Chapter 38:
Blades of the Shattered Chaplets: 4th Novel
Kanji Adachi walked towards the sunset of the world, looking onwards at the beautiful sky.
Kanji: “A happy ending, huh? I don’t know if anything ever has a happy ending. We are just delaying the inevitable, Kazuki Alcion. You did not let people fix their own problems Or…am I too selfish to see beyond what could be happiness? Do I take my knowledge for granted? Should I have never wished for this in the first place? Am I the one ignoring change to begin with? I see. Maybe that is my answer. Change is rooted from within, but it takes time. However, I have observed that it can be forced onto others that question their beliefs. Is that the right answer, Kazuki? Is that what you tried to prove to me? What about those boys? Where is their future rooted now? Dante, Welpen, Ryoko, Saikou…What did you all have to give up? Agh! Is my answer not solidified? An Apple? How can it change colors so easily? How can the taste change so easily? Why did everyone despise the apple with a bite taken out of it? Is it not still an apple? Welpen and Astro, I truly believe that you two are the only ones that can change my mind still.”
Astro: “Huh? What the hell are you talking about, you freak. You said that you were going to get this city back to where it needed to be and here you are mumbling some nonsense. I’ve been looking all over for you and you turn off my shadow teleportation like always you idiot. Ronkon needs some help and I’m busy. Go help them you idiot. I got somewhere to be.”
Kanji turned around shocked, but his mind suddenly went blank and he didn’t think about that question anymore. He only thought of helping those in need at Ronkon and redoing the work that he had done to get it back to where it was before Kaibo destroyed it. “I guess I’ll find my answer eventually.” He smirked and laughed, not knowing why, but a sense of joy came over him as he moved forward to continue his work.
Above on the hill, Astro sat in front of his wife and daughter’s graves. Tears ran down his face as he spoke to them. “Silvia…Emi…I’m sorry. I love you both more than words can describe. Everyday I fight to not kill myself so I can see you both, but I know you’re looking down on me and rooting for me to continue on. My daughter, I will keep the promise that I made to you. My wife, my love. Wait for me. When I perish, I will hug you in my arms until the sun goes down.”
He wiped the tears from his eyes, stood up, and looked towards the sun with a burning passion in his eyes to carry on.
Years passed.
Dante gave birth to three kids with Aki and lived up in the mountains.
Aki: “Dante dear, can you go to the store with Goro? We need something for dinner.”
They headed off down the mountain with an energetic Goro.
Dante: “How about some broccoli?”
Goro: Blah! I hate vegetables!
Dante: “I know. I know, but we need vegetables to get strong.”
They both laughed and headed up the mountain when Goro suddenly didn’t feel so well.
Dante: “What’s wrong son?”
Goro: “Agh, my head.”
A familiar scene of deja vu popped into Dante’s mind with an image that he did not remember. His body shook and he became scared as the rain began to pour down hard, but then it lightened, and his son jumped up and started to laugh.
Goro: “Just kidding! I got you dad!”
Dante laughed hesitantly, but then forgot about what had just happened and smiled a happy smile.
He took his son’s hand and headed back up the mountain to his home where his wife and kids awaited them. He took her hand, looked her in the eyes, and repeated a familiar phrase to her.
Dante: “Flowers look gorgeous on you, my love.”
