Chapter 11:

Chapter 11

Poem_of_Death

A few moments later the door opens again. A woman in a white nurse outfit comes inside. She has deep eyebags… Now that I mention it, the man has eyebags as well.. Though they are not nearly as deep. This is probably the assistant he mentioned.

“...greetings.” The woman looks at me. She has short, light-blonde hair and doesn’t look very friendly. Whereas Doctor Itu looks weird and kind of eerie, she just looks pissed. This is probably one of the side effects of being a nurse…

“Ah, Greetings Miss Haruka.” The doctor smiles at her, then he turns to me. “This is Miss Oyama Haruka. She is my assistant and the head - well, only - nurse here. She is also responsible for the Medicine lessons here. Isn’t her outfit cute and pretty? It was me who designed it!”

It was most certainly not him who designed it. It was the typical nurse outfit I have known my whole life… And while he does look old, I don’t think the guy is old enough to have originally designed the most basic of all uniforms.

Miss Haruka, looking even more pissed after Itu was talking, picks up two candles and looks at them.

“Miss Haruka, this here is Mister Isuri Bakuko. He is new here and - just like I, your great boss - a Blessed chosen by Miss Death.”

Wait a second-

“Isuri Bakuko?” She looks at me and her eyes become even thinner. She has probably just remembered… I wish Doctor Itu would have remembered as well!

“You are the new kid who skipped class on his very first day…” She looks at me, a bit pissed off. Then she stands up and turns around.

“Well, I’ll get going then. I believe your behaviour to have consequences. We will learn of those exact consequences once I have talked to Miss Masuyo…”

She wants to get going… Damnit! Doctor Itu, how could you back-stab me so hard?! This was truly a cruel turn of events…. Anyway, I have to do something! I can’t just go around getting into trouble on my very first day here…

“Wait a second, Miss Haruka. I believe we can find a compromise here.” The doctor was grinning. “Mister Bakuko here will do some work for us. In exchange, we will not tell our dear Miss Masuyo of the events of today.” He continued grinning at her. The nurse sighed and held her head. “Very well… Then we will do that. What task do you deem fitting for him?”

“We will have him gather some Tengu Blood.”

Before I knew it, Miss Haruka had escorted me around. She told me to follow her and so I did. We were outside soon enough and Miss Haruka went straight to a small field of sand on which a group of people my age were… Probably my peers. One of them is sitting on the side. He seems to have hurt his leg pretty badly… It really does look gross. Miss Haruka takes the candle, holds it next to the wound and blows against the fire of the candle. That same fire seems to dive deep into the wound. It really does look painful… Despite that, the student - if I went to class I would have probably known his name by now - begins snickering and laughing. It seems like the fire tickles him. Then Miss Haruka pulls the candle back. The flame is extinguished… but so is the wound. The wound which has just plagued the leg a few moments ago has fully vanished. Miss Haruka looks around and seems to talk to the rest. Then, she puts the other candle down on the ground and blows against it a bit. Then she comes back to me, her eyes still looking tired and - sorry for the language, but there is no better way to describe it - pissed.

“Very well… Let’s go.”

She goes on. And after a few moments we actually arrive at some kind of wooden building. Miss Haruko looks at me. “Stay here.” She then goes inside. A few moments later she leaves the building again, this time having a horse with her.

The horse stands in front of us. With a little jump, she is on top of the horse.

“Okay, you get ready as well. I want to get this over with quickly.” I nod, then I saddle up behind her. Since the saddle is not really big enough for the of us, I just sit there awkwardly.

“You might want to hold onto me… We will ride fast. Like I said, I want this to be over quickly.”

We start. And after only a few seconds I realize that she was not lying in the slightest. We are traveling really fast… Did this nurse have no concern for our lives?! I hold onto her. If I didn’t I would probably fall off and hurt myself.

We are traveling really fast. I originally wanted to talk with her about… something, I guess. I never really had a plan, but I did expect some kind of talking… Well, doesn’t seem like it.

After around 10 minutes we arrive at the foot of a mountain. The horse stops abruptly. Miss Haruka is extremely calm again, whereas I am caught off-guard and cling even harder to her. I then quickly let go of her.

“Uhh… Is this it?” She looks at me like she’s just seen a ghost.

“Ah. So that is what your voice sounds like.”

Okay, it isn’t just Doctor Itu. His assistant was weird as well.
