Chapter 36:

Epi.8-3: The Visitor Who Met the Second Place Ghost

Two in the Abandoned House

“Today, I’ve come to meet Hanako-san of the School. Not Hanako-san at the Toilet.”

Cracking a light joke, the male video creator walked down the school building’s night-dark corridor.
The beam of the flashlight in his hand was just barely lighting his feet.
Smiling toward the camera, he opened the classroom doors one by one.

“Not here either. Okay, let’s check the next one.”

Walking on in a playful tone, he showed not a trace of fear.

In the midst of that, he stopped in front of a certain classroom.
A plate reading “Class 3-3” was hanging beside the door.

He happened to turn his eyes toward the window.

At the window-side seat, a lone schoolgirl was sitting.
Wearing a school uniform with long black hair, she quietly looked down over the night-dark schoolyard.
Her back, just as the stories had described, was fleeting—and beautiful.

The man involuntarily drew in a breath, struck speechless.

Whether she noticed him, or simply on a whim,
the girl slowly turned her face this way—and smiled.

“Uh… um…”

Just as he tried to call out to her, in that very moment—

her expression simply vanished.

Sound vanished too. Nothing could be heard.
Not his own voice, not his footsteps, not even the click of the flashlight.
Neither the wind outside nor the operating noise of his recording gear—

Everything had vanished.

It was like a silent film.

The night school building was wrapped in complete silence.

Driven by terror, the man fled the spot in a blind panic, but the sound did not return.

At the hospital, no abnormality was found in his hearing.
The prescribed medication didn’t work either.
He even tried an exorcism. Grasping at straws, he went to see a spiritual healer, but nothing could be done.

The sound finally returned on the morning of the third day.

In that moment, he collapsed and burst into tears.
And from that day on, he completely quit his video-posting activities.
He resolved never again to go near a haunted spot.

It was learned later that, during those three days—
not only his voice, but every sound that came from him had failed to reach anyone.
