Chapter 1:

The Dream of a Hero

The Master of Heroes

In the dream, my name is Buddhist Kemprai, and I am becoming the Master of Heroes. I win the Contest of Heroes. Everyone congratulates me, and I keep saying, “Thank you! Thank you!”

But suddenly the alarm clock rings. My dream breaks, and I wake up.

Buddhist: Ohhh God… that was a dream? I really thought I had become the Master of Heroes.
Oh, it’s already 8 AM! I have class at 9 AM. I need to call Sumit so we can go to college together.

I call Sumit, and he picks up.

Buddhist: Hello, Sumit, are you ready to go to college?

Sumit: Yeah… wait, I’m having breakfast. Just a second.

Buddhist: Okay.

My mom calls me for breakfast. I go to the bathroom to freshen up. After a few minutes I go to the dining room, and I see it’s already 8:30 AM. I rush back to my room to get ready. Sumit calls again, and I pick up.

Sumit: Buddhist… are you ready?

Buddhist: Yes.

Sumit: Okay, I’m coming.

I go outside to wait for him. Oh, I forgot to introduce Sumit. He is Sumit Phura, my childhood friend. He has the superpower of running at lightning speed and great strength.
Even though I don’t have any superpowers, I still dream of becoming the Master of Heroes.

Outside, I meet Sumit.

Buddhist: Ohh nice suit! Your superhero costume is dark blue… awesome.

Sumit: But your superhero costume… it looks like a war suit made of heavy metal. Don’t you feel heavy?

Buddhist: No… you know me. I always wear heavy metal suits. I use technology to solve problems. And you have superpowers too.

Sumit: Okay, let’s race. Whoever reaches the college first wins.

Buddhist: Okay, done.

Sumit uses his lightning speed power and runs toward the college. I’m shocked by how fast he moves. I activate my suit’s energy power, switch on flying mode, and boost to top speed.

Buddhist: Oh my God! This is too fast… flying like the wind… ohhhh!!

Sumit reaches the college first and waits for me, but I crash onto the college ground.

Sumit: Bro… are you okay?

Buddhist: Yeah, I’m okay.

Sumit: Okay, then I’m going to class.

Buddhist: Okay…

Then my three female friends arrive.

Alir: Buddhist, are you alright?

This is Alir Teronpi, my good (and fat) friend. I forgot to mention—she always gets angry at me, haha. She eats a lot, and her superpower is gravity control. She can manipulate weight, pull objects, or change gravity.

Serdihun Beybi: Buddhist… did you get hurt?

This is Serdihun Beybi, a very thin girl… and she also gets angry at me often, haha. She eats a lot too—her stomach never fills, she eats like an animal, hehe. Her superpower is energy projection—she can fire beams of heat, light, plasma, or force.

Serdihun Rongchehonpi: Buddhist… do you need help?

This is the second Serdihun. She’s kind and never gets angry at me, but she always hits me on the back. When I asked her why, she said she likes doing it… I think she’s crazy, hehe. Her superpower is super strength—she can lift huge objects and smash walls.

So all my female friends have different superpowers.

This is how my morning begins.
