Beginnings of a new reign

"Wha bo yuu mmmm?" My mouth muffled by Sonja's hands.

"You ain't kissing me right now!" She says scurrying out of my arms. Then whispers with red cheeks. "Maybe later though."

My heart skips a beat because I was only going to nuzzle her face like I do with the dragons. But a k-k-kiss?

Sonja runs to Maddie, who is standing up shaking the towers debris off of her. Pearl and Mitus are right there too healing Maddie's mangled wing. 

The ground shakes as Tundra starts running towards us. His fangs are bared at the wounded group. I use the last of my energy I have to launch myself to get in-between them. I stand there a little scared that I can't stop this dragon.

Kid this is goodbye. Thanks to that lava bath I was able to stay around longer and store up some magic. Use the last of it to save them. That's my last wish. Take care of them all.

Tears well in my eyes as the magic flames roar to life in my right fist.

"Thank you Blaze. I will." I whisper.

Tundra tries taking a bite out of me but Sheldon slams her tail ontop of Tundra's snot closing it. With a quick duck I'm able to land a hard uppercut sending the dragon flying backwards. He crashes into the water fountain before rolling a little through the wilted garden.

"Not bad cry baby." Sheldon says huffing and puffing.

"Thanks for the save." I pant back.

"It was the least I could do." She says limping to be a little closer to me.

"We're here!" Amaya shouts running beside Olive, Dre and Elbereth.

They are all covered in cuts and blood. I can only sense the faintest amount of magic so they fought to their max. Sheldon is struggling to stand beside me. Maddie is only healed enough to hold the broken bones in place. Everyone else is also beaten and/or drained of magic. Leaf joins the group carrying Arata who is badly injured. Arata nods to tell us their work is also done.

"Get up you worthless dragon!" Gilton bellows. "Kill them! KILL THEM ALL!!"

We look over to see Kem has Gilton locked up in magic canceling hand cuffs. Then the sound of Tundra slowly staggering to stand. He seems almost lifeless as he tries to catch his balance. 

"Help." That voice whispers again.

"It's Tundra." I whisper.

Sheldon looks at me funny.

"He's hurting." I whisper.

"No crap we beat the tar out of him." Sheldon states.

"Please. I never wanted to fight." Tundra's voice is even more faint. "Kill me."

"We have to break their bond." I whisper. "Sonja!"

She looks at me confused.

"Did you figure out how to break the bonds of master dragon?" I shout as Tundra finally gets steady.

Magic slowly grows inside of Tundra as he has to follow out Gilton's order.

"I haven't. The only way right now is death." Tears stream down her cheeks.

I glare at Gilton while I walk towards him. "Call him off." I growl.

"No." He smirks.

"I said call him off!" I have my fist raised.

"Squeeee!" Squeaks a familiar voice.

I turn my head to see Chip riding in a wave of giant rats. He is heading straight for us.

"What the-?" Everyone is in shock as the rats scoop Gilton up. He screams as he slowly disappears into the mass.

A large thud comes from where Tundra was. Turning I see he collapsed and cold air from the magic he gathered seeps off of his scales.

"It's over?" I ask in shock.

"What are you kids doing!? Get out of here it's danger-" A man in a white robe shouts running out of the mansion. He then trails off when he sees Tundra laying motionless on the ground.

Chip squeals and I turn to look at him. He nods then takes off with his family leaving behind only some scraps of black cloth and Kem's hand cuffs.

Note to self. Offer fruit later today to stay on giant rats good side.

"Dad. Gilton's rule is over." Kem says standing tall infront of the man.

Dad?!

I look back to Kem. Kem's dad who is a spitting image of Kem if he had purple hair, seems to be in complete shock of the scene still. 

"Where is Gilton? If he sees Tundra like this he will..." Kem's dad starts to panic and I can smell adrenaline.

"Gilton's dead." I say picking up a piece of bloody robe to show the man.

"Who are-?" He looks at the robe. Dropping to his knees he looks at his hands then to all of us with tears in his eyes. "It's really over?"

"Yes." Sonja says stepping forward. "I still haven't forgiven you for trying to marry me off to him though."

"I-I'm so sorry." He grovels at her feet. "I was trying to-"

"You only did it to save your own skin so don't bother." She says looking down at him.

A few other men in white robes slowly come out of the mansion. They are groggy as they try to make sense of Tundra. I can sense that Tundra is just barely alive. Everyone in our group is drained of magic. Their wounds to are not nearly as bad either.

"You all!" I point to the group of men. They stagger a little when they look at me. I point to Tundra. "Heal him. Now."

The men all hesitate but go over to heal the injured dragon. My friends all look at me in disbelief.

"He never wanted to fight but Gilton forced him to." I state.

"Would it not be better to just finish him off here?" Sheldon demands.

"No. Tundra was under Gilton's control. If he proves otherwise, I will take responsibility and do what needs to be done." I explain.

"... Very well. Only since Gilton is dead." Sheldon replies.

"So our family is back to being the head of the council." Kem's father starts to perk up. "This means I can be the head-"

I cut him short by punching him in the face. He looks up from the ground at me scared for his life.

"You are going to step down since you tried forcing your daughter into a marriage. Not to mention she has had a time bomb in her chest just to avoid this marriage. And to my knowledge you haven't done a thing. Sonja or Kem will take your place on your fancy council. Do I make myself clear." I growl my demand.

"Y-yes v-very c-clear." The pathetic so called father whimpers on the ground.

"Sonja should take the spot." Kem says looking at his sister.

"Nah. You are the better people person. I want to travel after being cooped up for so long anyways." Sonja shrugs.

"Always free spirited." Kem chuckles.

"Besides you're going to need a group you can trust to work in the shadows." Sonja gestures to the rest of us and herself. "Besides I'm sure beating up the council does come with some reprimanding consequences making it so we can't join the council."

"You're right there." Kem sighs.

"Finally!" Pearl shouts.

"What?" Half of us shout and we all look at her.

"I got enough magic built back up." She grins.

We sigh in relief at that statement and Sheldon tells her not to scare us like that.

Pearl takes off dancing in the sky with her clouds. Soon the clouds get darker then open up to let down healing rain from above. We all then laugh as we start to heal and wash away the stench of the battle. Sonja grabs ahold of my hand and starts dancing with me in the rain.

This day marked the first day of many hard but good days.
