The First Day (Part 1)

It was seven thirty on the morning of the first day of the new trimester. Ren Sato is from now on a second year high-schooler in the Midoridai High. 
After twenty minutes of cycling his way to school, on a very beautiful sunny April morning, he meets up with his kindergarten and best friend Haruto Kanda. He is also seventeen years old and is the—so to say—polar opposite of Ren. He's funny, engaging and a quipper but never really intrusive. And maybe the fact that they're polar opposites in character, makes them such a good duo.
But while Ren really has only one friend, Haruto has a few more and was relatively popular in his last class he attended with Ren.
"Hey, Ren! On time, as always." Haruto chuckled. "I thought you want to go alone today to prepare yourself for the first day of this trimester" said Haruto with a big smile on his face. He wanted to annoy Ren. 
"No, I never did that before and we always go to school together. Stop reading something into this that isn't there." and Haruto won.
"Why so serious today? Did something happen to you on your way here?"
"No, I just want to get through this day as quickly as possible."
"And why is that? Sounds to me like something did happen to you but you don't want to talk about it."
"As I said Haru,"—Harutos nickname—"there's nothing that happened today, but you know that I don't like hustle and bustle."
"Ah, sorry, I must've forgotten." He didn't forgot but he really liked it to toy a little with Ren. And to be honest, Ren doesn't hate it either.
From this point of time, the way to school proceeded on foot. Haruto didn't have a bike but he also didn't need one because his way to school was only taking him ten minutes, which both Ren and Haruto are taking now. 
To avoid getting bored on the way, they chat about everything that happened in the days before or about the day itself.
And today was no other: "What did you do yesterday?" asked Haruto.
"Nothing much. I watched some anime and than tuned into HikariAis live stream again. She was playing that new game everyone talks about."
"Oh, really? I got that game last week too."
"Right after release?"
"Yes" Haruto said happy. "It was the only copy I got in the Shotengai"—the shopping street of Midoridai. 
"It really is good huh?" asked Ren and Haruto confirmed his assumption.
The two were half-way through their way to the Midoridai High. After they finished their talk about the new video game and the live stream Ren watched, they went along with their chat.
"So Ren, do you think we both will be in the same class as last year again?" asked Haruto.
"What's kind of question is that? How do I know, we will see, but I hope so." answered Ren.
"Ahhh, that's what I wanted to hear from you Ren and nothing more, hahaha. I mean what would you do if I'm not around?"
"You know that words can have a big impact on someone?" retorted Ren. But Haruto didn't really care, as always.
"Yeah, of course but anyways, who do you think we will see again in our class from last year? I hope for Miyu Sasaki. Damn, she is so beautiful"
"Erm, I don't really know what to say. I mean she is beautiful but they all only want something from her because of that. That's sad in my perspective"
"Huh? But that's the point? Or do you prefer our last class president Airi Fujimoto?"
"I don't really know where this conversation is going."
"Come on, you have to have someone you are looking out for."
"No, why should I?"
"You're as lame as always Ren, do you know that?" Haruto said with a grin on his face.
They nearly reached the school entrance when they finished chatting and now had the big campus of the Midoridai High ahead of them. The Midoridai High is a modern and bright high-school. Bright not only because of its future but also because of the white as snow buildings that stand on campus with big glass facades. The Midoridai High is a well renowned school in all corners of Tokyo and is doing everything to keep it that way. That's why the school is so loved and praised by all the parents, who had enrolled their children there. The main school building was shaped like a big U, forming a big central plaza on the campus. And on that plaza had a big crowd of students formed. 
"Very well. The new class lists are hanging out. Let's see in which class we are Ren!" said Haruto running toward the crowd and shouting backwards at Ren. If Ren wanted or not didn't matter now, because he had to go and look anyways.
But he got spared of searching his name and class, because after Ren finally arrived after slowly walking toward the crowd, Haruto came out of it and with a big smile on his face, he patted him on the back and said: "Ren, we are in the same class again."
"Really? I'm relieved. I thought I had to make new friends." replied Ren and it's no exaggeration of him. He doesn't really like social contact. That's why he's mostly inside his room at home and is watching live streams, anime, reading light novels or manga, or plays video games.
"Ahaha, I thought so." Haruto laughed.
"So now I wanna know. Who else is with us in the same class from last year?" asked Ren. The question surprised Haruto because of Ren asking in the first place, when he didn't really want to know it in the first place. 
But Haruto answered: "Well, only we two are on the class list"
"Only we two?!" repeated Ren appalled.
"Well I think that's not really correct. I only flew over the notes for our names and then looked at the class we're in but I think I also saw Airi Fujimoto on that same list too."
"Oh, so she's also in our class?"
"It looks like it but I could be wrong. Anyways, let's get going to our classroom."
"You joker, I don't even know in which classroom we have to go."
"Oh, didn't I tell you? My sincere apologies. We are in the same classroom like last year. Hrmm, now that I look at it, there are far too many coincidences."
"Yeah, but that means we're in the room 1-C again, right? Well, now it's 2-C. So the old chemistry room."
"Ding, ding, ding! One hundred points for you my friend!"
"Now I have to think if you're a joker or a joke."
"Ouch, that something like this comes from your mouth, Ren. Words can have a big impact don't you know?" Ren was countered, with no words left to say.
So both of them went to the classroom 2-C to take part in the attendance from their new class and homeroom teacher Mister Tanaka. The scedule was as always. First the attendance and then after some organizational things and the introduction of yourself—which Ren hated the most—and after the welcome ceremony of the first year, the second year went to the new school year ceremony, which was nothing more than welcoming everyone to the new school year and some organizational things as usual on such occasions.
