Chapter 4:

New Life

The Mystic Eye of Daiki

Birds chirped outside as Daiki woke up from sleep. He stretched his hands out and looked at his messy room.
“Ugh, I have to clean this up before mom comes in.”

He jumped off the bed and hurriedly cleaned his room. As he did, a book about magic fell off his desk.

The book fell open to a particular page ‘High-Tier magic’, Daiki's gaze gleamed at it but he couldn't fathom the spells that were in it.

“These are some hardcore magic abilities… Will I be able to achieve this too?”

A knock erupted on the door. Each knock sounded like it could break the door off its hinges. “Daiki! Are you done? We have to get ready for your new school today.”

“In five minutes mom!” Daiki immediately closed the spell book and got ready for school.

After getting ready, he headed downstairs to receive his school uniform.

Nanako was holding the uniform in her hand but covered it with a black bag. “Now honey, I know I kept your powers from you in the past and also this new school too but they are all for good reasons.”

Daiki's heart raced faster than ever before. This time it wasn't from fear nor excitement, it was mainly from curiosity.

Nanako's eyes shone as she removed the black bag covering the uniform and presented it to him.

A full white uniform with a black tie and white shoes. The crest on the chest pocket of the blazer was that of a wand.

“Congratulations Daiki, you have been admitted to Arakawa magic academy… The biggest magic academy in all of Japan.”

Daiki took a few steps back, he was well aware of the school. The school was well-known for having graduates who ended up becoming powerful mages, leading magical guilds and looting powerful labyrinths.

Arakawa magic academy also had some bad rumors among duds in the society. The top scholars in the school were normally elitists who looked down on non magic users and people lower than them in their magic circles.

Just a few days ago Daiki had a run in with one of the Arakawa school members, the boy who called him a dud when he slightly brushed his shoulder.

Daiki's face turned beet red with rage, veins bulging at his temples. He couldn't believe he would be attending the same school with entitled snobs like him.

Nanako saw the anger in her son's eyes and stepped forward to console him. “It's alright Daiki, I know how you must feel. Going to a school like Arakawa is tough and believe me, I have heard the rumors about them but don't worry not everybody there is bad

Look at me, when I was your age I was a student there too… Same as your father.”

“Father?” Daiki was shocked that his parents were both at an elite high school but they didn't raise him in that way.

“Yes he was there, that's where I met him and together we found nice people there who shared the same mindset as us. So I know you will be in good hands.” Nanako's warm embrace cooled Daiki's nerves.

A few minutes later he changed into his new uniform and it felt uncanny. “Hmm, my former uniform was better, but this will fit as time goes on, I guess.”

“Yay! That's the spirit.” Nanako shouted in glee. She carefully tucked his amulet behind the shirt of his uniform.

“Remember don't let anybody know of that amulet, I will tell you all about it soon.”

Daiki nodded and assured her that no one would find out.

They both headed out and Nanako took him to school. On the drive to school Daiki looked out from the window and noticed how everything was changing.

‘Is this really my new life now? Just a few days ago I was in my normal school at Setagaya, playing with my friends, talking to Ren and not bothering about assignments but after my birthday.

My revelation of my magic power, I am now going to attend a new magic school in Shibuya, ‘Arakawa Magic School’. Just how fast life can change.’
They arrived at the school and Nanako told Daiki to go in and reach the principal's office first.

Daiki went in and the security man opened the huge magical gate. As he entered the sight of the cherry blossoms filled him with awe.

“Woah… This place is beautiful.”
The students were all walking and talking happily with each other, some were using magic to water plants, to float while some were using it to detect bugs in the grass.

“This is my new life?”

A bright smile popped across Daiki's face as he happily took steps forward to the principal's office.

After a few minutes he was accompanied there by a staff member of the school. He thanked them and knocked on the office door.

Immediately the principal allowed him to come in. Daiki entered the office and it looked far bigger inside than it appeared from the outside.

The office was a large dining hall with lit candles round the corners and the principal was sitting at the far end of the table.

“You may take a seat, Daiki Keita.” Principal Futaba said in a sharp, feminine tone.

As Daiki took his seat a sharp red magical mana erupted beside him and it was none other than his mother, Nanako Miran.

“Hello Hello Futaba.”

Futaba's eyes widened as sweat trickled down her temple. “Nanako what are you doing here?”

“Your defense magic has really become tougher last time we met, it seems you’ve gotten stronger.”

Nanako's cunning grin put Futaba on her toes.

Futaba banged the table and stood up. “I asked a question but I have not heard an answer. Why are you here!”

Nanako chuckled and her red mana gleamed sharply from her eyes. “Why else? I came as a dutiful mother to enroll my precious son for school, what’s the problem with that?”

“You're what!” Futaba’s mouth widened.
