The village of Isuri Bankoku suddenly gets destroyed and Lady Death herself stands before him. She grants him mysterious powers, then leaves while reminding him of his unavoidable death.
Isuri leaves his ruined village behind and searches for a new place to live while reevaluating the worth of his own life and the ultimate fate that is death. In the wide world, filled by dangerous Yokai and people blessed with magic, he ends up realizing the powers Lady Death has granted him with and tries to come to terms with them and his trauma at an academy for people like him.
