Chapter 10:
Marchen Madness
Adams POV
“Damn, damn, damn,” I couldn’t help out but curse after getting reprimanded by the chief. Out of anger I even broke the small porcelain cup that I had on my office. The chief has long gone senile. The evidence is right in front of us, yet he believes that Gerrik’s death was a struggle for power in the army. I too believed the same thing but new evidence pulls into an absolutely different path.
What’s more he even decided to pull us out of the entire case since it could be out of Interpol’s jurisdiction. Well in normal cases it would have been right but according to the evidences this does fall under our jurisdiction.
“You know you should call it quits sir,” Rickter advices me.
“You know very well that I can’t,” I reproach him for his advice.
“The entire evidence pulls off that the assassin’s goal is probably on a personal level or probably to cause an in-conflict in the army while staying away from the Interpol’s eyes.”
“But those are mere hypothesis sir; I mean what sort of conspiracy would have a retired old officer be killed.”
I smile at his simplicity. He sure had a lot to learn if he wanted to survive as a detective for the Interpol. No, that is an understatement he had a lot to learn if he had to survive out in this world.
“The very fact that an old retired officer was killed smells of a conspiracy. He must have been connected to something or someone which got him killed.”
“Anyways did you get the data weather he was in contact with someone from the army recently?”
“You know sir, you sure do know how to be slave-driver,” he complains since working on this case won’t give any money or promotion.
“But there is a certain Rodriguez, who he talked to a week before his death. This Rodriguez however is now on a secret mission from the emperor so I couldn’t contact him.”
“There might be a way to contact him,” I say which absolutely surprises him.
“How? He shouldn’t be carrying a phone or devices other than a satellite phone on him while on duty.”
“I can find out where he is; I know someone who would kill to make me owe a favor to him.”
“I still do not get how it is going to help us find out who killed Gerrik?” Rickter asks me.
“We are going to first go down to the root of this conspiracy. Then we can find out the reason behind his assassination. This could cut down the number of suspects and perhaps even reveal our main perpetrator.”
Rickter looks at me with adoration clear on his eyes.
“I guess that is the very reason, you are the detective and I am just your assistant,” He jokes as we both laugh.
Lear POV
“It seems that someone is going against their chief and trying to find clue for Gerrik’s case,”
“Oh so soon,” Old Swind comments, “although I knew that someone would have started investigating your targets, but I never thought that it would be so soon.”
“It doesn’t matter; he is on the wrong route anyway,”
“How do you know that?”
“Let’s just say that a little birdie told me. I planted many seeds in the past; one of them is bearing fruit it seems.” I reply
Well according to my ‘birdie’ the man who had decided to pick up the case irrespective of any profit is a man whose wits could hold a candle to mine. My ‘birdie’ went as far as telling me to never underestimate him and even praised him highly.
Well then detective Adams Carlington, I wonder if you will show me your darkest secrets after all everyone has a secret or two.
