Chapter 12:

Day 12: The Moment Our Paths Crossed

Deranged Martyrs

There was one hour left before dismissal.

Sally sent Kam a message:

Sally:
“Should we escape?”

Kam:
“Do you think they’ll notice?”

Sally:
“I don’t think so.
I’ll wait for you in the women’s bathroom.”

In the bathroom, Sally explained the plan:

“You go out first. Then me.
But before that, we check if there’s anyone,” she said.

They would leave through the parking lot.

They walked quickly, hiding behind the parked cars.

The guard wasn’t there, so they took the chance to climb the fence.

Sally helped Kam up. Then she climbed it herself without difficulty.

They ran in case the guard came back.

They ran for a good stretch and stopped to catch their breath.

“And now what do we do?” Sally asked.

“I thought you had something planned,” Kam replied.

“Well, no,” Sally said, sticking out her tongue and bonking her own head with her fist.

“Let’s go to the mall.”

“Okay.”

They spent the afternoon laughing, buying clothes, figures, and plushies.

At 6 p.m. they left the mall. Sally walked with Kam to get a taxi.

They were talking, carefree, until they ran into their bullies.

The leader spoke first:

“We heard you’re transferring. And that you’re taking our toy with you,” she said, referring to Sally.

They beat both of them.

Fear overtook Sally. She didn’t know what to do.

She breathed. She calmed down. And her repressed anger exploded.

She grabbed one of the girls by the hair and slammed her against the ground.

She was knocked out.

But a kick hit Sally straight in the back of her neck.

Sally fell instantly.

Kam screamed. She was crying from the pain while trying to wake Sally up, but she wouldn’t respond.

She begged for help, desperate, but no one came close.

Until a boy with light brown hair and turquoise eyes heard the screams and ran toward them.

The scene triggered a memory in him.

A bitter memory.

Something inside him cracked.

The bullies saw him.

“Get lost. This isn’t your problem.”

“If you do something weird, you’ll end up worse than them.”

One of the bullies’ boyfriends pulled out a knife.

The boy didn’t flinch. He was just crying.

“I won’t let… anyone suffer again,” he said.

The guy with the knife pointed it at him.

“I told you not to get involved.”

The boy wasn’t listening.

He only repeated:

“I won’t let anyone suffer again.”
“I won’t let anyone suffer again.”
“I won’t let anyone suffer again.”

Then he threw a punch.

The blow smashed the attacker’s nose.

Everyone froze.

The boy’s speed and strength were almost inhuman.

Kam saw something strange:

Marks of energy.

Similar to Sally’s… but different.

For a second, the boy’s energy manifested—but held back.

The bullies and their boyfriends rushed at him.

The boy took the hits without showing pain.

He was only thinking about protecting them.

The fight was intense, but quick.

Kam, crying, thanked him.

“There’s nothing to thank,” he replied.

He apologized for not arriving in time.

Then he ran off, frustrated.

Sally opened her eyes just a little.

She saw him walk away.

She lifted her hand, as if trying to reach him.

“Thank you… my hero,” she whispered.
