Chapter 5:

Into The Wild [pt-3 end]

New World, Old Responsibilities

“Wake up! Big brother”

Tori wakes up and sees his little sister, Miyo. “eh? I wanna sleep,” Tori went back to slumber.

Miyo got angry and clenched her fist. “Ouch! I woke up! STOOP!!,” Tori screams.

At the dinner table, Tori was sitting with swollen cheeks, while Miyo, sitting in front, was reading some manga.

“Here,” Mina put a rice bowl on Tori’s side, “that looks painful, should I put some medicine on it?”

“Please do. You are the only one who understands your big bro” tori compliments while taking a mouthful of rice. “Unlike some demon who beats around people in their sleep,” Tori tones in sarcasm, giving side eye to Miyo.

“Oh my, you want another wake-up call, huh?” Miyo glares with a smile, cracking his fist.

“Now, you two. No fighting while eating. Now apologize to each other,” Mina scolded both of them gently.

“Duh, sorry,” they both spoke at the same time.

“Now, thank you for the meal,” Mina said, as her voice sounded heavier.

Tori looks at Mina in confusion and sees that Mina has turned into a bear.

“What the!?” Tori jumped from his seat.

“Why are you screaming like that? It's annoying,” Mino said, which also looked like a bear.

“WHAT KIND OF PRANK IS THIS!?” Tori shouts at them.

Both bears look at each other and then focus on Tori. The mina bear said, “What are you talking about? We are having dinner, which is you.”

Both bears went straight towards Tori, who tried to escape while screaming, but got captured. The bears got on top of him. “Please. Let me go,” Tori begs, but the bears could not understand and started drawing closer with their spiky teeth.

“NO.. NO.. AHHHH, Tori wakes from the dream. Tori covered in sweat, “So that was just a dream, Haha.” Tori laughed at the stupid dream. That is when something licks his face.

“HAH,” Tori jumped, crawling away from the creature. Tori looked around to find any weapons and saw that it was behind the monster's back.

“This is bad, really bad,” Tori murmured.

Tori took a full look at the monster; it was a white bear with red eyes, and it was bigger than Tori. The bear walks towards Tori, which puts him on guard. But, instead of attacking, the bear heads to Tori's waist like a pet.

Tori looks at the bear, then tries to pinch his cheek to see if he is dreaming. “Ouch,” he was not dreaming. He tries to pet the bear's head, which the bear seems to enjoy.

“Aren't you the good boy!” Tori said while petting the fluffy beast. The bear then licked Tori's face, “Wait. Stop, it tickles.” Tori started laughing.

“Wait, how did I get here!?” Tori stands and analyzes his surroundings, “Didn't I get chased by a goblin?”

Tori grabs his spear and sword, which had fallen near him. The white bear keeps following Tori. ‘Yeah... so I fell.’ Tori looked up and found his bag hanging on the branch of a tree. But the tree was very long. The white bear also looked up.

“How did I even survive falling from that height, with no injuries?” Tori looks at his body and finds lots of cuts and splinters, “That's the answer, dammit.”

“Ouch, it hurts,” Tori screamed while removing splinters from his right leg,” ouch, it stinks.”

While removing splinters, he discovered a white ribbon on his left wrist. “That's strange,” Tori analyzes the white ribbon on his wrist, “I don't remember wearing this.”

“Does that mean someone saved me? But who, Tori tries to think, but the white bear interrupts by licking his face again.

“Forget about the mystery savior, what should I do with this bear?” Tori looks at the white bear who was scratching his ears," It's strange to find a friendly bear in this forest."

“You know, I wanna try something.” Tori first looks around, then gets closer to the bear and wraps his hands around it, hugging it tightly. Tori missed that warmth for the days, being alone with no one to interact with but himself. The bear looked cluelessly at Tori.

After the hug, Tori got up with all enthusiasm and said, “From now on, you are my first dokemon.”

Tori climbs the tree to get his bag, but his body stinks from several wounds. “Now let's move further, my friend,” he said to Bear while walking.

***

Tori walks with the white bear in the forest. Fortunately, he found a river that was very close. The first thing he does is strip down and fall into the river. The water was cold and the wound stinks.

After the cleanup, Tori continues his journey. His body aches like stabbing pins every time he walks. The bear followed him, and they stopped when they spotted a creature. It looked like the same boar-like creature the goblins hunted, but it was smaller. The boar growls when he sees Tori and the bear.

“The time has now come. Kuma, I chose you! Tori makes the pose, ordering the white bear to go forward. The white bear walks forward.

‘Why am I acting like a little kid? I guess that's what I get from being alone. But, it really feels amazing, Tori thought, while striking another pose for his first attack.

“Kuma, quick att-” Tori got interrupted by a slight shaking of the ground with the sounds of footsteps, “earthquakes!? What kind of monster is that?”

The ground shakes more heavily as something big is approaching. Trees falls at a far distance. The boar sensed the danger and fled. Kuma looks in the direction from where the voices are coming. It howls and starts walking in that direction.

“Wait, Kuma, where are you going?” Tori runs towards him, tries to stop him, but Kuma is too strong to be restrained. He dragged Tori with him, “Kuma, stop or we both will die.”

Kuma finally stops. Seeing that Tori finally sighed in relief, he went in front of the white bear and investigated his eyes, “Don't run off into danger. Now hurry, we gotta go. The huge monster is nea-”

Tori sees a huge shadow casting all around him, realizing that something is behind him. He adjusts his neck, scared.

“Why can't I catch a break in this damn world!” Tori said it was his worst nightmare, standing in front of him. A giant 30 feet, razor-sharp claws, fierce red eyes that looked straight at Tori's soul, and it was none other than a big white bear.

Kuma, who was behind Tori, runs towards the giant bear. It started with caresses and licking Kuma. “S-so that is your mother, Kuma. Good thing, I-I should go now, Tori murmured while slowly taking back steps to flee. But the huge growl noise came behind with the air flowing like a storm.

Tori looked back with tears of fear in his eyes, “CURSE THIS PLACE!!”

Tori was running as the giant bear furiously chased him from behind. The bear hits Tori with his big claw, and he dodges it by jumping. He rolled over by jumping, but he continued running.

“I gotta hide myself or I will be dead meat!” Tori screams

The bear swung both his claws at the trees near him, throwing the tree towards Tori. Tori steps right, left, he crouches and stops when the trunk falls exactly in front of him. He looked behind, only to see the huge nightmare coming towards him. He flees again.

“BUT HOW AM I GONNA DO THAT!?”

Before Tori could react, the bear hit the claw at another tree near Tori. The bear attacked the tree trunk towards Tori.

‘Why is everything moving so slowly?’ Tori thought as he slowly turned his head to the right. He can see the tree coming towards him, and he sees the huge furry hands of the bear behind the trunk. But Tori’s body does not have superhuman-level reflexes. Thus, he can only see his death coming towards him.

The trunk hits Tori, and the impact is severe enough to fly him a few meters and roll over the ground.

“I…. am still alive”, Tori did not feel pain as much as he should have because of adrenaline pumping in his body. But he cannot move his right shoulder and also cannot breathe. His can’t feel his legs, and near him was the giant bear, dripping its drool all over the ground.

‘Why…? Why is death coming so slowly and painfully? Tori thought as he witnessed the attack coming at him from the bear. “I…. Don't wa…na die,” he murmured, and as he did, the light illuminated with the sound of lightning. He saw that the bear had turned black, releasing smoke from its body as it fell.

Tori discovers someone near the bear. His eyes all blurred out, but he could see someone in a robe. The person glanced at Tori and started walking away from the scene.

“W.. ait” Tori tries to get up but falls, “Wait!”

‘Get up! Body!’ he said, trying to get up with everything he had. He started taking tiny steps, thinking, ‘just a little more’ over and over.

The tiny steps soon turn into a light jog, and soon he catches up with the person in the robe. “Wait.. h..elp me. I will do anything,” Tori says as he closes the distance.

The person in robe spins his head out of shock, as he sees the tori covered in blood coming closer.

“KYAA,” the person screamed, zapping Tori with electricity.

‘What?’ Tori thought before he passed out.
