Chapter 36:
Dragon's Laud
It's early morning. All my friends and I are standing on a magic square getting ready to teleport to just outside the mansion's southern barrier. The air is thick with fear and anger. Kem nods to each of us before activating the spell and sending us there.
"Let's go take out some guards and free some dragons." Elbereth says from ontop of Dre.
Amaya, Olive and Dre all smile in agreement and take off to the north west.
"Let's get into position." Kem says to the rest of us.
We head a little more to the east to prepare for our fight. Adrenaline is pumping through all of us and it's putting me and the dragons on edge.
"Arata and Leaf, I'm going to start working on making a hole in the barrier so you two can slip in." Kem informs us with his hands up on an invisible wall.
"Just let us know when you get it open." Arata says calmly. He then goes over to Leaf, who is pacing back and forth showing distress. Arata's words are soft and soothing for even us to hear.
"I got it." Kem says with a green like doorway infront of us.
"Alright lets keep some old geezers occupied Leaf." Arata says confidently.
"Right behind you." He replies following Arata.
"Now we wait for Gilton and give the signal that we have engaged in combat." Says Kem. He fiddles with his hands a little before checking over everything he has on him.
"Hey." I say placing my hand on his shoulder breaking his concentration. "You have everything. We will at the very least get your sister out of here."
"Thanks Rage." He smiles back with a weak nervous smile.
I nod back to him. Movement catches my attention and I focus in on a massive black dragon with some dark blue in his scales and mane. His wings are huge even tucked against his large body. Beside the dragon is Gilton, with the hood of his robe down his long black hair flutters in the wind. Anger builds in my gut that it took me this long to get strong enough to take him on.
"Lets go." I growl before charging in.
Kem sends up a green flare that explodes signaling our attack has started. Pearl and Mitus stay just inside Gilton's barrier while Maddie, Sheldon, and Kem follow behind me.
Sheldon squirts some water shots at Tundra cutting small slits in his scales. Maddie joins in by moving the ground to trap his feet but Tundra is in the air now. Maddie takes to the air too while Sheldon takes aim from the ground. Tundra breathes ice everywhere causing even Gilton and us to move.
Gilton tries saying something about us being here but I close the distance to land a fist in his face. He sighs blocking it with a barrier on his hand. Kem casts a spell of slowing on him. Gilton easily neutralizes it though.
"Let's see you block this!" I shout jumping off a rock to give me more height.
Gilton turns to shield my attack while casting a spell that counters Kem's attack from behind.
"You two have grown but not enough." Gilton says with a smile.
A surge of power radiates from Gilton and my instincts tell me to run. Kem shields himself while I try to get some distance but he is too fast. A blast of ice sickles shoots out from around him. Kem's shield shatters causing him to get some cuts. I encased myself in fire so the cuts from the ice are not as bad.
"Maybe you have grown more than I thought." Gilton says with his eyes on me. Then he shouts to Tundra. "Tundra! Ice terrain!"
Tundra bellows before visible cold air slips off his scales. In seconds the garden is crystallized. The place was beautiful before but now it literally sparkles.
I step back in shock and a tree Leaf cuts my cheek. I swear touching my face. "You guys! Don't touch nothing!"
Maddie does her best to keep Tundra occupied so Sheldon doesn't have to move around much. Kem and I try our best to dodge Gilton's ice sickles.
"Kem! I think now's the time!" I shout. Throwing a fire ball at a rose bush he almost collides with. He gains his footing amongst the ashes then looks toward me.
"Ragon! Terrain alter!" Kem shouts.
Without much training of that spell, my body instinctively follows Kem's commands. Heat radiates off of my body melting the frozen foliage around me. I push more power into it and move around the garden wilting everything in my path.
"Trade you." I say tapping Sheldon's back as I jump over her. She falls back to fight Gilton in the wilted garden. She is covered in scratches but no deep wounds.
Tundra shoots out a breath of ice towards me and I counter with my flamethrower move.
"Help." A very very faint voice whispers.
My concentration breaks and I roll out of the way of the attack. I look around for the voices owner but don't see anyone but the ones engaged in battle.
"Focus." Maddie barks at me.
"Right. Sorry." I say before wilting all the garden so Sheldon can come back to fighting Tundra like she wanted.
We continue our fight with everyone getting minor injuries left and right. Then we all stare at each other trying to catch our breaths from the last attack and counter.
"Tired already?" Sonja's familiar voice rings out over the decimated garden.
We look up to see her standing ontop of one of the mansion's towers. She is in the outfit Amaya made her. With a snap of her fingers explosions happen in the distance.
"Looks like you missed a few." She smirks at Gilton.
"Darling! How could you?!" Gilton yells.
Kem takes the opportunity to punch Gilton right across the face. Tundra also takes advantage of the situation. He grabs ahold of Maddie's leg and flings her into the tower Sonja is standing on.
The building starts to crumble. Maddie, Kem and Gilton are screaming for Sonja. My body moves without thinking. So here I am anime style with flames coming out of my feet flying toward Sonja.
You're going to need more power than that if you're going to reach her in time.
Blaze?!
Come on kid!
I feel the heat of stored power surge through me. I'm not sure where it was in my body but there is a lot of it. Sending fire out my hands and more through my feet I'm able to move faster. I reach Sonja in time, cutting off the fire from my hands I catch her like a princess. With a tuck and roll I kick us away from a piece of falling debris before guiding us towards the ground.
I try to nuzzle her cheek but she slaps her hands over my mouth.
"Not happening." Sonja says matter-of-factly.
