The story begins with a boy named Adam, a 15-year-old orphan who lives with a man named Alexander, in his early thirties, a well-known writer and a professional in martial arts and fencing. They live in a luxurious house in the heart of a modern neighborhood. Adam’s biggest challenge was making friends due to his shy nature, yet he managed to form a strong friendship with Joseph, becoming childhood best friends—so close that one could think they were brothers. Days passed, and now they were high school students about to check the class lists.
On the morning of the awaited day, Adam woke up at 6:50 a.m., still tired from the previous night’s activities with Alexander. After a few moments, he got out of bed, went to the bathroom to wash up, and then headed downstairs. He was surprised to find Alexander absent, as he was not supposed to have any plans. Adam muttered to himself, “Good grief, where has this fool gone? I was going to ask him to drive us to the institute.” While pondering what to prepare, he found a note that read:
"Dear Adam, I’ll be back late, as I have some work to take care of. I bought you a new gaming console, and if you want, you can invite your friends to play. But remember, entering my room is strictly forbidden."
Shocked, Adam rushed to the living room and found the console waiting to be used. Astonishment took over his expression, and he asked himself, “How did this happen? We didn’t leave the house yesterday, and we stayed up until dawn. Now it’s seven o’clock—when did he buy and set up this console?”
Adam returned to the kitchen and began preparing breakfast. He was used to being alone, as Alexander often had work that required him to travel, leaving Adam behind or taking him along. Once Adam finished preparing the breakfast, which looked like a piece of art, he stared at it for a moment before deciding to take a picture with his phone. Suddenly, he remembered his friend Joseph and thought, “I wish my friend were here to enjoy this omelet.” An idea struck him, and he decided to make a sandwich for his friend.
Afterward, he changed his clothes, spritzed on some perfume, and gazed at himself in the mirror. Strange feelings swept over him. Sighing, he said, “I wish my mom were here to see me—or even my brother.” Looking at the clock, he saw it was 7:35 a.m., so he put on his headphones, played some music, and set off.
While lost in the music, he accidentally bumped into a girl, causing her phone to fall. Thanks to his quick reflexes, he caught it before it hit the ground. Looking up to apologize, he saw her face and felt his heart race at her stunning beauty, as if an angel had descended from the heavens. Her features were delicate, her hair long and brown, and her eyes enchanting. Before he could be fully captivated, he handed her the phone, smiled brightly, and said apologetically, “I’m sorry, miss, I didn’t mean to bump into you.” She replied kindly, “No need to apologize, I didn’t see you because I forgot my glasses.”
They each continued on their way, but Adam couldn’t stop thinking about the girl, feeling strange emotions stir within him. He wondered aloud, “What’s happening to me? What is this feeling? Maybe it’s because of the extra spicy pepper.”
A few minutes later, Adam arrived at his friend’s house and knocked on the door, checking the time—it was 7:47 a.m. Joseph’s mother greeted him with her usual smile and invited him inside to wait for her son. When Adam saw Joseph eating sweet pancakes and their eyes met, Joseph cheerfully said, “Hello, my friend and soulmate!”—then began coughing from choking on the pancakes. Adam quickly handed him some water, and Joseph drank, while Adam laughed, saying, “Brother, seriously, don’t talk with your mouth full. Do you want your career to end by choking?”
While the two boys laughed, Joseph’s mother watched them with happiness, grateful that her son had a kind friend like Adam. Glancing at the clock, she clapped her hands and said, “Come on, boys, hurry up, you’ll be late.” Joseph rushed to put on his shoes, while Adam spoke briefly with Joseph’s mother. She looked at him and said, “Alright, alright, you two can spend the day together.”
The boys left the house, chatting about many topics to make the walk feel shorter. Joseph suddenly brought up a subject: “Tell me, Adam, has that devilish girl called you again?” Adam was surprised and asked, “Who? Who are you talking about?” Joseph tried to jog his memory: “I mean Stephanie, the one who liked you but you rejected her.” As Adam dug into his memory, he recalled her and said, “Ah, I remember her. She stopped talking to me and started ignoring me. Let her go to hell; she’s the one who broke my heart first.”
They arrived at the institute, and Adam spotted the girl he had seen earlier that morning. Those feelings returned, and he kept looking at her. Joseph noticed Adam’s distraction and tried to get his attention. Adam handed him the sandwich and said, “Here, and be quiet.” Joseph took the sandwich, and the two boys entered the high school.
