Chapter 10:
Love plus Chaos equals Family!
Cohabitation:
What follows are An Mei’s diary entries for the duration of Li Jing’s stay at Li Wei and An Mei’s apartment. I have edited out those parts of the diary that have no bearing on the current story.
Day 0 (Sunday):
Jing-jie started staying at our place today.
Both Weiwei and Jing-jie loved my dish during lunch. I should remember to thank Mom the next time I call her. Maybe I should send some of it to Jingjing as well. Her dormmates would love it.
In the afternoon we played some boardgames. Jing-jie was very funny and charming. I am happy to see that she is recovering quickly from her bad experience.
After dinner we watched a rom-com that Jing-jie suggested. She said it was made by one of her friends. It was great. I should watch more movies from this director. Maybe I will get some new ideas.
And about Weiwei’s problem, I am really proud of him. I don’t fully understand what he did, but when I searched the internet, I found that it’s a very important problem in both mathematics and physics. Weiwei says he didn’t fully solve it, but from what I understand, it was still a groundbreaking achievement. I wonder if they will give my Weiwei the Nobel prize. Is he too young for that?
We should hold a celebration for him. I will talk to Jing-jie; she might have some ideas. But now, my handsome genius is calling me to bed. I need to show him the… appreciation that I promised him earlier.
Day 1 (Monday):
Jing-jie slept in until 11. She must have been really exhausted by yesterday’s events. Anyone would have been. After she woke up, I talked to her about celebrating Weiwei solving the problem. She was excited and made a few calls.
She told me that the water pressure in the guest bathroom was too low for her taste. I let her use our bathroom.
Half an hour later her assistants brought us some decorations, a big cake, gifts for Weiwei (there were so many, and all so expensive), and seven big suitcases of her clothes. Apparently those are just her outfits for this week. She has a new one for every day. My entire wardrobe isn’t even half as big as that.
I wish I was Jing-jie’s size; then I could wear the clothes she doesn’t use anymore. I feel sad.
After the assistants left, we decorated the apartment. It was quite fun. Jing-jie can be a bit bossy, but I didn’t mind.
I spent the rest of the afternoon finishing the draft of my 8th chapter. Jing-jie was doing some video conferences in the guest bedroom. It’s nice to see her working. It will help her get her mind off of things.
When Weiwei came home in the evening, he was completely surprised. We had lots of fun. It was a great celebration, and Weiwei was very happy.
The cake was really delicious. It was from the same bakery Na-jie took me to a couple of months ago. I should visit it again and maybe send some cakes to Mom and Dad. Dad will love it.
At the end of the celebration Jing-jie drank too much and ate a lot of cake. She cried a lot; we had to console her.
She threw up after that.
I should give Weiwei a present too. His scarf is looking a little shabby these days. Maybe I will knit him a new one.
My brilliant Professor is already asleep. It must have been an intense day for him. I am going to join him soon. I could use a nice cuddle.
Day 2 (Tuesday):
I got a text from Da-jie early in the morning. She asked me about Jing-jie. I assured her that everything was okay and that Jing-jie was quickly recovering from the breakup. She told me to call her if something happened. She always worries.
When I was texting with Da-jie, I heard Weiwei and Jing-jie shouting in the living room. Apparently Jing-jie had used up Weiwei’s shampoo. She said that she just wanted to try it out. She has nearly 15 bottles of her own. She called a Weiwei ‘dramatic princess’ which made him even more angry. Weiwei isn’t dramatic, but it’s a cute nickname. I let Weiwei use mine.
Weiwei was grumbling throughout breakfast. He even forgot to kiss me when he left. But he ran back and did it. He looked flustered. It was funny.
I started going through the draft of my 8th chapter. There were so many errors. Being a writer is hard.
Jing-jie did a marathon of sad dramas. I had to use my headphones. I joined her after lunch.
When Weiwei came home, we were both crying on the couch. He was really shocked until we explained that we were just watching dramas.
Jing-jie wanted steak for dinner. It was delicious. She praised our cooking.
After dinner Weiwei wanted to watch a documentary about the World War. Jing-jie wanted to watch more dramas. They fought with the remote for a little while.
We watched dramas. Weiwei complained about plot holes the entire time, even more than usual. It was slightly annoying, but pouting Weiwei is very cute.
Last night we just cuddled since we were both tired. Hopefully tonight will be different. I am in the mood. Looks like he is too. He is already taking his shirt off.
Day 3 (Wednesday):
Terrible day.
I did not wake up in the loving arms of my husband but in the guest bedroom, beside my sister-in-law. As pretty as Jing-jie is, this is not what I wanted.
Last night, just as things were heating up in our bedroom, a terrible scream echoed throughout the apartment. A few moments later we heard frantic knocking on the bedroom door. Jing-jie was standing outside looking scared, as if she was about to cry.
She told us that she had a nightmare about all of her exes teaming up and starting a rock band, and Hua-jie chasing her on horseback for being a disgrace to the family. She asked me if I could sleep with her in the guest bedroom tonight.
Weiwei looked like a sad puppy; it broke my heart. But I couldn’t say no to Jing-jie when she was in such a state.
This was the first time Weiwei and I slept in different rooms since we moved in together. I missed him.
Jing-jie snores a lot.
Weiwei kissed me for longer than usual when he went to work. It was nice. I wouldn’t mind this being our official goodbye kiss length.
Today I did not take any chances. I wrote in Weiwei’s home office. I continued editing Chapter 8. What was I thinking with some of these lines? It’s so terrible. I might have to rewrite this entire chapter.
In the afternoon Jing-jie went next door to hang out with Mrs. Zhang. I don’t know what a celebrity supermodel executive and Mrs. Zhang can have in common, and I am afraid to ask.
When Jing-jie was out, I got a call from Hua-jie. She said that Jing-jie wasn’t picking up her calls. Hua-jie shouted at me (she was complaining about Jing-jie’s exes). It was terrifying. I fear for Gao Feng’s life.
We watched dramas after dinner. Weiwei didn’t resist today. He didn’t even complain. He just snuggled up to me.
Just as we were all heading to our bedrooms, Jing-jie stopped me and asked if I wanted to spend the night with her again. She said that she enjoyed having me there yesterday and we could watch and discuss more dramas. It would be like a sleepover.
Weiwei immediately held on to my hand and screamed at his sister that I was going nowhere with her tonight.
Even though I enjoyed talking about dramas with Jing-jie, I wanted to spend the night with my Weiwei. But before I could reject her offer, Jing-jie grabbed my other hand and told Weiwei that it was not his decision to make.
Weiwei yelled that it wasn’t Jing-jie’s decision either.
Jie asked me who I wanted to be with. My husband, who gets to see me every day, or my sad and lonely sister-in-law, who raised my husband since he was a baby and who is only here for a few days to get over her grief.
I felt like the female lead in those dramas trying to decide between the male lead and the second male lead.
I am sorry Weiwei.
Jing-jie is waiting to show me a video of her with the crew of the drama we just watched.
I hope Weiwei can hold on.
Day 4 (Thursday):
Weiwei decided that he was going to ignore his sister. During breakfast he acted as if she didn’t exist. Jing-jie, not one to be triumphed over, did the same. Both of them spoke only to me the entire time. It was awkward and weird.
Once Weiwei left for university, Jing-jie took me shopping. It was both exhilarating and terrifying as always. We had to use the VIP entrances to avoid crowds and her fans. And her assistants and security detail were always around.
She looked absolutely amazing in everything she tried on, but she was more interested in dressing me up.
I don’t even remember how many outfits I tried. Some of them were quite risqué for me, but she insisted. I have to admit that it was quite a lot of fun.
I rejected many of the clothes she chose for me, but she would not compromise on the mini skirt. She said that I looked too cute in it, and made me wear it for the rest of the afternoon.
I admit, it’s a big ego boost to be called ‘cute’ by ‘The Goddess’.
After shopping we went to a spa and got a nice and relaxing massage. It felt wonderful. Later we had lunch at one of Wu Long Group’s Michelin stared restaurants.
All in all it was an fantastic afternoon.
When Weiwei came home, his jaw dropped upon seeing me in the mini skirt. He was utterly thrilled. Jing-jie wasted no time in taking credit for making me look cute.
I admit that I liked the mini-skirt, and Weiwei’s reaction was utterly adorable. But I don’t know if I will wear it. It doesn’t fit my style. Maybe, I will keep it for special occasions.
Na-jie called me in the evening. She asked me if everything was going alright with Jing-jie and asked how she was doing. I told her about our shopping trip. Na-jie told me to take care of myself and told me to say ‘no’ to Jing-jie if she ever became too much. I didn’t tell her about the past few days.
Jing-jie did not let us cook dinner. She banned us from the kitchen and took over. I had never tasted her cooking before. Whenever we went to her place, it was usually the maids who cooked for us.
And, it was delightful. I could not believe how good of a cook she is. Everything was seasoned to perfection, and the taste was just divine. She told me that it was their mother’s recipe, and promised to share it with me.
Weiwei didn’t say anything at first. But in the middle of the meal he started crying. He was reminded of his mom’s cooking. Both of us hugged him. Jie cried as well. I might have cried too. It was a very emotional moment.
Jing-jie even let Weiwei choose the program tonight.
After dinner she agreed to let Weiwei have me for the night, but asked that tomorrow night I sleep with her in the guest bedroom. Both Weiwei and I agreed quickly. We were just happy to spend time together without having to start a fight.
Weiwei is waiting. He looks as cute as always. I think he just wants to cuddle tonight. I want the same. I just want to hold him and be close to him.
Day 5 (Friday):
After the upheavals of the past couple of days, there was finally peace in the house.
Breakfast was delightful. Jing-jie was back to being her usual cheery self. Weiwei was smiling.
Yue-jie texted me and told me that she hacked into and deleted all of Gao Feng’s email and gaming accounts. Serves him right.
Jing-jie did my makeup. I felt pretty.
I have started rewriting Chapter 8. I think this version is much better.
On my way to the supermarket, I met the cutest kitty. I sent her photos to everyone.
Na-jie sent me a photo of Bobo wearing a banana peel as a crown.
Hua-jie asked for more pictures and told me to never reveal that she did. Her secret is safe with me.
It was turning out to be the best day ever.
When I returned home, I saw the elderly Mrs. Zhang from next door and her ancient dog General Baobao, looking at our apartment door. I asked her what’s going on. She told me that she heard screaming.
And then I heard it. My wonderful, sweet, and peaceful husband screaming at the top of his lungs. “Ahhh! I am going to kill you! You demon!”
