Chapter 1:
THAT ONE GUY
"Thank you for coming to our establishment. How may I help you?"
Boring...
"Ehm... can I get chicken wings?"
Boring.....
"Sorry, ma'am, this is Fredwin's Pizza. We don't serve any chicken wings."
This job is so boring. I can't take it seriously.
"Oh, then could I get fish and chips?"
Especially with this kind of customer.
"Sorry, ma'am. This is the second time I said this. This is Fredwin's Pizza. Our only menu is pizza. You could order a different topping, but we are a pizza place. Not chicken nor fish."
I could see her face getting confused. I wanted to raise my voice, but she looked old. I couldn't possibly raise my voice to an elderly person. That's rude.
"Pizza?"
"Yes, ma'am. We are serving pizza, not chicken wings, not fish and chips. Pizza."
I tried my best to smile while serving this old lady. But then...
"Okay. May I have a Hot Dog?"
My temper had reached its boiling point.
"Excuse me, ma'am. Let me go to the back for a bit."
I turned my body away from her and walked straight to the kitchen.
"Oscar? What are you doing?" My boss reached out to me.
"Sorry, boss, can you take my place for me for a moment?"
"Oscar, you don't just ask your boss like that."
"I'm sorry, I just need a moment."
I reached the back door and opened it. I walked outside and screamed...
"FUUUUUUCK MY LIIIIIIIFE!"
I went back inside, and my boss was already in front of the door with his hands crossed.
"You got an annoying customer again, didn't you?"
"Oh, I wonder", I replied with a calming, yet angry tone.
My sympathetic boss embraced my shoulder and walked back to the middle of the kitchen. I calmly followed.
He whispered, "Listen here, Oscar. I know you had it rough, but if you keep doing this, I can't make you stay. I had to fire you."
The way he said fired was sending a chill down my spine.
"Can we talk about this?"
"We can, but first, serve the woman."
He patted my shoulder and went on to do his thing.
"I wish I were him. I don't want to hear people asking me to serve them. I want them to serve me."
After that, I properly did my job for five hours. That was a hell of a nightmare, and I was accepted to this job only three months ago.
It was six pm, and I got dismissed from my shift. I walked straight back to the house.
While on my way home, I got sidetracked and went to the park. It's been a while since I walked there by myself. It felt nostalgic for some reason, even though it's just a park.
"Huh? When I was eleven, I never traveled on this road. I wonder what's ahead."
Yeah, I was really getting sidetracked. I wanted to let out some fume while walking. It was refreshing, so I thought, "Why not continue?" The night was still long anyway.
"Hmm?"
I felt something around my neck.
"Why is my necklace vibrating? Does my necklace have some radiation, or something?"
I touched it, and it was still vibrating. In fact, it was getting frequent and stronger.
"What the...?"
Just then, I heard a voice. A woman's voice screaming.
"MAAASTEEEER!"
I looked up and saw eight beams coming towards me.
"Oh hell nah."
I quickly turned around and ran as fast as I could.
"What is this evening? Why the hell did I get chased by a fucking light?"
Skipped up and down. Dodged left and right. With my athletic skills, I went through the park road to the sidewalk with ease.
After that, I ran quickly back to my home. Well, an apartment, to be exact.
"Good evening, Mister..."
"Good evening, Miss Adel. Have a good one."
I could only say a bit of a sentence with my neighbour. Unless I wanted to get caught by the beam of light, I cut short the conversation with all of them.
I arrived at my door and tried to find my key.
"MAAASSSTTEEEER!"
"Hell no! I'm not anyone's master!"
After finding it, I quickly went inside before the light struck me.
"Safe by the door. Holy shit. What was that?"
I wouldn't say I'm safe for long, but for now, I am.
"What was that beam? That was crazy."
To end my day, I did my evening routine and went to bed. Before going to bed, however, I got the urge to stare at the sky through my window. I daydream a bit.
"Master, huh? Wouldn't that be cool, but there is no way in hell I want to have a light as my subordinate."
I closed my eyes for a little bit and breathed louder. I felt like wanting to inhale some air into my chest.
After I open my eyes, the light that chased me down appears in front of me through my window.
"There he is!"
I jumped back and landed butt first into the floor.
"Uwaaa! Stay away! Stay away!"
"... Are you sure he is the one, Iris? I mean, look at him! He is pathetic."
"Hmm... this might be one of those cases where our master forgot everything about us after reincarnation. I'm sure of it."
"Really? Should he be excited when I called out for him? He is our master after all."
"That's the case, Kio. He doesn't remember you. That's why he ran."
They... were having a conversation?
"Eh... how do lights have a voice like that? One of you sounds like a beautiful woman in her thirties."
Somehow, I can hear the awkwardness after I said that.
"Yup, that's him alright. He tried to flirt with you again, Iris. Just like he met you the first time."
"Well... welcome back, master. I didn't think you would say that again after we met the second time."
I was trying my best to process what just happened, but it was too complicated for my brain to handle.
"Ehm... Hi?"
Then, this Iris gal asked me something that left my mind completely blank.
"May we enter your body again, master? I think our energy drained a lot while trying to search for you in this new world."
"... Enter... My body? You guys can do that?"
"Through your necklace, yes."
"Oh... sure, I guess."
Without further warning, I got levitated, and the eight lights entered my body through my necklace. When my foot set back on the floor, all my mind started flowing with information.
"It's good to be back, master." I don't know how, but my brain heard that voice echoing inside. It sounded like Iris.
"YEAY. I'm glad you are back, master", not only her. I could hear the others, too. Somehow, I also know who this was. That was Kio.
"... Hmm, it seems like you're back to being useless again, huh?" This was Feadal. She sounded like a teenage girl with a problem.
"Uwaaaa, I'm so scared. I thought you're never going back, master", that was Harvey. She sounds so sweet.
"We are ready to serve you once again, my humble master", that was Hugo. And Jesus Christ, his voice was deep.
"We are happy you're back, master. I can't wait to serve you again", that was Jazxy. Somehow, he sounded like my local priest.
"Couldn't believe you actually back, master. I'm so happy to hear your voice again", that was Yuna. Her voice reminded me of my ex-girlfriend. Ugh, she's gonna be a nightmare.
"Nothing feels like home but your body, sir. Glad to be back", that was Frits. He sounded so calm.
"Yeah, hi. Nice to... meet you all", I didn't know how to address them, making me stumble my words. "So, you said you guys knew me, huh? Mind if I ask about me? Do you know my name?"
Everyone shouted, making my mind feel bloated, "Hero Summoner Oscar!"
Oscar? Their master's name was the same as mine? How?
"Eh... and how do you guys think I'm your master?"
"You have red messy hair, and your eyes were beaming with crimson light", Iris said, "No doubt it was you. Not to mention, you also kept the summoner gear on your neck."
"Summoner... gear?" I asked with awe, "This thing is a powerful device? How the hell did my dad find this? This is a gift from my dad, back when I celebrated my twentieth birthday."
Everyone was surprised, and silence occurred. In that very moment, things got awkward.
"Master, may I ask you a question?" Feadel said.
"Yes...?"
"You didn't happen to be a human man in his twenties, right? You're a teen, right?" She sounded very disappointed.
"Ehm... I'm currently twenty-five. Why?"
Somehow, I could feel a letdown from everyone hearing my statement.
Kio with anthusias said, "Don... Don't worry, master! I know you will develop your Mana Surge faster this time around! I'm sure you have developed it before reaching twenty, yeah?"
"Mana... Surge?" My question about Mana Surge was making everyone feel depressed.
Jazxy said with a serious tone, "Looks like we have to teach our new master from the very beginning."
Everyone except me said, "True", in agreement.
