Chapter 6:
The Myth of Kiarathyto
I've never been in a mine in my previous life, but that doesn't mean I don't know what a mine looks like. That's why I was in shock when I entered the mines. Everything was pretty white, even the ground. There were no torches, but I could see without any problems. From what I saw so far in this city, I can assume the entire mine is made of suram. But I can also see several ores on the ground or the walls of different colors. Some of them seemed to have been already mined, so I believe there are miners in Kirutto.
Further inside I found a iron-like gate. I think this was made to prevent the miners to going further in, but it was already open. I didn't think much about it and went ahead. Now here is the most surprising part: This place just went from a exquisite mine to a full fantasy dungeon in a few minutes. After going through a tunnel, I arrived at a wide place where the ground just reached its end. When I looked below, I saw nothing but darkness. There's a bunch of flying platforms moving around which I suppose is the only way to cross this place, but since I can fly this should pose no threat. There's a few bigger platforms floating in the air without moving and...a person? Wait, it is...!
Amuronakia?! He is here!
I saw Amuronakia jumping from platform to platform and felt my heart racing.
How?! How can it be?!
My body just moved before I thought about anything else. Using the wind to support my body and block gravity, I started flying in his direction. He jumped into one of the bigger platforms and looked back to see me a few meters behind him, drawing my sword and charging it with lightning power.
"I won't let you get an other relic!"
I hit with all my might, but he blocked using the Sword of Essence. Strong wind currents were created and went everywhere. I could see a few bits of his slim body below his long cloak. Even so, he withstood my attack and we both jumped back.
"Why are you seeking the relics?!"
"..."
Frustration grew on my chest as he didn't answer my question. Before I could say anything more though, he lifted up the Sword of Essence and summoned the Spiriculus once again.
From where are those things coming?!
A few of them attacked me, but I destroyed them with a fire blast. Without losing the momentum I created two big fire gales to try to defeat him in one attack, but the Spiriculus merged in front of him to create a white shield capable of blocking my attacks. To be able to make a mere human capable of fighting against a demigod... The Sword of Essence is truly a incredible weapon. Since I'm not wearing my armor, I must take care.
"I see you really don't want to talk---?!"
Before I could finish, Amuronakia seemed startled and jumped on the ground. A ray of light wen through where he was standing a second before.
"What?!"
Looking at the direction the ray came from I saw...a thing. A giant rocky blue ball thing with four arms, a big square in its middle with another small red square inside it... I think it's its eye. Is this the guardian Jyuurin warned me about? The thing turned towards me and the small square shined and shot its ray of light at me. I jumped to the side just in time to evade.
Amuronakia quickly got up and with a simple move of the Sword of Essence sent a energy cutter made of Spiriculus at the guardian, but that thing created a shield of light with one of its arms.
A chance...!
While the guardian was occupied blocking the attack, I took the opportunity to create and threw a few earth spears at Amuronakia. He did everything he could to evade, almost falling from the platform. However, the guardian aimed the palm of one of his hand at Amuronakia and shot a big ball of light in his direction. He still blocked the attack using the Sword of Essence, but ended up being pushed over the edge.
Shit! He'll fall... The Sword of Essence---!
I flew in his direction as fast as I could, but could not stop his fall. I saw part of his white skin and black hair almost within my reach, yet it was too late. I tried using my wind powers to reach him, despite that I still couldn't do anything because as soon as I showed my back to the guardian, it created a big club made of light to crush me. I had to defend my unprotected body using Astra and a small wind barrier, and yet I was still launched several meters into the air. When I composed myself I only had time to see Amuronakia's body disappearing in the darkness.
"Damn it!"
It feels like I've been losing everywhere since I arrived here... I hate it! I hate it!!
I focused my attention at the guardian. It created three more light clubs in its three remaining arms. Here comes its full strength, yet...
You're nothing in comparison to Unkladesh!
I created four strong wind spheres around me and enchanted them with fire, water, lightning and earth elements. With more magic power injected into them, the four spheres started to change and grow really fast.
This will be what I call a Tetra Cataclysm. Four tornadoes of four different elements. Something I wasn't capable of until I tried to learn how to control my powers better. The four tornadoes ravaged even the atmosphere itself, the platforms disintegrating instantly. The guardian tried to stop my attacks with his shield of light, nevertheless it crumbled in a second together with its body. I had no reason to hold back. However, a second after that I lost control of the tornadoes and saw them falling apart. A huge amount of elemental magic went in all directions and the entire mine started shaking.
An earthquake?!
Big chunks of rock were falling from the ceiling, I had to evade from a few of them.
I have to find the Sword of Essence, but...
I also have to find the Rainbow Pentagon. My rash actions just made everything harder for me!
I don't have a choice!
I quickly flew to the end of the mine. There I found a big wall with a small pentagonal hole in it. When I looked left I also found several scriptures there, similar to what I saw at the mural in that ruins.
The earthquake...stopped.
I looked back and thought about trying to find the Sword of Essence and since this was actually the first time I thought about everything that happened since I entered this place, I realized something. It was Tyargu herself who said Amuronakia was someone akin to a rival to me, so I believe it was silly from me to expect that guy to just die before I even reach the second relic. He got inside Kirutto without anyone noticing after all, he must have some means to fly or climb high places.
Having said that, I took a look at the wall on my left side and tried to read the scriptures.
These are different from the ones on the mural... I don't think I can read it...
What I was looking at was not random symbols I could easily read, but actual words in some alphabet. I touched the wall with my bare hand and the letters started shining. I felt my energy being forcibly drawn.
"Ugh...My head..."
My body was getting weaker and my head hurt. Soon, I started having flashbacks of a past I didn't belong. Aside from the images, I also started hearing a voice...a monologue.
From the ground I was born, at the beginning of everything.
My role was only one: To define the lands. To take over the soil.
At that empty world I infused my gift. I beheld the landscape metamorphosis.
And then my purpose was gone. My existence was not needed anymore.
I went underground for there is where I should stay, forever watching this world.
I felt my knee touch the ground. That was just too much information for my brain to take all at once. I saw a lot of images as though I was in Memurio's shoes.
"I am glad I could finally tell you the story of my existence."
I heard a voice in my head and then heard the central wall moving. It divided in two and opened a new path.
"What...is this...?"
The path led to a giant crystal chamber. Kinda rainbow colored, I could see a bunch of crystal swords piercing the ground. There were something spherical shining inside them. At the center of this place, a huge cube-like thing was covered by crystal veins that went from the ground to the ceiling. It had a silver color and red spherical cavities in all its sides, like a die. I felt a sense of nostalgia looking at it.
"Are you... Memurio?"
"That is me, indeed."
"..."
I was kinda speechless.
"I sealed myself in this chamber and made it so only you could open a way to find me."
"Why?"
"Because I have something that is yours."
"...Yes, that seems to be the case..."
I should be more focused into getting the relic, but I also feel like talking to this cubic god.
"In that case, where is the--"
Before I could ask, I saw a shadow passing by me and looked up. It was a blue bird-like animal with scarlet eyes.
"Jyuurin!"
The moment I shouted, Jyuurin turned around, transformed into his human form and fell on the ground.
"I must thank you, Kiarathyto. I would never be able to enter this place if you had not came here."
His voice tone was completely different from before. It was more...cold.
"Why would you want to enter here?"
"Hm? To destroy Memurio, of course!"
That was inconceivable. It was so absurd it took me a few seconds to absorb what he just said. Nevertheless, if that's true that means he is an enemy. I drew my sword and pointed at him, ready to fight a demigod like me.
