Chapter 43:
Two in the Abandoned House
“I want to introduce Rin-chan, so I’m just going to jump right in! It was sudden, but thanks to everyone who came! And this here is Rin-chan, the cursed doll.” She fluttered her hand as if to highlight Rin. However, Rin said nothing.
“Rin-chan, can you introduce yourself?” When Yuka placed her hand on Rin’s torso—
“Don’t touch me!” She twisted her body, clearly showing her refusal.
The comment section began to scroll. “Ventriloquism?” “That’s way too high-level.” “She’s a pro, right?” It was being taken as Yuka’s high-level ventriloquism.
“No, that’s not it. Rin-chan can move on her own, and she can talk. See?” She tried to peer into Rin’s face.
“Too close! Back off!” Rin’s hand stopped Yuka’s face.
“Did it move even though she didn’t touch it?” “Did she combine ventriloquism and magic?” “Her entertainment skills are insane!” It was still being taken as Yuka’s outrageous level of skill.
Yuka straightened her posture and said, “Me and Rin-chan are totally in love,” and Rin immediately turned around.
“No! I hate you!” She pointed sharply as she said it, leaving no room for doubt.
“Whaaat?! Why would you say something like that?!” She lifted Rin with both hands and peered at her, as if pleading.
At that moment, the door to the room opened, and Sayuri and Shinobu appeared. The instant Yuka saw them—
“Ah, you two. Rin-chan says she hates me. Do you think it’s a rebellious phase?” Clutching Rin with both hands, she looked at the two of them with pleading eyes. All the while, Rin kept slapping Yuka’s hands, shouting, “Let go! Let go!”
Sayuri, suddenly put on the spot, seemed to be choosing her words carefully, but—
“…I think she’s hated you from the very beginning.” “Hey, Sayuri-chan.”
“Maybe that was true at first, but we parted with smiles at the end, right? Right?” She turned pleading eyes toward Rin.
“I didn’t smile! I glared!”
“Yeah. She was glaring.” “…Y-yes…” Sayuri answered immediately while floating softly, and Shinobu squeezed out her words, sounding reluctant.
The comments kept scrolling even during the exchange. “That puppet control is insane.” “The voice sounds doubled—does that kind of technique even exist?” “Is it actually moving?” “I get it, it’s psychic powers.” “What is this hellish scene?”
Questions from the viewers were being thrown in one after another, but Yuka completely ignored them and stayed focused on Rin.
“Yuka, cut it!” Misaki, who had been watching while drinking at a table outside the frame, raised her voice loudly—something rare for her.
“Eeh! No way!” She looked at her pleadingly, but Misaki’s decision did not change.
“Let go of Rin.” She said it quietly, flatly.
“…Okaaay.” Perhaps she had resigned herself to it—though clearly displeased, she released Rin.
Rin instantly leapt down from the table, darted past the feet of the two ghosts, and melted into the darkness through the gap in the door. A moment later, the door closed without a sound.
Various comments were scrolling by, but in the end, they were more or less summed up by a single one.
“I didn’t understand anything—what was that?”
