Chapter 10:
Pro Rain Shelterist: Rain Shelter Ranking
Japanese Edition: プロ雨宿リストの雨宿りランキング (Pro-Amayadorist no Amayadori Ranking)
English Edition: Pro Rain Shelterist: Rain Shelter Ranking
The 247th Hyper-Imagination Contest: Rain-Sheltering
Thank you very much for reading this work.
Since the theme was “rain sheltering,” I wondered what to write—and ended up with the “Pro Rain Shelterist.”
I haven’t researched it in detail, but I don’t think there is anyone who actually makes a living by taking shelter from the rain as a profession.
He doesn’t make a living from it either, so I suppose he’s merely “self-proclaimed.”
This work was presented in the format of a ranking of the rain-sheltering experiences that left the strongest impression on him.
Because of that, there are parts where the timeline jumps back and forth.
I would like to explain with some spoilers included.
▪️ The drama filming happening at a small bank
This was the actual scene of a robbery incident.
Because he himself is a ghost, he literally passed straight through the automatic door.
The person who stood up was a ghost bearing a grudge. He could see it only because he is a ghost.
▪️ Taking shelter from the rain with a cat at the bus stop
This is from when he was still human.
It has nothing to do with anything, but I personally like Maine Coons.
▪️ Taking shelter beneath a tree while mountain climbing
This is from the time when he became a ghost.
He lost his life to a lightning strike, and it took some time before he regained his awareness.
His belongings having vanished, the tree being withered, and so on—those were due to the passage of time.
Also, he is unaware that he is a ghost.
▪️ The Ghost Café
This is from when he visited while still alive.
At the time, he was terrified at witnessing real ghosts, but looking back on it now—from the perspective of a ghost himself—he realizes there were quite a few cute girls.
As for why the place was completely abandoned, I wrote about that in the EXTRA and in “Two in the Abandoned House” Epi.13, so if you’re interested, please give those a read as well.
▪️ The cave behind the waterfall that he saw with his girlfriend
This is an episode with her from after he had become a ghost.
She, quite literally, achieved Jōbutsu.
Finally, about the story as a whole.
In terms of the timeline, this takes place in the future relative to the current latest episode (Episode 13).
The setting is the abandoned house, and the listener is Sayuri.
His true nature is that of a ghost who is often rained on.
Whenever he is under a roof or in a rain-sheltering situation, the rain stops.
This is not actual rain, but more like an ability he possesses—it falls only on him, and it does not wet anything else.
Of course, there are times when he is drenched by real rain and takes shelter from it as well.
As for me personally, I do not dislike taking shelter from the rain.
And I have one dream—a dream no one agrees with at all.
That is—on a typhoon day, to look out from the Skytree observatory.
What I want to see is not the scenery itself, but the state of being beaten by heavy rain where nothing is visible.
Needless to say, on days with such weather, the observatory closes temporarily.
So, to make that dream come true, I would have to become the owner of a tower with an observation deck.
Now then, please also enjoy “Two in the Abandoned House,” the stage for this story.
A gentle and airy tale of a cute floating ghost and an eccentric human.
I hope we can meet again somewhere.
