Chapter 74:
Veil of the Shadow Hunter
Leegna stood before his allies, his eyes burning with the passion of a man driven by purpose. Unlec, Yuj, and the ever-watchful Eyeless Creature gathered around him, drawn to the magnetic confidence radiating from their leader. His calm demeanor and precise words cut through the tension in the room like a blade, leaving no doubt in their minds. To them, he was their guiding light—someone who would bring justice to those who had toyed with human lives and souls.
"We stand at the crossroads of fate," Leegna began, his voice deep and measured, each word deliberate, commanding attention. "The souls that have been twisted, imprisoned, and manipulated—they cry out for salvation. We can't ignore their pleas. We must be the force that ends their suffering."
He paused, his blue eye gleaming with intensity. "Those who treat human lives as mere playthings—the ones who have made a mockery of life and death—they will be stopped. And we, together, are the ones who will do it. We will put an end to their games."
Unlec nodded, his trust in Leegna unwavering. Yuj, whose calculating nature usually made him cautious, seemed to relax, finally putting his faith in Leegna's vision. Even the Eyeless Creature, silent and loyal, hovered closer to him, as if bound by an unseen tether of devotion.
Leegna's smile was soft, but there was a spark of something deeper, something colder behind it. He knew how to play them, how to make them believe in his noble cause. But his mind was already three steps ahead.
"We have all suffered in our ways," Leegna continued, his gaze shifting from ally to ally. "But now, with our combined strength, we can ensure that no one else endures the same fate. I will lead us through this. Together, we will tear down the walls of the Dark Embassy and bring peace to all those who have been wronged."
Unlec's hand clenched into a fist of determination. "Leegna, you have my loyalty. I will fight by your side to the end."
Yuj's eyes glimmered with a hint of suspicion, but the words that came from his mouth were of agreement. "I have followed many paths, but none more compelling than the one you offer now. I'm with you."
Leegna smiled. "Good. I will be there for you. For all of you. I won't abandon my allies, not now, not ever."
But behind those words was another thought entirely, one he kept hidden beneath the layers of his composed exterior. This is only the beginning. I will play this game, use them to achieve what I need—but the time will come when they will be discarded.
The group dispersed after their meeting, convinced of their shared mission. As they left, Leegna lingered, his smile fading once he was alone. His eyes narrowed as he gazed out into the void, contemplating the deeper currents moving beneath the surface of his supposed heroism.
Their trust will be my weapon, their loyalty my shield. He knew that, in time, they would come to suspect him. The key was not to allow them to suspect too soon.
Hours passed, and night crept upon their realm. The Eyeless Creature stayed nearby, always hovering in Leegna's shadow, a silent reminder of his past and of Yuj's twisted power over the souls of the lost. Leegna's gaze softened when it rested upon the creature, a sliver of the man he had once been surfacing in that moment. But the sliver was fleeting, crushed under the weight of his grand ambitions.
Later that night, in the quiet corners of his mind, Leegna allowed his true thoughts to surface. He could feel the growing power within him, the overwhelming need to see his plans come to fruition. His mind wandered to the future, where his true goal lay hidden beneath the pretense of salvation.
To tear down not just the Dark Embassy, but all realms... even if it costs me everything.
Before he could fall too deep into his thoughts, Leegna felt a shift in the air—a subtle but unmistakable change. He could sense it, the awareness of his allies just beginning to waver, the tiniest suspicion flickering in their minds. They couldn't place it, couldn't understand it just yet, but the seeds of doubt had been sown.
His cold logic and precise calculations had to remain perfect. There was no room for error. Not yet.
As the night deepened, the stillness of the room grew heavy. Unlec and Yuj, distant in their own quarters, felt an odd sensation wash over them, as if they had missed something during their conversation with Leegna. But they couldn't quite grasp it, like trying to remember a fading dream.
The Eyeless Creature, always by Leegna's side, tilted its head slightly, as though it too had caught a glimpse of something it didn't understand.
In the dark, Leegna's face remained calm, but his blue eye burned brighter than ever—a window to the storm within.
Let them have their doubts, he thought with a small, sinister smile. They will never see the truth until it's too late.
And so the veil of Leegna's intentions grew darker, hiding the true dance that would one day lead them all to their downfall.
