"Sir! 3 S-class Flash-gates have been reported! In South Africa alone!" A uniformed man ran into the office of Sbusiso Khumalo, the head of the South African Rangers Association, panic written all over his face. "As for globally... S-class Flash gates have been reported from more then 20 different countries."
The President grit his teeth, a sombre expression upon his face. This issue was undoubtedly giving him grey hairs. It was expected, since this was probably the greatest global catastrophe since the first gate.
"What's the feedback of our S-class rangers?" He asked, as he leaned on his elbow, his brows furrowed. A quick response from the S-class rangers was the only solution. It was the only way to stop and control the chaos.
"Justin Pillay, and Buhle Sithole of the Grey Guardian guild have responded to the Joburg gate. The eagles is providing them support. The gate which appeared in Durban, is being covered by Alden Hall of the Moon guild, and Sarah Foster. Ramiel and Light King of the Caledon have yet to respond."
"And the Cape Town Flash-Gate?"
The employee nervously rubbed the back of his head.
"Andre Jacobs said to leave him alone. He said, "Tell that old-man Sbusiso to stop telling me what to do. I know what my job is, damnit!"
The president was stunned into silence, before he chuckled, and stood from his table.
"Hehe, he hasn't changed, huh? Assemble our squads. Let's go support the Grey Guardian guild.'
~~
The sky was dark.
It was like the light had been squeezed out of it, leaving it drenched in darkness. At the centre of this darkness, was a vast and abysmal hole. It's form covered the sun, filling the streets of Durban with darkness.
The activity on the streets paused, as the people raised their heads toward the impending cataclysm.
For a few moments, there was a chilling silence.
Then it came.
Like a gate out of some hell, monsters began to pour forth. Not dozens, or hundreds, or even thousands. The monsters that came out seemed to number tens of thousands.
Screams filled the streets, as people began to flee. Drivers abandoned their cars, and mothers grabbed their children, as they tried to escape the vicinity.
As the streets cleared, a little boy and girl ran at the very end of the crowd.
"Come on!" The boy shouted at his sister, as he pulled her along, leading the way. He looked behind him, to see humanoid bats draw closer. He gasped, and began to run faster.
"Ah!" The girl tripped, her little body falling to the ground.
"Sarah! The boy stopped, and tried to help her up. However, the moment he stopped, a monster landed before him, throwing up dust as it landed.
SCREECH!
It opened its jaws, revealing rows of sharp canines. Saliva dripped down it's jaws, and it's fierce gaze fell on the children.
The boy came in front of his sister, his arms outstretched. He could feel his body trembling. He was scared. The monster was huge... and scary. He was small and weak.
Despite that...
The boy raised his gaze defiantly. He would protect his sister.
The monster screeched angrily, and pounced. The boy closed his eyes, and flinched...
However, nothing happened. He felt no pain, nothing. Was he already dead?
"You can open your eyes now." Someone said.
The boy opened his eyes. Before him, standing on the corpse of the monster, was a young man. Blue energy whirled around him, and his hair danced in the air.
The boy smiled with relief.
"Alden Hall"
~~
"That's a lot of monsters." Alden said as he watched the boy run off with his sister. Then, he jumped off the monsters corpse.
"Will we handle it alone." A voice came from behind him. He turned to see Sarah Foster behind him.
"Of course." He replied, he put his hands in his pockets. "Whether it's difficult or not depends on how many S-class monsters appear."
Sarah Foster stood beside him. They both looked at the abundant armies before them. Sarah turned to him, her eyebrow raised.
"That is is an entire army, you know?"
"So?" Alden said. "I have an army."
Suddenly, blue, smoke-like energy spread behind Alden, filling the streets. Every one looked, the smoke was there. Then, figures began to rise from it.
Dragons, orcs, wolves, and even yetis... all types of creatures appeared. In the last 6 months, Alden hadn't rested. He had cleared more then 10 hidden dungeons, amassing this huge army.
There was little to fear.
Alden turned. Right behind him, stood his strongest soldiers. From them was Mar Kirr, his trusted advisor. His two dragons Ash, Bizarro. The colossal snake he had named Red-fang. The crab-like centaur whom he'd acquired in a recent mission, where he had to fight monsters in a sea. That difficult mission gave him a water -based skill. There were one or two other new monsters, who were all at S-class, or close. With them, this mission would be a breeze.
"Go!"
At his command, the army attacked. The dragons soared into the sky, toward the portal. The others charged forward, towards the creatures who had landed before them.
The monsters consisted of bat-like humanoid creatures, similar to the one killed by Alden. The others were ashen skinned humanoid creatures with bat wings, and they seemed to possess some intelligence. The monsters poured forth, and a fierce battle began.
The frontrunners of Alden's army met the monsters. Mar Kirr at the forefront. He raised his sword, clearing a bloody path. The giant serpent slithered through the mass, leaving a bloody trail in it's wake.
"So, when do we join?" Sarah asked, her gaze on the occurring battle.
"You can feel it, don't you?" His gaze stayed forward. "That powerful energy. It hasn't appeared yet, but our opponent has not yet appeared."
Sarah nodded. It was true. An oppressive presence remained, despite all of the monsters that appeared. It was clear that enemy was possibly superior to them individually. After all, this monster made him feel like how he had felt in his first dungeon mission, when he was barely E or D rank, and he stood before Light McKing. In short, this would be a tough fight.
However, he was ready.
Then, the owner of that oppressive energy showed themself.
Descending upon them like some angel of death, was a robed figure. His robes danced in the air, and glowing red eyes looked down upon them. As he neared, the aura increased.
Alden smirked. Now, the battle had begun.
