Chapter 9:

VS the Tin Man

Dark Fables of Void V2 — Quantum Mix

Kairy already had transformed her arm into the gem-blade, and Alice used her Miracle Eyes to shift her vision to the gamma ray spectrum to find any weak spots in the figure's armor.

The figure's eyes narrow as it scans each of the girls, a hint of caution in its mechanical gaze.

Kinsey notices the shift in the figure's demeanor and decides to take the initiative. "You may have the size and the strength, but we've got brains and skills on our side."

Meanwhile, Alice continues to scan the figure's form, her eyes darting across its metallic exterior, searching for any vulnerabilities.

The figure seems intrigued by Kinsey's words, its eyes flicking back to her. "Brains and skills..." it echoes, its droning voice taking on a different undertone.

Rachel notices the shift in the figure's attention and decides to take advantage. "Damn right. Brains, skills, and a whole lot of determination. We're a force to be reckoned with, you mechanical..." she pauses, searching for an appropriate insult.

Kinsey cuts in with a smirk, "Metallic bucket of bolts," she suggests, her tone tinged with dry humor.

The figure seems to process the insult, its form creaking with what could almost be a mechanical scoff. "Bucket of bolts? How... imaginative."

Alice finds a nick in the figure's armor, her vision shifting from gamma ray back to visible light. "Kairy, stick your blade right there, under his knee.”

Kairy quickly follows Alice's advice, maneuvering her gem-blade into position under the figure's leg, targeting the weak spot that Alice had identified.

The figure realizes the girls' plan, its eyes narrowing. "You're...resourceful. Not as...naive...as I thought," it admits, its droning voice reflecting a hint of respect.

Kinsey smirks, taking pride in their resourcefulness. "Damn right, we are. Never underestimate the power of a determined mind and some quick thinking."

Rachel lets out a chuckle, the adrenaline pumping through her veins. "We've got brains, skills, determination, and a whole lot of audacity. You're about to find out just how dangerous that combo can be."

Rachel pulled out a pistol, aiming for that same weak spot Alice pointed out.

The figure eyes the gun with a mixture of wariness and curiosity. "Guns...are you even old enough to carry?”

Rachel's smirk turns into a full-blown glare, her voice dripping with annoyance. "Oh, please. I'm 17, it's just the twintails throwin’ ya off. That's old enough to kick your metal ass, thank you very much."

Meanwhile, Kairy carefully maneuvers her gem-blade deeper into the weak point, aiming to disable the figure's leg completely.

The figure's form tenses as Kairy's blade pierces its leg, its metal frame groaning with an ominous sound. "Impressive... precision," it grumbles, its droning voice betraying a hint of pain.

Rachel's smirk returns, relishing in the success of their attack. "That's what happens when you underestimate us, metal man.”

The figure's leg buckles under the weight of the attack, its metallic frame creaking louder. "You...caught me off guard," it admits reluctantly, its voice now tinged with a hint of pain.

Kinsey, seeing the figure's weakened state, takes advantage of the moment. "Looks like you're not as invincible as you thought, eh?”

The figure's form creaks as it attempts to stand, its mechanical whirrings growing more strained. "A moment...of weakness," it admits, its voice now slightly more labored.

Rachel's smirk turns up a notch, her gun still trained on the figure. "That's what happens when you underestimate women."

Kairy, sensing the figure's increasing instability, presses harder with her gem-blade, aiming to completely disable the leg.

The figure lets out a guttural groan as Kairy's blade digs deeper, its leg now completely immobilized. "Impressive... determination..." the figure grits out, its voice now heavily strained.

Rachel lets out a scoff. "Damn right, it is. We're not going down without a fight, metal man.”

Kinsey smirks, savoring the sight of the crippled robot. "You may be big and intimidating, but you're not invincible, metal man. You've met your match with us."

The figure's voice now sounds more strained, labored, and pained. "You..." it gasps, its form creaking under the weight of its own crippled leg.

Rachel lets out a low whistle, her tone mocking. "Looks like we've really put you through the wringer, huh, metal man? You look... a bit worse for wear."

Kairy keeps her gem-blade firmly in place, not letting up the pressure. "We've got you good and cornered now, don't we?”

The figure attempts to move, its metallic frame creaking loudly in protest. "Ins... insolent... humans," it manages to grit out, its voice now pain-filled and strained.

Kairy steps closer, her smirk growing cockier. "First of all, I'm not a human—notice my ears? My eyes? How about my hair and bones made of gems? And second of all, 'insolent', huh? We prefer tenacious. We don't give up, not even against big metal hulks like you.”

The figure's eyes narrow, its form shifting with discomfort. "How... stubborn.... of you..." it manages to grumble, its voice now even more labored.

Kinsey can't resist chiming in, her smirk widening. "That's rich, coming from a metal brick like you. You're the one with a giant hole in your leg. I'd say we're holding our own pretty damn well.”

The figure lets out another pain-filled groan. "Your...determination..." it manages to murmur, its voice now tinged with hints of grudging admiration.

Rachel chuckles, her gun still pointed at the figure's chest. "That's right. Determination, tenacity, resourcefulness... we've got it all. And we're not going down without a fight."

Kairy leans in closer, her gem-blade still firmly lodged in the figure's leg. "You've got some fight in ya', but you're not winning this one, metal man.”

The figure's form grows more unstable, its metallic frame creaking louder with each movement. "Stubborn... fools...." it grumbles, its voice now laced with pain and frustration.

Kinsey can't help but smirk. "Oh, we're stubborn, alright. And we're not the ones lying on the ground with a hole in our leg, are we?"

"Not for long," the figure shot back. It grabbed Kairy, tearing her blade from the hole before beginning to transform.

The girls back away, their eyes widening in disbelief. "W-What the hell is happening...?" Rachel whispers, her voice tinged with fear and confusion.

Kinsey's grip on her knife tightens, her eyes fixed on the transforming robot. "I've never seen anything like this before...what is it even turning into..?" she murmurs

The transformation continues, the robot's form growing larger, more powerful. The once crippled leg now morphs into a massive, mechanical leg with heavy armor plating.

Seconds later, the transformation finishes, the robot now standing before them in a new, more menacing form. Its metallic frame is now heavily armored, its limbs fortified with thick plates. Its once crippled leg is now fully operational, now even more imposing and more powerful..
