Chapter 75:

The Silent March of Shadows

Veil of the Shadow Hunter

Leegna sat at the edge of the firelight, his gaze sharp as it traveled over the flickering flames. The intensity in his blue eyes was unreadable, but to his allies seated around him—Unlec, Yuj, and the Eyeless—it was the look of a man determined to fight for something greater.

Leegna's voice was steady when he finally spoke. "We cannot allow those who toy with human lives and souls to continue their reign. I've seen enough. The Dark Embassy has gone too far."

The flames crackled as his words hung in the air. Yuj tilted his head, always quick to read people, but Leegna's demeanor was solid and convincing. He was every bit the leader they had hoped for.

"The Dark Embassy," Yuj mused, his voice as cold as the shadows around them. "They do more than toy with lives. They capture restless souls and bend them to their will—trap them in their own twisted experiments to create monsters. They have their Dark Pursuers, ten of them, who chase down any soul they wish. I've even heard whispers of berserkers, souls driven mad and used to forge their army."

Leegna nodded, his hands clasped before him. "That's why we must put an end to them. They don't just interfere with the natural cycle of life and death. They seek to rule over it. The humans they manipulate... they make them die miserable deaths just to steal their souls. We'll take this fight to their doorstep. We can't hesitate."

Unlec, quiet until now, stirred. "But their realm is no easy place to breach. They've got watchers and those lurking shadows—demons of the dark patrolling outside, ready to strike. And their leader, Tozyyk..." He paused, his eyes narrowing as he spoke the name. "Tozyyk is no ordinary enemy. His Grey Eye sees beyond. He can sense threats long before they reach him. He knows you, Leegna. He'll be ready."

Leegna turned to face Unlec, his expression calm but resolute. "I want him to know. Let him see me coming. I'll take down his realm piece by piece if I have to. And if it takes entering his domain, I'll do that too."

Yuj watched Leegna carefully, noticing the steel in his voice. His smile was thin, calculating. "Be careful, Leegna. Tozyyk isn't just watching. He's baiting you. He knows you're growing stronger, and that's exactly what he wants. If you power up too fast, you might fall right into his trap. He'll take your soul and use it against you."

Leegna gave a cold smile in return. "Let him try."

The Eyeless, silent as always, moved closer, its eyeless face focused on Leegna. It didn't need words to express its loyalty. It was a creature born from his loss, a reminder of the pain that had driven him this far.

The group sat in silence for a moment longer before Leegna stood, his back to the fire, casting a long shadow across the ground.

"We'll do it together," he said. His voice was quiet, yet it commanded attention. "I'll lead us. I'll ensure the pitiful souls taken by the Dark Embassy are freed. No one else will suffer as they have."

His allies nodded, reassured by his words, their trust in him unshakable. But as they looked at Leegna, none of them noticed the glint of cold calculation in his eyes, a flicker of something darker lurking behind his composed expression.

Leegna's true plan was already in motion. He was playing them all, putting on the perfect facade. To stop the Dark Embassy and become the hero they wanted was just the beginning. His ambitions reached far beyond their understanding.

Unlec and Yuj exchanged a brief glance. Yuj was the first to break the silence, his voice thoughtful, "We'll support you, Leegna. You're the one who can free them. And when the time comes, we'll be right there with you."

Leegna nodded, but his thoughts were elsewhere. The Dark Embassy and Tozyyk... They were dangerous, yes, but they weren't the real threat in Leegna's eyes. His power, his goals, they were beyond this mere fight. He knew the dangers of what lay ahead—the watchers, the Dark Pursuers, Tozyyk's Grey Eye, even Yuj's manipulations—but he wasn't afraid.

He was already planning his next move, how to draw them all into his web and take control of the situation. For now, he would play the role of the leader, the one who sought justice for the fallen souls, but deep inside, his mind was filled with thoughts of something much larger. A vision of control over all realms, even if it meant betraying those who trusted him most.

As the conversation died down, Leegna's smile faded. He had already caught glimpses of the coming betrayals, both from Yuj and perhaps even from the Dark Embassy. But none of that mattered. The ultimate betrayal, the one no one would expect, would come from him.

Later that night, as the group began to rest, Leegna sat alone, staring into the distance. His body tensed, his mind racing with possibilities. His power had grown, but it wasn't enough. He needed more. The shadows around him seemed to whisper, feeding his ambition.

And as the night deepened, a strange, haunting smile spread across Leegna's face. This was only the beginning. His mind, sharp as a blade, cut through the fog of uncertainty. He knew what he had to do.

"I'll save them... all of them..." His voice was a whisper, but his tone was far from pure.

In the darkness, no one could see the dangerous glint in his eyes, a foreshadowing of the chaos to come.
