Chapter 39: The Dark side of the animes

Somewhere else inside the lab…

Luar said, “Uhhh, when are we going to leave this discarded place? We’ve been here forever.”

Ofurd clicked his fingers, and a lot of big spider-like robots appeared. “We did everything we need. Our boss took so many jobs… we got a report about some sound here.”

Asual said, “We can’t stay like this. We must move forward.”

Luar said, “I wish Mateo was still here… but why would Finley have made a name for ourselves in the real world?”

The Examiner thought to himself, I can see movement in time, but it’s slower than I think. You know what? I’ll just go to the Anims. But I have to design one that can use a lot of cheat codes. I could log out anytime, but of course I don’t have the time. Still… I do have the tools.

One of his staff members approached. “Sir, I made something.”

The Examiner said, “Calm down. What is it?”

Rovan (#924) said, “Sir, I made this thing that takes you to Anims. It’s connected, and the best part is, you log out as well.”

The Examiner thought, Oh, I was thinking about something like this. Let me see.

Rovan chuckled to himself, Hahaha… after this old man is gone, I will be controlling this lab.

The Examiner said, “You know, Rovan, you’ve been the most useless person ever. But I know this thing doesn’t even work to begin with. You can go now.”

Rovan said, “Okay, I will level,” then he closed the door.

The Examiner grabbed the headset, maybe made by Rovan, and connected it with the Anims. He clicked and wrote down: See deep Aninstion, 3 warriors and 3 gods. Then he unplugged the headset from Anims and put it on his head.

He thought to himself, It might not work… uhhh, I just want to live a few hundred more years.

Suddenly, a hole opened beneath him, and he was dropped inside. He said, “What happened to me?” as he looked around.

He saw a lot of soft things and, near his haggis, many fruits. A blue screen appeared in front of his face and said, “Where am I?”

He heard someone running. Looking closer, he saw a little girl and thought, I’m going to save her… she’ll think of me as her hero.

A shadow passed the girl’s left side. She got cut in half.

The Examiner saw outside and realized he was inside a big ship. He thought, Please don’t be a pirate ship.

He saw someone behind him. The Examiner got scared, it was the same girl who had just been killed.

A pirate said, “Throw her in the sea.” They took her split body and threw it overboard.

The Examiner said, “What was that all about?”

The girl said, “I don’t know how I got here. I was in my room and put on some type of glasses, and now I’m here.”

The Examiner said, “What is your name?”

The girl said, “Well, I’m Avery Peach. But maybe I should ask someone else’s name first, you should give me yours first.”

The Examiner said, “My name is Ervon Deobl.”

Avery said, “You can call me Avery. That’s my real name.”

Ervon thought, You shouldn’t be giving your real name to random people, but… at least we’ll be playing together for a few thousand years.

Ervon said, “I have bad news for you.”

Avery said, “What do you mean by that?”

Ervon thought, I should try to log out, and he went to the logout screen. He got happy to see the logout button, but when he touched it, it didn’t work.

He thought, Oh, I remember, I am wearing the headset. I am not the Anims. And this girl is here as well… how did she even get in here? This is supposed to be a private game, not public.

Ervon said, “I have to tell you a few things. First, we can’t log out of here for 1,150 years.”

Avery said, “What are you saying? Humans can’t live that long.”

Ervon said, “You have a point. But the truth is, time moves very slowly here. This game is made so that no matter who enters, they will never be able to leave.”

Avery said, “Okay… so what if someone inside the Anims gets killed in real life? How will that work?”

Ervon said, “That’s right. But even if your full body is turned to dust by a nuke, and there’s nothing left of you, not the headset, not the Anims, you will still be here.”

Avery said, “Can you tell me in short form?”

Ervon said, “Okay. You can’t die. You’ve been trapped here from the start. There is no escape for anyone.”

Avery said, “You just told me two different things.”

Ervon said, “So you did understand me, you damned liar.”

A pirate said, “What are you guys talking about?”
