Chapter 1:
Return Of A Lightning God
The vast battlefield lay in silence as the the great pantheon of gods stood above one of theirs in a triumphant victory.
The lightning god.
Why had it all come down to this? Greed and envy.
The other five gods had no reason other than envying his immense power and the greed of wanting to control what he had.
"You have gone too far with this," Raijin, the Lightning god muttered, his miserable form on the ground. "You all dare to stab me in the back?"
"Oh, please," Sasayaki mused, her voice light. "It is only a deed that must be done, mm? You shall be put to rest soon, Raijin."
Raijin gritted, turning Fūjin, the storm god. One he considered to be a brother. "Even you choose to turn your back on me?"
Fūjin's expression didn't change. Still blank. But then his eyes furrowed and what he said next shook something in Raijin's very being. "Just die already."
Tetsu, the god of forge walked forward. "Any last words?"
Raijin grinned, a bitter attempt to suppress what he was feeling deep down. "Make sure to kill me for good and pray I never return. Because I will not spare a single on of—"
Tetsu interrupted as several chunks of metal erupted from the ground, stabbing Raijin in different spots. "We have heard enough."
Just to make sure he would never return, Sasayaki made an incantation and put a curse on him, then she trapped him in a pocket dimension and sent him into the deepest parts of earth where no one would find him, in a place now called Japan.
It has been about a thousand years since that happened and the world, never knowing what happened in the realm of gods, moved on.
Technology had arrived and soon it flourished and the world was at highly technological era.
Life should be easy with all the improvements and evolution, right?
Yeah, it had other plans for Kotetsu Akane.
Tokyo.
Subway station.
"Wait wait wait!" Akane yelled, trying to button up his suit as the train started to leave.
He ran quickly to catch up, but it was too late. The train was already too fast. So, he had to go back out and get a taxi which was more expensive.
Minutes later, he arrived at the company where he worked.
Tokyo - Akihabara.
Kenai Productions.
A renowned programming and animation company that was beautiful on the outside, but a hell for workers on the inside.
Akane rushed in after paying the taxi driver. He continuously tapped on the elevator to quickly open as he got in, heading for the fifth floor where he worked. "Come on, come on," he muttered, tapping his feet.
The elevator stopped and the doors opened. He quickly ran out, heading for his table. "Morning Yuki," he greeted, passing a blonde girl.
"She's already at your table," Yuki replied without turning, her gaze fixed on her system.
Akane skidded to a halt as he saw a woman in a crisp suit standing by his table. He slowly turned and was about to walk away when a loud female voice yelled out. "Akane!"
"Y-yes ma'am," Akane quickly turned as the lady's eyes bored into him.
She was the CEO, and she usually did personal attendance checks on Wednesdays. And as usual, Akane was always coming in late.
"Do you want your bed or your job?" She snapped, crossing her arms.
'To be honest, I'd prefer my bed, but…' he thought, then he cleared his throat and spoke aloud. "My job, ma'am. I'm sorry, I just missed the tr—"
"I don't want to hear it. Get back to work," she muttered, leaving the office.
Akane sighed and drew his chair, flopping onto it with a long exhausted sigh.
"You okay, man?" One of the guys beside him, Rin, asked.
"Do I, in the slightest, look okay to you?" Akane groaned. "You're just trying to mess with me again."
His friend laughed and returned to his computer.
They day went on as it always did. Long, tiring and frustrating hours of typing.
As a programmer, this was his field, but it was getting too much, because he usually left the office by 1 am and was required to be in the office the next day by 9 am.
It was a really overwhelming task and the only reason he was here was because of his debts and the fact that he had no other alternatives.
This particular evening, the boss told Akane and Yuki to deliver a package to Ome and could go home early from there.
Akane couldn't have wished for anything better.
"I wonder why she wants both of us to go," Yuki muttered, starting her bike.
"Who knows? Who cares? I'm just happy I get to go home and sleep early. It's already 6 pm so, we'll run it quickly and then go home." Akane replied.
Yuki shrugged. "Hop on."
"Shouldn't I drive? I mean, I'm the guy, right?" Akane complained, feeling embarrassed that he was going to be behind a woman on a bike. "Just me trying to be a gentleman—"
"Just shut up and get on." Yuki handed him a helmet.
Reluctantly, Akane ended up in the back, his expression blank beneath the helmet.
They eventually reached their destination and got down. The small box package was delivered and they were now ready leave.
But then, people started screaming as some criminals were being chased by the police, exchanging bullets.
One of the bullets went wide and landed in no place, other than Akane's chest. He looked down at it before falling to the ground.
Yuki screamed. Panicked and confused, she was frozen in place, stuck between helping him and the flying bullets. She finally decided to get on her bike and zoom off.
Akane laid on the ground, his blood pooling beneath him. He watched the sky as it went dark "well… sound sleep, eh?" He managed to muttered before his vision started to dim.
As the blood went further up the road, it reached a spot where it steamed and couldn't pass.
The concrete suddenly felt cold as his blood sizzled , forming a small circular pattern. Then a large circle formed beneath him, with a very strange symbol, not that he could see it, but he felt the air grow colder.
Akane's eyes finally closed as he decided to give up.
From a clear sky, a sickening lightning bolt struck his chest and his eyes shut open with a deep blue glow.
