rose at the top. Tori packed his things, raised his self-made wooden sword, “Time to get out of the forest.”

“But where should I go?” Tori looks around, “Maybe I should follow the river.”

Tori walks by the river, looking around, and sees new creatures and weird fruits on the tree. Tori collected some fruit in case they are not poisonous.

Tori looks at some duck-type monsters swimming in the group. Their beak was big and yellow, their eyes blue, and their wings black. Tori looks at it and thinks, “I wonder if there is a dokeball to catch this dokemon type monster.”

“Then I would become a dokemon master.” Tori makes the pose while walking. “It's strange that so far, I have found none threatening monsters. But I should be glad”

“Wow, this is a surprise.” On his journey, Tori discovers a waterfall going down. The current is not that strong, but also not that calm. He looks down to see if he finds anything interesting. He squints his eyes around the trees and sees something moving behind the bush.

A black boar with horns appears out of the bush, running. But he got hit by multiple small darts while escaping. It walked a few steps until it fell.

‘Darts!?’ Tori thought, ‘Does that mean there are humans here? '

Tori observed from the top, awaiting the hunters to reveal themselves. The figures appeared; they were green, skinny hands and legs with long, pointy ears and a huge, hanging.

“Wait, those are…” Tori widened his eyes, “goblins!?”

Five goblins gather around their hunted prey, and they tie their prey with the huge stick and start carrying it around.

‘What should I do? From what I heard in isekai stories, goblins are cunning creatures.' Tori scratches his head, “Maybe following is a good option. I can test my sword skill.”

Tori started secretly following the goblin group. ‘But how will I fight these goblins with a mere wooden sword?’ Tori wondered.

‘Hmm, I got a knife, a spear, and this sword. That should do the job.

Tori followed the goblins for a mile until they stopped. All four goblins carrying the boar got exhausted, while the goblin, who seemed to be their leader, blabbered at them. Of course, Tori cannot understand what they are saying.

The goblin then quits. He then grabs a goblin and throws him on the ground with a huge leather sack, acting like he has ordered something. The poor goblin looks at his leader a few times before he disappears into the forest.

The goblin walks a small distance till it reaches a pond. He sits and puts the sack into the pond to fill the water. Tori looks at the goblin behind the trees. “This might be my chance,” Tori murmured.

After the sack got full, the goblin tied the knob of the sack. Something rolled towards him, which first made the goblin jump. It was a fruit. The goblin cautiously goes towards the fruit, sniffing and examining the danger. Seeing no threat, he took a bite, and his face went bright like the fruit was delicious. He ate the fruit in a flash.

The goblin then notices another fruit at a distance, and with little thought, he goes towards that fruit. Tori sneaks from behind and raises the spear. ‘Now,’ he throws the spear.

The goblin notices the spear and dodges it. But the spear passed through his right shoulder, his right hand covered in blood. And without wasting time, the goblin runs to save his life.

Tori, with little thinking, chases him with the wooden sword. With the skinny legs, the goblin ran faster, and it was difficult for Tori to catch up. But the goblin started getting slower and slower because of the recent wound in his right shoulder.

"Tighten my grip, one strike with full force," Tori, seeing this as a golden opportunity. Tori uses all his energy on his right leg to dash and, with the full swing of the wooden sword, slash the goblin.

The sword hit the goblin in his right torso, throwing him off to the right and hitting the tree. Tori falls to his knees to catch his breath.

“OINK OINK OINK!” the goblin screams out, asking for help. “He's too loud,” Tori rose, intending to finish him. But suddenly something came at him and missed him by a few feet.

“Darts!” Tori looked, “That mea-”

A goblin jumped out into sight with a wooden axe, aiming straight at Tori. Tori dodges it quickly, and the shower of darts comes. Tori dodges it with close calls, hitting behind the tree.

“Now what should I do? I'm trapped!"

Tori wrapped his head, seeking an exit, but he got little time as the axe goblin charged at him again. Tori defends himself with the wooden sword. He looks straight in the goblin's eyes.

'Calm down. First, I need to get rid of this goblin somehow.' Tori applies his strength to push the goblin back and quickly grabs something before the axe goblin attacks.

Tori’s wooden sword clashed with the axe three times; each blow was heavy as the goblin looked much bigger than a normal goblin. With the fourth clash, Tori quickly stabs him with the dart he picked earlier. In a few seconds, the goblin falls.

“One down, one injured, so now two goblins left who are throwing darts and their chief,” Tori thought when he heard a horn.

"What the?"

The loud noise of the horn echoed. Tori peeks and found that the leader goblin was blowing the horn made of bone. Tori looked at the leader as he smirked at him. After the silence, a large noise of ‘OINK’ sounds came from a distance, and he finally understood what the leader of the goblins did.

“This is bad. The whole army is approaching. I gotta run!” Tori started running. The shower of darts is falling on him.

'can't run straight!' Tori runs in a zigzag formation to defend himself as the most darts hit on trees. He runs and runs until his legs quit and he falls down.

“I guess they are not following.” Tori looks behind with heavy breath. “It's good that none of the darts hit me. Haha, I improved...?”

The trees started moving, and Tori looked up and saw that everything he saw was moving a little. Then he notices a dart has stabbed his lower left leg.

“ShiT,” Tori started losing his consciousness as the world around him started to move. The ‘oink’ sound of the goblin echoed.

‘I GOTta Hide Myself’ Tori moves with the bad rhythm of a drunkard, taking the support of trees. But every step is hard to take as he loses control of his body. Soon, his sight goes all gibberish, meaning he did not know where he was going.

‘I can't die like this,’ Tori thought, carrying his entire body on will. He does not know what is above him; the only thing he wants is to run in the opposite direction from the goblin growls.

Tori walks and walks, even if he bumps into a tree or trips. For him, the only thing necessary is to 'not die'. In his constant fighting for survival, he steps on edge, causing him to lose his balance, making Tori fall from the cliff.
