Chapter 5:
Confusion and Confession
Three weeks passed, and somehow my life had begun to feel… stable. Strange, considering I was living with two former cats and one famous model.
Yuki, Kaoe, and Toie still had their cat ears and tails, which only made them stand out more. And yes somehow, that only made them even more attractive.
For the past two days, Yuki and Kaoe had been working part-time at the library. Every night at dinner, they would excitedly talk about their day,
smiling and laughing as if they had discovered a brand-new world. Watching them like that made me feel relieved. Maybe things really were starting to settle down.
The next day passed like any other at school. But curiosity kept gnawing at me. I wanted to see with my own eyes
how they were doing at work. So after classes ended, I decided to walk to the library.
On the way, a familiar voice stopped me.“Kai? Going to the library?”
It was Ayumi. She smiled softly as she walked up beside me. I nodded casually and told her I was just going to check on something.
She hesitated for a second before saying, “I actually have some studying to do there too. Mind if I join you?”
I agreed without much thought. Strangely, I no longer felt nervous walking with a girl. Maybe living with
Yuki, Kaoe, and Toie had completely broken my sense of normality. As we walked, I felt a strange presence
watching us for a brief moment. I turned back, but no one was there. For some reason, I immediately thought of Mina.
When we finally reached the library, I stopped at the entrance in surprise. Yuki and Kaoe were working seriously,
moving through the aisles with surprising professionalism. For a moment, I almost felt proud.
Then I noticed something else. There were more boys than usual in the library. And almost all of them were staring.
My heart sank.
Yuki and Kaoe soon hurried toward me with bright smiles. Both of them were dressed in maid outfits straight
out of an anime, frilly aprons swaying with every step, their tails flicking behind them.
“Hey, Master!” they called out in perfect sync. The entire library fell silent. Every gaze snapped toward me
at once. My throat went dry. Dozens of eyes sharpened with visible hostility. I could almost hear their thoughts screaming, “It should’ve been me.”
“H-Hey…” I muttered weakly, trying to act normal while my soul slowly left my body.
Then both Yuki and Kaoe turned their cold, suspicious stares toward the girl standing beside me.
“Who is she?” they asked in unison. Before I could answer, Ayumi tilted her head slightly and gave a polite smile.“Hey.”
That single word only made things worse. Yuki’s arms crossed tightly over her chest, her tail snapping behind her.“…Womanizer,” she muttered.
The word hit harder than a slap. Instantly, the silent rage of every boy in the room aligned perfectly with her judgment.
I could feel their murderous intent drilling into my back.
Sweat rolled down my temple. “I’m not a womanizer!” I protested, but no one listened.
Then I noticed something that made my heart skip for an entirely different reason.
Kaoe’s cheeks were glowing red. Before I could question it, she stepped forward brightly.
“I’m Kaoe,” she said proudly, then pointed at me with a teasing smile.“And this is my womanizer Master, Kai!”
“Hey!!!” It was over. My reputation was shattered beyond repair.
Yuki leaned closer to herself, whispering just loud enough for me to hear,
“First Kaoe… then Toie… and now this girl too…”Ayumi, completely unaware of the chaos she had caused, simply nodded.
“I’ll go study now. See you later, Kai.” She casually walked past us and sat at a nearby table, opening her book as if nothing in the world was wrong.
Now it was just the three of us. Dozens of boys continued to glare at me with burning jealousy.
Yuki stood stiffly at my side, clearly unhappy. And Kaoe… she kept sneaking glances toward Ayumi, her
blush deepening every time their eyes almost met. That’s when it hit me. She wasn’t jealous. She was… interested.
And as I watched Kaoe’s tail sway nervously while she stared at Ayumi, a terrifying realization settled into my heart. This time…I wasn’t the one being loved.
