Chapter 1: The Ruins That Choose Me

I Only Wanted to Stand Beside Him, but a Lost Hero Chose Me Instead!

After that, Kamito looked at the Ancient Ruins, and a woman’s voice continued calling him.

“Kamito, come here!”

The voice repeated endlessly, and Kamito immediately followed it without hesitation until he reached its source. There, he saw carvings on the wall—depictions of a past hero facing demons.

“He is Noa, if you want to know.”

The voice belonged to the pink-haired, green-eyed woman dressed like a goddess, making Kamito jump in shock.

“Y-you… the one from yesterday. Are you a ghost?”

The woman smiled, holding back her laughter.

“A ghost? Don’t be ridiculous, I’m still alive, Kamito-kun. Besides, do I look like a ghost?”

Kamito fell silent and began to ask,

“What is this place? Why am I here?”

“This is the final resting place of Noa, the forgotten hero of the past.”

“Noa?”

“He is my master. I swore to protect him until his final breath… even until now.”

“He has already foretold that this event would happen—that you, the reincarnation of Noa himself, would return once more.”

Kamito was stunned, shocked beyond belief.

“W-wait—what did you say? I’m the reincarnation of Noa? Don’t joke around.”

“I am not joking. I’m serious.”

“If I really were a direct descendant of Noa, then why can’t I use any magic?”

“There is a very important reason why Noa sealed his own power.”

Kamito stayed silent, though curiosity stirred within him.

“Remember one thing, Kamito. Noa’s power is extraordinary. If it existed in today’s era, a great calamity would occur.”

“Even so, there is also a major reason why you cannot use magic. Your ordinary life could change completely. Remember—every action you take will always bring great consequences.”

Kamito slowly understood.

“But after witnessing your current determination… I will unlock a portion of your power.”

The goddess placed her hand on Kamito’s right cheek, and suddenly some of his sealed power awakened. Kamito felt scorching heat and pain throughout his body.

“What is this power…?” Kamito groaned in agony.

“You will see. And Ark will watch over your growth.”

“Ark? Who is that?”

“He is your loyal sword. He has been waiting for you for a long time.”

Kamito screamed as a tremendous energy surged through him. His eyes glowed intensely.

“This power… it’s incredible!”

But the goddess disappeared with a smile.

“Wait! I want to ask you one thing—how do I get out of here?”

“You will know, Kamito.”

And the goddess vanished.

Annoyed, Kamito punched the stone beside him—shattering it without realizing. He had obtained a tremendous power.

“Alright… it’s time to train.”

Kamito trained with fierce determination, leaping high in excitement before attempting to jump back into the hole that had swallowed him.

“This time, I will save you, Makoto-san.”

He leaped incredibly high and reached the upper level, finding Makoto unconscious.

“Makoto-san? Are you alright?”

Meanwhile, Hiro continued begging the rescue team to drill deeper to save Kamito and Makoto, but his request was rejected—it was deemed impossible for them to survive.

Suddenly, a loud crash and tremor silenced everyone.

“What was that sound?”

BRAAAK!

Kamito, with his newfound power, punched through the stone, shattering it. Everyone was shocked and overwhelmed with relief—Kamito and Makoto had been saved.

Cheers erupted everywhere.

“Kamito-kun! I can’t believe you’ve become this strong. No wonder you always wanted to enter the Academy!”

Kamito scratched his head in embarrassment while the others celebrated and lifted him into the air joyfully. The goddess appeared again from afar, smiling.

When Kamito returned home, he was immediately hugged by his mother and sister after they heard he and Makoto were trapped in the mine. Kamito had already promised not to tell them about the Ancient Ruins—he didn’t want them to worry even more.

After the incident, Kamito was given a two-week leave. During that time, he trained nonstop until his once-average body became noticeably muscular.

Finally, the entrance exam for the Academy began. Kamito headed to New Tokyo with burning determination.

“Mother, Shion, I’m leaving!”

“Good luck, Kamito-kun! I hope you succeed!”

And with that—while gazing at the morning sky—Kamito set off with full spirit, ready to take the entrance exam for Magical Academy Tokyo.
