Chapter 3:
The Mystic Eye of Daiki
“What just happened? Did I do this, no I couldn't.”
He got off the man and took his phone from the back pocket. The screen was cracked, leading to him stomping the ground in anger.“Shit! Mom won't buy me a new one or… I could say this guy broke it, yes that's what I will use.”
He looked at the time and saw that three minutes remained till it was his birthday. “Tch what a birthday this would be someone's blood on my hands. I have to get this off before someone sees me, what a weird day.”As Daiki was about to leave, heavy breathing began to echo around the construction site. He turned back and saw the assassin forcing himself up, blood dripping down his body.
“Wh-where d-do y-you think you are go-going. My mission ain't over yet.”Daiki tried to run but a shot hit his leg, sending him crashing to the hard ground. He turned back and saw the half dead assassin slowly gaining on him.
He attempted to run but his amulet started shining brightly and the mana began flowing through Daiki's eyes. The assassin jumped straight at Daiki pointing his fingers at him attempting a shot but a sudden red spark appeared out of nowhere.
The red spark shot the assassin down. Daiki's amulet stopped shining. From the darkness heels clicked against broken stones.“Thank goodness I found you.” The warm voice broke through to Daiki as he instantly knew who was talking to him.
“Happy birthday my sweet boy.” Daiki's mother, the strongest mage in all of Japan-Nanako Miran.“Mom!” He ran into her warm embrace holding her tightly. “I thought i would be dead but then i fell asleep then woke up with this man beaten, i wonder what could that be.”
Nanako caressed her son's hair while looking at the assassin's motionless body. She gently pushed her son to the side and walked up to the man.She pressed her high heels against his head, twisting and turning. “This insect tried to kill my son?... My baby boy! Tch. I’d kill you myself, but I'll call Rikers to take you in for questioning.”
‘Haha that's my overprotective mom right there.’ Daiki said to himself as he would look for a rock to hide under if anybody was around.Nanako turned back and her ferocious eyes turned meek. She went to hug her son tightly once more. “Let's go home, you remember I had something to tell you.”
She called in Rikers to pick him up and then took her son home.As they entered the house, Daiki saw that everything was fixed and the door was in the right place. “Magic fix up, cool.”
“Ahhhh you said I'm cool, that's my cute boy.” She was hugging him once more but he got away from her clutches this time.“Mom, what did you want to talk to me about?” Daiki asked with curiosity in his voice.
Nanako sat on the sofa in the sitting room and gestured for her son to do the same. The atmosphere in the room became tense. She stared into the eyes of Daiki as if she was looking into his soul. “Hmm how can i say this… What happened between you and that assassin, it was all you.”
Daiki was taken aback, he couldn't fathom what his mother said. “What? A non magic user beat a magic user? Mom, are you joking with me?”Nanako looked at the amulet round his chest as she sighed. “Honey, you have always had magic. It was just sealed away by your… Father.”
After what she said Daiki's eyes widened and he rested his head back on the sofa, not knowing what to say or do at that moment.“Daiki, you know how the world views magic users and non magic users, your father never wanted you to be pompous from birth, so he wanted you to live a normal life and talk to non magic users.
So that way you can bridge the gap between those two societies and understand that non magic users are as important as the magic users, i was skeptical at first. But it was all for a good reason. Before he passed on we both agreed that it was when you turn sixteen that I would open your mana for you. There was also a hidden instruction from that amulet.
It was given orders to protect you whenever you get in trouble and I'm not around you for twenty minutes. So you can say it saved the day.”All that information was hard for Daiki to process, he wasn't able to talk for a few minutes before he spoke. “So I have never been a dud?”
“No son.”“Then I suffered all those times when I interacted with magic users for nothing. Huh? Great work.”
Somberness crept in Nanako's eyes “I'm sorry for what you went through, the magic society isn't entirely all great either, but i know it wasn't right to take part of you away. In the long run I hope you thank me.”Daiki looked away, unable to keep eye contact with his mother. Nanako sighed and got up from the sofa.
Daiki's mana was flowing through him, yellowish-blue magical mana filled the room.
“Woah, so I have this much mana.”Daiki raised the protection amulet in front of her. “So is this useful anymore?”
“Yes, yes it is, the story behind that amulet is for another day. I have something important to do.”She was walking up the stairs as Daiki asked “What important thing do you have to do now?”
“I have to talk to some school administrators. You are enrolling into a new magical school.” Nanako's bright smile engulfed the room.
