Chapter 09 — Overkill Strategy

Summoned To Another World

Jay's eyes gleamed with dangerous excitement as he scanned the notice board.

「So, an F-Ranked job not even D-Ranks can't handle? That gets my blood boiling!」

Liani looked genuinely concerned, leaning over the counter.

「Jay, didn't you hear me?」

Iris chuckled, recognizing the familiar surge of aggression in him.

「Oh, he did. Now he wants to fight them even more.」

「Can I get details 'bout them?」 Jay demanded.

「So you really intend to fight them... ...Sighs... Well, they are three meters long, they're very fast, and they are carnivores.」

「...Chuckles... Oh, now I wanna fight them more! So where can I find them?」

「North-east outside the town, in the Gold Fields.」

「Thanks.」

「Take care of him, Iris.」

「Don't worry, I will.」

A Few Moments Later, In The Gold Fields...

Jay surveyed the barren, golden landscape, the heat shimmering off the dry earth.

「It's said these rabbits live in packs of twenty-five.」

「Before I get to that, why did that Liani girl call you by your first name before you became Jay?」 Iris pressed, a hint of steel in her tone.

「Well, I told her to, since she wasn't like the other noble girls.」

「...A little jealous... Well, just remember you're a grown man, so don't turn into a pedo.」

「...Teasing... Oh, are you jealous?」

「...Pouts... No.」

Iris immediately focused, noticing a disturbance on the ground.

「I found a barrow hole.」

「I picked up fourteen more. So, what do we do?」 Jay asked, immediately halting his magic.

「Well, we make ice spikes on the other fourteen holes and leave this one open, 'cos we'll combine our wind spells.」

「...Stops using search... They haven't noticed us yet. So the plan is to let them get impaled by the ice spikes and the wind cut them and break some bones while they're flying around in there?」

「Yes, that's it.」

「Okay, but it's kinda overkill, though.」

Iris shrugged, her eyes hard.

「Well, we do have to make a living.」

「I guess you're right.」

10 Minutes Later...

「I filled the holes like you said, and went the extra mile of putting some along the walls.」 Jay confirmed, wiping dirt from his hands.

「Your use of magic is scary, you know that.」

「Yes, perfectly well. ...Then they heard running underground...」

「Seems like they noticed us.」

「Then let's do this.」

Jay and Iris looked at each other, their minds synced for the combined magical attack.

「~Hurricane Gust~」

The resulting blast of synchronized Wind Magic was a concentrated, inescapable funnel. It rushed into the open hole, creating a violent, spinning vortex underground. The trapped were-rabbits, propelled by the colossal force, were sent slamming into the strategically placed ice spikes and the razor-sharp currents of wind, killing all of them instantly.

Jay surveyed the devastating result.

「Damn, girl! You got a lot of power, you know that.」

「...Panting... Yes, I do.」

【Hmm... Seems like she doesn't always use her magic... That could prove a weakness in the future.】

「I'll go get them. ...Goes into the hole...」

「OK, I'll just rest here. ...Falls on her back...」

10 Minutes Later...

Jay emerged, dusting himself off.

「Turns out, today is our lucky day. I found thirty down there.」

「So where are they?」

「Dimensional Storage... You okay?」

「Yah, c'mon let's go. ...Stands up...」
