Chapter 2:
Return Of A Lightning God
As the lightning struck, Akane's eyes shut open with an unnatural blue glow before dimming back to the normal black.
His black hair started to turn a light blue from his scalp before the hair was completely transformed.
"Whoa!" Akane jolted up. "What just happened?" He turned around and then looked at his chest as he felt something moving where the bullet entered.
Slowly, the bullet emerged from the hole and fell to the ground, the wound sealing shut.
Akane's eyes were wide with disbelief as he stared. "Ehh? Eeeehhhh?"
He quickly stood up and look at his bloodied clothes. What he needed to do right now was return home first before trying to understand whatever this was. Who knows when another bullet will make him the lucky winner?
Akane managed to get a ride back home, from a trader who was coincidentally familiar with him and was going that way.
Though trader asked why he was covered in blood, but Akane just lied that there was a pool of blood from someone who got injured and he slipped, falling on it.
The trader was definitely not believing that, but he knew more than to push. Akane though somewhat confused when the man complimented his new look.
The door to Akane's apartment creaked open as he walked in, kicking off his shoes and taking them off.
"Man, I finally get a chance to rest and this happens. How was this even possible?" He muttered, placing a hand on his chest.
He walked to his room and took off his clothes, tossing them in the trash.
He then went to the bathroom. Walking to the mirror, Akane decided to check his chest but he was startled after realizing his hair was a different color. "Yoo, what the hell happened to my hair?"
Akane stood away from the mirror like it was an enemy about to attack, before slowly walking back, examining the change.
Not only was it a different color, it was also longer.
"Where is this place?" A sudden voice came startling Akane once more, this time he wasn't so lucky as he slipped and hit the bathroom floor hard.
Akane quickly got up, his head turning in all directions, trying to find where the voice came from. "Wh-what do you want? Who a-are you? Show yourself!"
"Foolish mortal, I am in your head."
"Huh?" Akane's brows furrowed, though his heart was still beating fast.
"I cannot explain why you are still alive," said the voice.
"Neither can I," Akane replied cautiously.
"No, you were supposed to be gone completely. I already took your body after you died but your conscience just… came back."
Akane was now more curious than scared. "Yes, I did feel my life slipping away, but I just woke up again. Wait a minute, what are you? Or who? Whichever."
"I am Raijin, the Supreme God of Lightning."
Akane blinked. "Wait what? How did you get into my body?"
"It is because…" the voice passed. "Because…"
"Because?" Akane prompted.
"I… cannot remember."
"What? Never knew a god forgets too," Akane muttered.
"I did not forget. I just do not remember."
"What's the difference?" Akane frowned. "Also, can you… stop sounding like someone from, I don't know, maybe the middle ages?"
"Are you, a mere mortal, commanding me?"
"Oh, sorry about that, but for real," Akane cleared his throat. "It sounds weird."
There was an extended silence, before Akane started to see flashes of his memory, slowly, then the speed started to increase. "What's happening?"
"I am reading your mind and learning of this new era the world has gotten to." The voice answered.
"That's invading my priv—" Akane started but his body seized and he fell to the ground.
"Now I am letting my powers into this body."
A sharp pain struck Akane's entire being and his back arched up off the ground, the veins in his head popping up. After a muffled groan, he shouted as the pain started to get unbearable.
At this moment, the only one thing he wished for was to have died when the bullet got him earlier.
His life was already a jumbled mess he couldn't quite handle and now a 'god' is now a part of him and he's bearing so much pain just because he didn't die?
Everything faded in his vision and he appeared in a dark valley-like space.
Above was what he could only explain to be the mother of all storms. It was so monstrous and unexplainable, with giant lightning bolts flying across.
Akane stood in the empty space as the heavy wind hit him, forcing him to squint.
He didn't know why, but something was pushing him to walk forward.
A mega tornado formed, twirling with deeply dark clouds.
"Where is this place? I was in the bathroom a moment ago." Akane managed to mutter.
A sudden, humongous bolt of lightning hit the tornado, the bolt unending as the tornado grew even more with bright blue glow beneath the dark clouds.
"Walk into it," the voice came in, making Akane flinch.
"What?" Akane yelled.
"You heard me. Walk into it. Do not fear, you will not fly away."
"I also won't get electrocuted, right?"
Silence.
"Right?" Akane repeated.
"Well, good luck," Raijin said.
Akane somehow couldn't stop himself as he drew closer to the monstrous tornado.
Just as Raijin said, no matter how great the wind, it didn't take him off the ground.
As Akane got close enough, the bottom of the tornado opened up like a door, waiting for him to walk through.
Akane gulped as his legs took him inside.
The lightning bolt then disappeared and he walked to the center.
"Now accept the power," Raijin's voice came in.
"Wait, what if I don't want this? I never asked for any of it, really. I know you saved my life… well, by mistake according to you, but… I just want to sleep, man. I know work's been hard but I really don't know what I'm signing up for with this." Akane explained, his heart pounding.
There was a brief silence that stretched before Raijin spoke. "Well… too late."
Akane lifted off the ground, levitating. "Wait wait wait! Wait! Please!" he shouted as he continued to go higher, reaching the top of the tornado.
At the top, he could hear the sound of lightning crackling, preparing for a strike.
"Oh, come on Lightning God. We can do this another way, right?"
No response.
Akane tried struggling, but it was as if his body was bo longer his.
Another bolt similar to the first struck, this time on Akane.
"AAAAAAARRGGHHHHHH!" Akane screamed, his voice straining. The pain was unexplainable and too overwhelming, but for some reason, his eyes remained wide open as the bolt went through him.
After a few more seconds, the bolt stopped and he could feel himself falling back down as the tornado disappeared and the cloud started to clear.
His eyes started to close and he let them.
Akane's eyes snapped open he jolted up, realizing he was lying on the floor of the bathroom, one of his legs on the toilet while left hand was soaked in a bucket of water.
He exhaled deeply and laid back down, 'Phew. It was a dream, it was a crazy dream,' Akane thought. "Maybe overworking has got me good, eh?"
Akane closed his eyes.
"What are you talking about?" Raijin's voice came in.
