Chapter 7:

Chaos In The Chat

Kanojo wa Koe dake - A Love Beyond the Screen

After Airi presented the ideas they—Airi and Ren—collected at the library the day before, the class voted for a café. Of course a maid cafe because everyone thought that it would be the best idea for everyone, the visitors and the class itself. Then Airi and Ren went to the student council which was not particularly surprised that the idea collection had already started. They submitted their idea to open a maid cafe to the council and went back to their normal school days. Until the first day of May, a Friday, when Airi could go home earlier because her athletics club got canceled because the club leaders were sick. Airi said "Bye!" and "Have a good weekend!" to everyone she knew and went outside to meet Hana Kanzaki and then go home together.
"Heyy Hana-chan! How was your day?" Airi greeted and asked Hana.
"Heyoo! Pretty good, and yours?"
"Mine was good as well. Wanna go home now?"
"Yeah, let's go!"
And with that, they left the school campus through the front gate and went left, straight into the direction of the Sunrise Residence and Hana's home.
"Do you stream today again? And also I was wondering ... How's it going with Sato-san?" Hana asked.
"Yeah, I probably will but I only want to talk today and ... WHAT?!" Airi took a while to realize what Hana asked for but she calmed herself again and continued.
"I don't know what you mean but there's nothing going on and everything is fine. He does the things he always does and I do my things I always do."
"Hmmm, if you say so? I was just asking because you said you were interested in him because he's so quiet."
"Ohh, that's what you mean... I think I understand him now. At least way better than before."
"What do you understand?" Hana asked back.
"That he is being all by himself to protect himself."
"But against what Ai-chan?"
"Against other people that might hurt him, I think."
"Ah, that's interesting indeed." Hana seemed as if she had come up with an idea.
"You know what, I think your relationship with him is funny. He wants to be all by himself to protect himself and you want to study him and to understand him. And on top of that, you are the type that seeks for friends to not be lonely anymore. You two are quite funny I have to say." Hana said.
"Ah, so that's the insight you've come to? Anyways, he can be very communicative and I think I can help him with trusting others more in the future."
"I think I can fix him." Hana said with her fingers in the shape of quotation marks and a smug face.
"That's not what I meant!" Airi said outraged.
"Could it be that you're starting to like him a bit more?" Hana said suspicious.
"I don't know what you mean but of course I like him. He's nice and if we want to work together we have to like each other at least a bit." Airi retorted.
And so their paths diverged and Airi went home. As she walked into her apartment she said, "I'm home again," but no one answered and Airi could easily figure out why. Her parents weren't home again so she was all alone. She got some snacks and went into her room. After she changed out of her school uniform into her everyday clothes—today it was her tracksuit—she started her PC and sat down on her chair. She thought about whether she should start the live stream now or wait a bit but after a little hesitation, she started the live stream and made the announcement so all her followers know, that HikariAi is live again.
"Heyoo everyone and welcome back to the best livestream in the world from Tokyo! Here's your beloved HikariAi and I'm glad to talk to you guys again!"  Airi said in her role as HikariAi and with much exaggeration.
[ShadowHeart]: "Wooow, finally you're back! I've waited soo long to see you again Ai-chan!"
[BlueLantern_77]: "Yesssss, you made my day HikariAi!"
The followers flowed like water from a breached dam and they all were happy to see that she live streamed again. Airi's mood went better with every second of the stream and she was happy to be welcomed by so many people that loved her.
"So today, I wanted to just chat with you." HikariAi said and with that the first questions were asked.
[CtrlAltHug]: "How are you and how was your day?"
"Oh, I'm fine and my day was very good, though my club got canceled today. Normally I would've had club today but my club leaders are sick so they said that we could relax today and so I went home with my best friend and now I'm here streaming with you, haha."
Ren tuned into the live stream now as HikariAi talked about her day. "Didn't the athletics club get canceled today?" he thought but on the other hand it could be all coincidence that everything seems similar. He doesn't even know if HikariAi attended the same school. The only thing he knew was that she also was from Tokyo but that's all. Obviously HikariAi wouldn't tell anyone where exactly she lived and only the fact Ren knew that she lived in Tokyo was kinda strange for him. That was nothing anyone should know! It is enough to know she was from Japan but why does she have to tell everyone that she's from Tokyo? Many questions came up in Ren's head but at the same moment he evaporated them with one single thought. "Why do I have to care? It's her problem not mine." and with that he continued concentrating on the live stream.
As he did, someone in the chat asked HikariAi what she thinks about the boy now that she mentioned in earlier streams and if she interacted with him more in the past few days and so she answered.
"I get why you ask me that but it's a little embarrassing to tell, hehe. He's very cool at first and not very self-conscious but when you start talking with him he gets much warmer and talkative and I really like working and talking with him. He has beautiful eyes and even though he isn't assigned to any sports club, he looks a bit sporty."
[D3mon]: "Sounds like you love him to me."
[ShadowHeart]: "@D3mon ha, only you would think that! As if she would fall in love so quickly with some random guy she just met. She loves us more anyway!"
[D3mon]: "@ShadowHeart chill dude XD You weren't even mentioned so stay quiet!"
A discussion broke out and the chat had to be moderated. HikariAi said nothing and it was only the music silently played in the background. A minute went by as HikariAi started to speak again but not about the discussion but about some other topics.
In the meantime, Ren's little sister Yumeko Sato went into Ren's room and talked with him. He put down his headphones and asked her.
"What were you saying? I couldn't hear you well Yumeko."
"I was asking you if you would like to train with me. You are riding your bike and I'm running besides you. Or do you want to run with me?"
"Yes, why not?"
"Why not?! Because you never wanted to run with your cute little sister for a while now!" said Yumeko but while she was a bit outraged she also was very happy that Ren said yes. Ren switched into his sports clothes and then they both went outside and ran down the Yumenari River until they came to the bridge—even though it has no official name, the people call it the Bridge of Love—that leads into the Kagehama Park. A famous park for romantic events like weddings or just for some sporty activities like running. And so, Ren and Yumeko ran along their normal route, a course in the park and back again over the Bridge of Love and back home. While running, Ren thought about what he heard and read in the live stream and his suspicions grew stronger that Airi could be HikariAi but he didn't have evidence for that so he put them aside for now. Back home, Ren went into the bathroom to clean himself of the sweat, put on some new clothes and went back to his PC and watched some anime and played some video games until the day was over.
Airi ended the stream not long after Ren left it because the moderation with only one moderator—which was Hana Kanzaki—was too much for both of them to handle. After the stream she talked with Hana and read some manga afterwards. It wasn't such a good day anymore but Airi looked forward to the next day.
