Chapter 9: The Supernatural Being of Hyakumonogatari

Summer Hyakumonogatari

“—And that’s how it was! It was suuuper fun!”

As Yuka wrapped it up with a beaming smile, the comment section began to stir.

“Mind explaining which part was fun?”
“Do you even realize you’re telling a paranormal tale?”

Ignoring the bewildered voices, Yuka’s eyes sparkled with excitement.

“That hallucination was so real and so graphic—there’s no way you get to experience something like that often! It was seriously the best!”

She pumped her fist in triumph, finishing her sentence with excited energy.

Beside her, Sayuri quietly pointed it out.
“Yuka-chan, you need to blow out the candle.”

“Whoops, totally forgot!”
Yuka took a deep breath and blew it out in one strong puff.
“Okaay! Supernatural being of the Hyakumonogatari, come on ooout!”

The candle’s flame went out, and the surroundings were instantly swallowed by darkness.
They waited for a while, but nothing happened.

When she happened to glance down at the tablet, one comment caught her eye.

“Wasn’t that supernatural being the one Yuka-chan stopped earlier?”

“Eh!? That was it!? At least say, ‘I came from the Hyakumonogatari’! I would’ve let it go first!”

She hurriedly switched on the lantern and looked around over and over, scanning the area.

“Sorryyy! Come baaack!”

But there was no reply. Only the quiet night stretched out around her.

“I mean, isn’t it kind of unfair to show up at the ninety-ninth tale? There was just one more left, you know?”

At that moment, a new comment rolled in.

“Didn’t the count go up by two because Sayuri-chan told two stories and blew out two candles?”

“Eeeh!? That doesn’t count! Don’t add it to the tallyyy!”
Puffing out her lips in a sulky pout, she let out a big sigh and looked into the camera.

“…Well, whatever. Today was fun too. Thanks, everyone!”
She gave a bright little smile and waved.

“After this, Sayuri-chan and I are gonna do some Spoo Talk and then go to sleep! Okay, bye-bye!”

The two of them sat side by side, smiling and waving as they reached for the end-stream button—when suddenly, the comment section began to stir.

“What’s Spoo Talk?”
“Don’t drop mysterious words like that.”

Yuka froze for a moment, then let out a soft chuckle.

Spoo Talk just means spooky talk! See yaaa!”
