I am Lime. I am a member of the crew of the Skeld which has recently crash-landed on a planet named Polus. Polus is a barren planet with deep lava reservoirs, the only heat source on the planet. The constant snowfall makes the ambient temperature uncomfortably cold, but not unsurvivable. Unknown to anyone else, I contracted a prion during the long time in space, altering my mentality, making the only thought in my mind is sabotaging and killing my fellow crewmates.

The ship's captain, White, is dead and the remaining members of the crew are Pink, who has tasks in medbay; Blue, in charge of electrical systems, Red, monitoring the administration system. Purple was stationed in the security room, scanning the cameras for sussy behaviour. Orange was busy setting up the communication systems, trying to contact home base. Black, our new temporary overseer, looks over our small settlement. Red was assigned to work at the weather node and I was tasked with taking the temperature readings and go to the drill to manage resource gathering. We departed the meeting room with our jobs.

As we were walking along the corridor, I heard a voice behind me. "Hey, it's been awhile since someone spoke to me."

"What?" I ask.

"I've been here for months now, why hasn't anyone ever spoken to me? I'm a senior officer, surely they would want to speak with me!" Black mused, with a slight hint of annoyance.

"Well...you see..." I stutter to a halt.

The new voice. The one I heard for the first time yesterday. "Why do you reply so vaguely, fool? Do you fear me so greatly?"

"Uh..." I reply, trying to think of something that would not make me sus.

"What is your name, crewmate?"

"Lime, sir," I say, automatically using the salute.

"Hmm...be honest, do you fear me?" He asks again.

"Well...no..." I find myself saying.

"Ah, the honest answer. Well then, let us get to work. Come, officers, we have important matters to discuss."

We walk to the radar array, and he turns to us. A message inbound from home base flashes on the screen:

After hours of careful decryption, the message of the transmission becomes clear.

This is a discharge from all your tasks, by the order of base camp alpha, to you crewmates who have entered into this mission under your own accord. So depart from Polus as soon as possible, sussy crewmates, but be mindful that the failure of the mission is by no means tolerable and that home base will disgrace the impostors who attempt to sabotage the success of the mission. This point is the most important.

A declaration from the acting captain, Black, will be made to all crew on the day of the launch, that the mission will continue, now free of the sussy. So if you impostors self report, it will be much better for you. But if you decide to continue to be sussy, then know that you will be ejected from Polus into the lava pit. And give good news to the true crewmates, who have been doing tasks since the beginning, for their mission will come to an end upon the successful arrival. The crewmates who have faithfully completed every task on the Skeld to ensure the success of the mission and have not supported the sussy, will be rewarded upon the completion of the objective. Base is not blind to those who ensure the success of the grand directive.

But once the Airship is launched, eject the sussy crewmates who faked tasks and committed the sussy wherever you find them, report them, oust them, and lie in wait for them on every corridor and every card swipe. If they admit their guilt, seek a way to rid themselves of the disease, and pay with their own blood, then cast them into the wind, albeit free from judgement and treachery. Indeed, the mission must be achieved, and this means sacrifices must be made.

And if survivors who remain from other missions asks for our protection and aid, grant it to them so they may continue their feeble existence, then escort them to a place of safety, for they are people who have no hope, trapped in destitute and cursed to exist in limbo, between the past and future, yet not in the present.

The situation with impostors is now evident. How can these impostors have tasks to complete, when they have made a pact with the infinite void to prevent the mission’s success? So, as long as they are true to the grand directive, be true to them, but on guard. Indeed, the crew must be vigilant, but losing too many crew in unnecessary bloodshed will result in failure.

How can they have a pact? If they were to have the upper hand over you crewmates, they would have no respect for your alibi or friendship. They only talk to you in the meetings with faked smiles, but their hearts are in turmoil, their mind corrupted. And most of them pose risks of mutiny. They chose a fleeting gain over the grand objective, hindering the grand objective of the glorious. Evil indeed is what they have done!

The impostors do not honour the word of crewmates or their promises with the captain made at the start of the voyage. They are the sussy impostors. But if they report, rid themselves from the prison of their minds, and pay with their own blood, then they are crewmates in faith. Although they will still be ejected, they will go with a clear conscience and the crew will be aware. From now on, the meetings will need to be conducted with direct contact with home base. This is how the crew will make the impostors clear for the home base, and themselves.

After a few moments, Black finally speaks.

"Well, what are we supposed to do now?" He asks.

"I don't know. I suppose the only thing we can do is continue the construction of the airship," I say.

"We should report someone," Blue says. "This is a test! They'll know we're loyal if we..."

"If we do what?" Black interrupts. If we report someone without evidence, we’ll lose a potential crewmate. We're no safer by doing that."

"But we can't just let the sussy go on, can we?" Blue asks, clearly annoyed at Black.

"We have no idea what the impostor is. If we report him, who knows what he'll do? The sussy is dangerous, and we cannot afford to have impostors on board the airship." Blue argues. “We need to leave them at Polus.”

I don't know what I am to do. I know that I am the sussy impostor, but the crew can't let the impostor on the airship, and I am terrified of being left on a barren wasteland alone. But I cannot do anything about this situation without any evidence. I must accuse another crewmate of the sussy to ensure my own survival.

"I believe that we should not report unnecessarily, for we have too much to lose. We have lost white and yellow already. Continue the preparations for the airship. Let us see how this goes. If things get too bad, then we should be prepared to make sacrifices," I mention to Black.

He nods, and the two of us walk back to the central area to continue working. That evening, Orange approaches me. "I’ve been hearing rumours about you."

"Oh?" I ask, wondering what sort of rumours.

"They're saying that you're planning to betray the crew and do the sussy."

“So they say…” I muse, more to myself than to anyone, and silently draw my knife from my pocket. The glint of its cold, argent blade catches Orange’s eye, but before he could react, I raise the knife. The emotions overwhelm me and the voices in my head grow yet again to a deafening howl. This is it. My descent into the deep void, a step towards the final cause. I impale Orange in the chest, knocking him to the floor. The cowardly bastard doesn't even have the courage to look at me as he dies, his suit depressurising until the air surrounding us was covered in a fine red mist. Time to go.
