Chapter 2: The Exam That Shook the Academy

I Only Wanted to Stand Beside Him, but a Lost Hero Chose Me Instead!

After that, Kamito arrived at the Magical Academy. Everyone looked extremely happy, some even starting new friendships. Deep inside, he wished he could also make a friend—but none approached him.

“There’s no way they want to be friends with a miner like me.” Kamito sighed inwardly.

Suddenly, he was surprised to see a girl walking toward him. She had long red hair, bright blue eyes, and wore the Academy’s Student Council uniform.

“Are you Kamito-kun?”

“Yes, that’s right. What is it?”

“Before anything else, I want to thank you deeply for saving my father.”

“Wait… could you be—?”

“Yes, you’re right. I am Mikoto Hikari, daughter of Makoto.”

“Oh, I see.”

“With all my heart, I pray that you pass the Academy Entrance Exam.”

“Thank you. I’ll do my best.”

After that, Kamito entered and followed all exam procedures. He answered everything correctly on the written test. Then came the magic energy test—something Kamito always failed.

“Alright, Kamito, place your hands on this magic orb and channel your energy into it.”

“Alright.”

Kamito placed both hands on the orb—but nothing happened.

“Once again… I failed.” he muttered helplessly.

“W-wait—what is this power!? Kamito-kun, where did you get this energy!?”

“I don’t know… I just trained.” Kamito replied, still confused.

The magic energy Kamito released shattered the orb. Everyone was shocked—they knew the orb was unbreakable and could withstand any magic.

“Look at him! He broke the orb!”

“Amazing… is he going to be the strongest mage in the first-year class?”

Whispers filled the room, making Kamito panic and feel embarrassed.

“Mother, I want to go home…”

Kamito was declared to have passed this test and moved on to the next one—the offensive magic test.

Everyone proudly showcased their magic, but Kamito remained silent and extremely nervous. His attention was caught by someone casting “<Fire Shooter>.”

“Maybe… I’ll just copy him.”

“Alright, Kamito, it’s your turn.”

Kamito focused on the attack circle.

“Then… <Fire Shooter Bullet>

BOOOM!

Kamito lost control and destroyed the back wall—including the target. Everything turned to ash.

“HEEEEEH!? I LOST CONTROL!”

Everyone stared at him in fear.

“I’m definitely not passing… I destroyed the whole room…” Kamito panicked.

“Kamito-kun?” the teacher called.

“See!? I knew it… I’m not passing…”

“Kamito-kun, you passed. With this, you are officially accepted into the Magical Academy. We will place you in Class B.” the examiner said, astonished.

“ARE YOU SERIOUS!?” Kamito shouted. He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

On his way home, he was full of excitement—until he saw a young boy about to cross the street without noticing a fast-moving truck.

“Kid, watch out!”

With great speed, Kamito saved the boy.

“Whoa! Are you a superhero, big brother?”

“No. But next time, look both ways before crossing, and follow the traffic lights.”

“Okay, Mister Superhero!”

Proudly, Kamito returned home. His mother and Shion celebrated his acceptance into the Magical Academy.

“Congratulations! Let’s eat!” they said happily.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in Tokyo, a woman with snow-white hair, red eyes, and priest-like clothing listened as her female guard whispered something to her.

“Is it true? He has been accepted? In that case, I will welcome him… even if he’s in a different class.”

The white-haired woman was none other than Masahiro Yuki, High-Class Sorcerer and leader of the Japan Branch And also Kamito's childhood friend.
