Chapter 2:
Light Deep inside Void Volume 1 : Calamity
Minyi kept staring out the window, her eyes fixed on the shape in the sky. It looked wrong, like a cloud that had forgotten how to stay together.
The longer she looked, the more her chest tightened, but she refused to accept what her mind was trying to tell her.
That was when the sky tore open. There was no sound at first, only a sudden pressure that made the air feel heavy and thin at the same time.
Light bent unnaturally, stretching and folding as if the sky itself had been ripped apart. Minyi’s ears rang as the world seemed to pause for a brief, terrifying moment.
Five outer dimensional entities emerged. They did not roar or rush forward. They simply appeared, suspended in the torn sky,
Their forms unclear and shifting as if they did not fully belong. The silence they carried was worse than any noise, pressing down on everything below them.
The shockwave came next. The classroom shook violently as the floor lurched beneath their feet. Desks slid across the room, chairs toppled over,
And glass shattered inward. Minyi stumbled, her balance lost as screams erupted around her.
“This isn’t real,” she whispered, shaking her head. “This can’t be real.” Fyumi didn’t answer.
She grabbed Minyi’s hand tightly and pulled her toward the door without hesitation. Her grip was firm, grounding, leaving no room for doubt or delay.
“Move,” Fyumi said sharply. “Now.” The hallway was already chaos when they stepped outside. Cracks ran along the walls, ceiling panels fell one after another,
And students ran in every direction. Teachers shouted instructions that were immediately swallowed by the noise and confusion.
Yuzu appeared beside them, his expression calm despite the shaking ground. “This way,” he said, pointing down the corridor. “The stairs near the science wing should still be clear.”
Minyi barely registered his words. Her eyes kept drifting upward, her mind pulled back to the sky.
The entities were still there, unmoving, watching, as if the destruction below had nothing to do with them.
The building shook again, harder this time. Fyumi tightened her grip on Minyi’s hand and ran.
Minyi followed, her legs moving on instinct rather than thought. Every step felt unreal, as if she were running through a dream she couldn’t wake up from.
Debris rained down as they turned the corner. A section of the ceiling collapsed behind them, cutting off part of the hallway. Minyi gasped, her heart pounding so hard it hurt.
“We’re okay,” Fyumi said quickly, more to herself than anyone else. “Just keep going.” Yuzu stayed slightly behind them,
Calling out directions and warning them where the floor had cracked. He didn’t shout or panic, his voice steady even as the building groaned around them. Somehow, that calm made it easier to keep moving.
They reached the exit just as another violent tremor ran through the school. The doors burst open, and they stumbled outside into open air.
Minyi collapsed to her knees, breathing heavily as the noise behind them faded into distant crashes.
“We made it,” Fyumi said, her voice trembling for the first time. “We’re out.”
Minyi nodded weakly, relief flooding through her chest. Then she looked around.
Yuzu wasn’t there.
Her breath caught as she stood up too quickly. She scanned the area, her eyes darting back to the entrance. The broken building loomed behind them, dust pouring from its cracks.
“Yuzu,” she said softly. Then louder. “Yuzu?” He didn’t answer. The realization hit her all at once, sharp and heavy.
He had been guiding them, staying behind to show the way. If anyone had fallen back, it would have been him.
“It’s our fault,” Minyi whispered, her hands trembling. “Because he was showing us the way, he got left behind. We’re the reason he’s still inside.”
Fyumi opened her mouth to respond, but before she could say anything, a familiar voice spoke from nearby.
“Why are you both looking like that?” Minyi turned sharply. Yuzu stood a few steps away, slightly out of breath, dust clinging to his clothes.
“I was in the washroom when everything started,” he said calmly. “The exit near there was still open.”
For a moment, Minyi couldn’t move. Then she rushed forward without thinking, stopping just short of him. Her chest felt tight, emotions tangled and overwhelming.
“You’re safe,” Fyumi said quietly, a small smile breaking through her fear. Yuzu nodded. “Yeah. I am.”
The relief didn’t last long. Minyi felt it before she saw it, a strange pressure crawling up her spine.
She slowly looked back toward the sky. The five entities were still there, but now something had changed.
They were moving.
Not attacking. Not descending. Just shifting, as if adjusting themselves to this world.
And for the first time since the sky broke, Minyi understood one thing clearly.
Whatever was happening had only just begun.
To be continue...
