Chapter 0:
Rapture
Somewhere in the city of japan laid a seemingly desolate wasteland. the land covered in ruble and destroyed debris, from broken-down buildings and homes alike. Several sinkholes scattered about the area, the shadow being casted within the pits gives of the feeling there's no real end to how deep it goes.
"Hah-hah-hah!"
heavy is panting is heard coming from a woman in a torn cloak, revealing her wearing a protective black suit that covered in tiny toothy spikes. the woman is currently taking cover behind the wall of some destroyed building. as she catches her breath she places her two fingers against her throat.
"c-come in! this is Ataka kokoro from the Executioners faction, currently in the restricted part of Nagoya. my squad....t-they-"
"SCREEEEEEEEE!"
Before Ataka could finish, a ear deafening screech abruptly cuts her off. the source of the Noise sound terrifyingly close its cry echoes through the wasteland as if not just giving off a warning, but a promise.
"S-shit..!"
Ataka curses under her breath, her eyes widening looking towards the gaping area in which first entered, her guard all the way up as she quietly listened to the thunderous footsteps quickly Approaching.
Ataka gets into a four-point stance closely resembling that of a track runner. She takes in a shaky deep breath before exhaling, in a more controlled manner.
BRRRRRR
A low hum can be heard as the very air around Ataka began to vibrate, sparks of electricity faintly danced around her. the veins visibly bulge from her neck. She grits her teeth as blood drips forming at the corners of her mouth.
DADUM-DADUM-DADUM!
"SCREEEEEEEEEE!"
The sounds of screeching and thunderous footsteps Are louder, MUCH louder
As the source of the noise gets closer Ataka stands her ground, her lips balled up as she anticipates the creature's appearance.
.........
"SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
DADUMDADUMDADUMDADUM!
The source of the noise is made known as a horde of four-legged abominations moving together as a group, making their appearance a rushing blur into a unconceivable mesh passing by the opening of the building the very building the woman had been taking cover in. the horde's continuous screeching and footsteps make it impossible to even think.
But Ataka stays resolute.
as the horde continues passing by the already broken down building begins to crumble. bits of debris begin to fall as the wave of the horde pushes against the building, As if not even acknowledging the building as an obstacle.
Just then the building begins to collapse on itself. and just as it appears that Ataka will be crushed, the space around her slows down, nearly to a complete stop. the once faint flickering lightning is now boldly striking the ground, the ground beginning to melt beneath her feet.
'There...!'
Ataka thinks to herself as she notices a small opening made within the horde. the cloak's hood covered her eyes only revealing a bright glaring light. and then-
'Ting...'
'ZOOOOOM!'
In an instant Ataka blitzes outside the building, forming powerful shockwave that sends the once collapsing building scattering in various directions, and causes a part of the horde to disperse. a beam of light trails behind Ataka.
her hood being pulled back by the force of her explosive leap, revealing her silky black hair. Her right eye blacked out, the exception of her glowing iris. her eyes sharp and determine, filled with hope. Blood continues dribbling down her chin as blood continuously leaks from the corner of her mouth. Ataka thinks to herself as she continues soaring through the vast wasteland
'Its risky pushing myself like this but this is my best bet. even if I don't make it to the exit I should still be able to get close enough be seen by the a faction member'
Just then Ataka finishes that thought a massive shadow looms over her head. it figure blocking out the sun.
"huh?-"
BOOOOOM!
Before Ataka could process what was happening, she gets sent hurtling into the with ground breaking force. Her collision with the earth picks up a large cloud of dirt, her collision echoes throughout the destroyed city.
the dust cloud dissipates just enough to make Ataka visible.
"u-ugh....!"
Ataka lets out a groan, clearly in pain. on her back, she struggles to move, sharp burning pain shoots throughout Ataka's body.
Ataka manages to roll onto her side, prepping herself up on her forearm.
"BLEGH! koff koff!"
As if a dam had burst, Ataka suddenly threw up blood onto the ground, she let out a thick, wet cough, hawking up and sputtering out the blood clots in her throat.
"D-damn it..!"
Ataka curses weakly in a shaky breath, her eyes hazy as they dart back and forth trying to spot the person or thing that sent her crashing to the ground.
'I couldn't spare any mana to defend myself...that reckless move was my only hope at getting out of her alive.'
"Clack-clack-clack sssss~"
A hollow clicking followed by a soft eerie hiss can be heard nearby, the noise makes Ataka freeze, her eyes widening in shock and terror.
"Clack-clack-clack sssss~"
The unsettling sound rings out again, but there's no sign of its presence anywhere. sweat drips down Ataka's forehead, her easy continue to dart left and right the dust cloud clears up a bit more just enough to reveal countless beady eyes moving about in the distance. All seemingly looking in Ataka's direction.
DADUM-DADUM-DADUM
"SCREEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
The familiar sounds of a specific horde's footsteps can be heard in the distance its as if it its getting closer to Ataka. A shiver runs down Ataka as she's overcome with one feeling...
Dread.
The only thing that Ataka is capable of feeling in that moment is dread. the horde she spent all her mana on in order to escape, has managed to catch up with her again.
'How...!? could they have gotten attracted by the sound?!'
DADUM-DADUM-DADUM-DADUM!
in a panic Ataka scampers back, struggling to stand her feet after that devastated blow she took head on and the lack of mana. just then she backs into a seemingly sturdy wall off debris, giving Ataka a sense of comfort, now being able to not be taken by surprise.
Or so she thought....
"CLACK-CLACK-CLACK SSSSS.."
The daunting sound of that hollow click and faint hiss can be heard so close that its as if the source of the noise was right above Ataka...
!!
Ataka widen as at the frightening realization that what she backed into was not in fact a wall of debris, it was something sturdier, rough, and prickly. Ataka's body visibly shook with not exhaustion, but fear.
Ataka slowly lifts her head to see the creature that stands above her, casting a shadow above her head. once she makes eye contact with the creature, her breath briefly gets caught up in her throat.
"w-what are you"
Ataka mutters barley above a whisper as her words float in the air, a strange sensation comes over Ataka.
the creature looks down at Ataka with an indifferent expression, coming off as condescending. the creature tilts its head as if studying Ataka's pitiful state. the creatures appearance resembles that of a male human, its skin that of rough armor like that of in exoskeleton. its presence it gives of a sense of superiority the space around Ataka distorts as the monster's grows in size.
'I deserve to die..'
Thoughts begin to fill Ataka's head, that sounds like her voice, but there's an underlying flatness that's devoid of any emotion to in its tone.
'This is my fault...they're all dead because of me..'
As the intrusive thoughts continues echoing in Ataka's head, the face of the monsters face begins to part and lift up causing a horizontal split that goes from ear to ear. it reveals its true face as it begins to open its mouth revealing rows sharp teeth. thick saliva stretches' to an uncannily extent. it leans closer to Ataka, the monster's saliva lands on Ataka's tearful cheek.
Sssss~
a soft sizzle can be heard as the monster's saliva begins to burn Ataka skin, Ataka is so deep in her trance she doesn't respond to the sensation.
"I'm so useless.. I couldn't even save him..."
Ataka mumbles softly, as she utters a final word. not noticing the horde that she had ran from finally caught up to her all leering at her vulnerable state, lapping their long tongues.
"forgive me for failing you, Hikari..."
Ataka shuts her eyes, letting a tear fall down her cheek as she excepts her fate.
vooooOOOOOOOMMM!
Just then, descending from the ground like a meteor, a figure crashes right into the spot where Ataka is. The force blowing the creatures back, some scattered body parts fly in the air.
The spot where the figure first land from parts the rusty-looking clouds in the sky, causing the sun to finally breakthrough and cast its ray of light.
The warmth of the sun rays, tickles Ataka's face causing her to slowly open her eyes.
As Ataka eyes opens, her eyes adjusting to the newfound light, it takes her a moment to realize that's she's in the arms of a mysterious being. Her eyes widen as her vision finally adjust and she see a humanoid entity whos entire body is incased in a armor that reflects off of the sun. its face, that of a knight's or a warrior's helmet. there's no opening for its mouth or nose, long dread like tendrils coming from behind its head, the only opening the entity's body armor has. the only opening were the eyes. it was sharp and narrow making it impossible to see what lies underneath. The only visible thing on its face were its Golden orange, cat like eyes, eyes that glowed underneath the shadow of its armor, its expression unreadable.
blood from the creatures that were blown away was scattered on the the side of the entity's face.
Ataka opens her mouth to speak but she cut of by a familiar screech, that catches both of their attention.
"SCREEEEE!"
Several bestial creatures, inches closer towards the two. the Entity carrying Ataka lets out a low grumble its body language showing that its clearly annoyed by their presence. despite that the entity lowers Ataka down gently at Ataka's surprise.
The entity takes a few steps toward the approaching pack of beast.
'Krrraaack~'
The Armor on the entity's face begin cracking and splitting where its mouth should be.
"Haaah..."
The entity lets out a sigh out of its new formed, jagged mouth. steam exudes from it.
"@#%^&*^*"
The entity mumbles something in an aliened language. Then-
"ROAAR!"
The roar emitted from the entity vibrated the very air halting the hordes progression and even spooking Ataka just a bit.
the abominable creatures began whimpering and one by one ran away with their thick lizard like tails tucked in-between their legs. Ataka silently watches the entity as it stands it's ground as the creatures fled.
't-they're leaving!'
Ataka's brain races as she contemplating the situation she's witnessing first hand.
'A Nephilim that not only protects a person but one that strikes fear of God into its own kin..?!'
Once the Nephilim is at a far away distance, The source of the creature's fear looks over its shoulder glancing at Ataka, its dread-like tendrils flowing the wind almost majestically. The sun beaming and reflecting off its armor further instills the revelation that Ataka has come to.
'This things mannerisms are a clear sign that it poses a higher intelligence than the other Nephilim...could it be..a king!?!'
