Memories of a Little Angel : 2 (Interlude)

“One day, I’m going to show you the whole world, Yalda. There’s so much to it, and I want you to see it all and know what you’ll be protecting one day.”

“But daddy, I can see all of Elysium from here in the garden. It takes up the whole sky.”

“I meant the surface world. There’s all sorts of people there with all kinds of dreams driving them forward. They’re all so unique.”

“Dreams? What kind of dreams, daddy?”

“It’s different for everyone. Some people dream of being rich and famous, others dream of starting a family… It’s one of the things that make people what they are. Without dreams, what do we live for?”

“What’s my dream?”

“Well, Yalda, what do you want?”

“Hmm…”

“Anything come to mind?”

“I want to be cool like you, daddy!”

“Cool like me? Gosh, I’m not that cool.”

“No, you're really awesome! You make so many great inventions and stuff that helps everyone! Maybe my dream is to help people, like you do.”

“Well, if you want to be like your old dad, make sure to eat your vegetables and keep learning. And most importantly, always be kind, Yalda. That last one will make you much better than me, actually.”

“Kind…”

“As long as you keep kindness in your heart, nothing will ever take that dream away from you. And believe me, people will try. But you're my daughter, and I know you’ll fight with everything you have… Just like you fight me to go to bed at a reasonable hour.”

“How can I sleep when we could be playing together? Think of all the time we’re wasting with our eyes closed!”

“And how will you get the energy to play if you don’t rest every once in a while?”

“O-oh… I guess that makes sense.”

“How about I add another thing to the dream list? Rest well.”
