Chapter 4:

Chapter 4: "Pleasant Surprise"

Confusion and Confession

I was still half-asleep when I heard Yuki muttering from the living room. Perched on her couch, she crossed her arms and scowled, her ears twitching in irritation.

“Ahhh… so I’m not his first cat,” she grumbled to herself. “And now he has that ugly brown cat, Kaoe… and that… that Toie.”

Her blue eyes flashed with jealousy, though I knew she didn’t really mean it. Her words were sharp because she was angry,

not because she actually thought it. I figured her mood was off, so maybe a little weekend outing could cheer her up.

Meanwhile, on afternoon Mina strolled into my apartment like she owned the place. She glanced around casually,

her smirk growing as she spotted Kaoe sprawled lazily on the couch, tail flicking in amusement.

“Oh hey, Kaoe. All alone, huh?” she said teasingly. Kaoe ignored her, giving only a side glance.

Mina pretended to look offended. “How rude. Tsk. But you know… I’ve got an idea.”

She crouched down to Kaoe’s level, voice playful. “What if I turned you into a human too?”

Kaoe’s ears perked immediately. She padded over to Mina, rubbing her head against her leg affectionately, purring softly.

“Well, well,” Mina said, grinning, “someone’s interested.”

The creak of the front door pulled my attention. Footsteps echoed from the hallway, and I called out groggily, “Mina? The door’s open…”

I froze when I saw her shoes by the door. I walked in, holding a bag, Yuki trailing closely behind.

“Hey Mina ” I started, but Mina’s cheerful voice cut me off. “Oh hey, Kai. Look who’s here~”

And there she was. Standing in the living room, a beautiful girl in my oversized hoodie, soft brown hair

falling around her shoulders and sparkling pink eyes fixed on me. She turned, smiled, and said, “Master, you’re back!”

I froze. My mouth went dry, eyes wide. “Kaoe…?!” I finally managed to choke out.

Kaoe giggled softly, twirling a strand of hair with one hand. “Mhm~ In the flesh! Oh, and hi to you too, Yuki.”

Yuki’s jaw dropped. Her eyes widened, ears flattened slightly, and she let out a high-pitched, incredulous, “HUUUUHHHHHHHH?!?!?!”

The apartment was silent for a moment, save for Kaoe’s soft laugh and Yuki’s seething glare.

It was official my life had just gotten a whole lot more complicated.

“Mina… you turned her into a girl too?” I asked, eyes narrowing. She just nodded with a smirk,

muttered “Ok, bye,” and walked out like it was the most casual thing in the world.

“Master, I missed you so much,” Kaoe said, hugging me tightly and giving Yuki a glance that clearly said, he’s mine.

Yuki’s cheeks flushed red, but she managed to hold herself together.

“We’ll spend the whole day together,” Yuki declared proudly. That made Kaoe blush in return.

“Tsk… fine, you win this time,” she muttered, though her smile betrayed her embarrassment.

The next morning, I woke up to find Kaoe sleeping on my chest. “Umm… Kaoe, I can’t really breathe,” I mumbled.

She yawned lazily, stretching her tiny arms. “Good morning, Master,” she said softly.

Then the door slammed open. Yuki stood there, arms crossed, voice sharp.

“May I ask why you two are cuddling early in the morning?” Her irritation was clear but surprisingly, she was controlling herself.

Later that day, after school, I came home worried that both of them might start fighting.

To my surprise, both Kaoe and Yuki were waiting at the door, speaking in perfect sync, “Welcome home, Master!”

It turned out they had become friends. They explained they wanted to work at a library,

both to help me and because they were bored staying at home all day. I agreed,

realizing cats don’t like to stay in one place for too long and their instincts were still very much intact.

For the first time in days, I felt a strange mix of relief and anticipation.

My apartment was no longer just home it was full of life, mischief, and a little chaos. And somehow, I knew this was only the beginning.

To be continued…
