Chapter 8:
The Cartoon Kid: Shard Hunt.
2:40 p.m. — Guardian's Chamber
The portal shimmered open, as Kira and Decibolt stepped through. Both were dusted with the faint, powdery residue of a defeated summon—yellow smoke still clinging to their jackets.
Hakim glanced up from a glowing console. "Another summon dissolves into yellow smoke. That's the tenth this week."
Kira brushed soot from her sleeve. "The number of summoners has really increased."
Hakim nodded grimly. "But we've defeated every one that came our way—plus the shards collected from citizens. We'll revive Theo before you know it."
The Guardian turned, his robe glittering faintly in the ambient crystal light. "This is the first time you two entered without arguing. Could it be... you're becoming friends?"
Hakim scoffed loudly. "I'd rather befriend a crystal hound."
"Whatever you say," the Guardian replied with a tired smile. "At least your teamwork has improved. Since you've both worked so hard, how about taking the rest of the day off?"
Kira crossed her arms. "It won't feel like a day off if I still have to see him."
The Guardian sighed. "Just when I thought you'd eased up on the sarcasm."
Before either could return fire, they stepped inside a portal and vanished.
Kira's House
Hakim stood in the tiny kitchen, staring unimpressed at a small basket of freshly picked vegetables.
"I can't believe this is all the food you have. Veggies from your micro-sized garden?"
"You're welcome to expand it," Kira replied, flipping her hair. "I never did because I had school and, you know, a life. But since you basically do nothing all day, go ahead."
Hakim tapped his chin. "You know... that's actually not a bad idea. And I have the perfect crystal for the job."
A Few Minutes Later
Hakim stood before the Guardian's garden, sunlight sliding across the rows of crops like warm paint.
He crouched, reading each label aloud as he walked the line.
"Carrots... tomatoes... ginger... onions... sweet pepper... mango."
He huffed. "First I need to get all these plants out of the way. For a human, this would be hard labor. But for a Crystal Cadet, it's a piece of cake."
He stomped once. A sharp sonic pulse rippled through the soil.
Every plant launched out of the ground at perfect height. Hakim pivoted, kicking each one swiftly into a waiting wheelbarrow with neat, acrobatic precision. Dirt still clung to their roots.
"The soil on them should help them survive," he muttered, brushing his hands off.
His gaze shifted to the wooden framework enclosing the small garden plot.
"Now to get rid of this horrible framework."
He grabbed one edge and tore the entire wooden frame apart like it was paper, tossing the planks aside in a messy pile.
"Much better. More space."
He reached into his pocket and withdrew a crystal that glimmered with soft, earthy hues. He planted it into the center of the plot and whispered in Crystonian:
"Hehroe Mialer Iohirens."
The crystal pulsed once.
Then the ground erupted upward, expanding the soil until the garden was three times its original size. The earth settled like a living creature exhaling.
Hakim carefully returned each plant to the soil, spacing them neatly. He placed a second crystal beside them.
"Zaiej Uihoa Jufasha."
A warm glow swept over the garden. The plants grew instantly—fuller, healthier, vibrant with enriched nutrients. Their numbers multiplied as well, the garden thickening with life.
Hakim stepped back, admiring his handiwork.
"That should do it."
Before he could even reach for the wheelbarrow, the Guardian's voice buzzed from his comm device, calm but urgent.
"Summoning activity report to the Guardian's chamber
Hakim groaned loudly. "Our day off lasted, what... one hour?"
He opened a portal, its crystalline surface swirling with faint blue light.
"Fantastic," he muttered, stepping through with resigned annoyance as the portal snapped shut behind him.
In the Guardian's Chamber
The crystalline doors slid open with a soft hum as Kira and Decibolt stepped inside. The chamber glowed with its usual serene blue light, though the Guardian's expression made it clear serenity was not on today's schedule.
The Guardian turned toward them.
"There's been a break-in in Córdoba, Argentina. The intruders stole a shard."
Kira let out a breath that was half-groan, half-resignation.
"Looks like our day off has been cut short."
Decibolt shrugged, already cracking his knuckles.
"Not surprised. Trouble seems to run on our timetable."
The Guardian gestured toward the portal circle.
"You two know what to do."
Kira and Decibolt exchanged a quick nod before stepping through, disappearing into the distortion.
Argentina Cordoba
The street was alive with chaos. Two robbers were loading stolen goods into an armored truck using summons—hulking beasts made of shimmering energy—while another robber stood guard.
As Kira and Decibolt stepped out of a portal, the guard stiffened.
Decibolt clicked his tongue. "We interrupt our day off for some low-life robbers."
"Take the truck and go!" Robber Three shouted. "I'll hold them off!"
The others sped away. Kira tensed.
"We have to go after them," she said.
Robber Three wagged a finger. "Nope. Your focus stays right here. Me... and my summon. Digi Blade!"
A flare of yellow smoke erupted. A male summon materialized, his body scanning with flickering binary code.
"Digi suit—digitize!"
Light pulsed across his form until a green armored suit snapped into existence—sleek, angular, razor-sharp.
"Combat power is 616 and he's a tech based summon"
Decibolt cracked his knuckles. "Let's beat this summon into yellow smoke so I can go back to relaxing."
He surged forward, fists flying, but Digi Blade evaded every strike. A sudden jump-kick caught Decibolt in the chest, slamming him onto his back. A faint streak of blood trickled from his lip.
"Are you gonna fight me or what?"
Six sonic discs spiraled from his hands. Digi Blade raised both palms—binary code stitched itself into twin glowing blades. With swift movements, he deflected each disc.
He sprinted toward Decibolt, leapt, and slashed downward.
"Deci Shield!" Decibolt shouted.
The shield materialized, ringing with force as the blades collided and shattered into green pixels.
Decibolt smirked. "Is that all?"
But Digi Blade vaulted off the shield, redigitized his blades midair, kicked off a wall, and struck Decibolt across the back. The hero crashed to the pavement, armor cracking.
"Your turn," Digi Blade taunted.
He hurled blades from multiple angles. Kira countered with two Kinetic Punches, shattering the projectiles. But Digi Blade used the distraction—he rushed her and slashed across her side.
Kira hit the ground hard, sliding several meters. A thin line of blood trailed from her cheek.
Decibolt roared. "Okay, now I'm mad—Sonic Pulse Blast!"
The attack thundered through the air, but Digi Blade weaved past it and charged again.
"Deci Shield!"
This time, the blades didn't break.
Decibolt's eyes widened. "How—?"
"Every time I redigitize my blades," Digi Blade said, striking rapidly, "they come back stronger. Everything resets when I detransform—but until then, they only get deadlier."
His relentless blows shattered the shield entirely. A kick knocked Decibolt flat.
Kira lunged. "HAAAA!"
Her fist connected with Digi Blade's chin, splitting his lip. He staggered.
"Gravitational Kinesis Attack IV: Cyclonic Gravity!"
A spiraling gravitational surge slammed Digi Blade into the street.
He grunted. "Urgh..."
Then he sprang into motion—jumping off walls, leaving inconspicuous devices behind with each impact.
Decibolt frowned. "What was that for?"
"Just watch and see."
He pressed a button. The devices glowed green—digitizing blades that erupted like shrapnel toward them.
"This is still not enough to stop us!" Kira said, weaving between the blades.
"Full Body Repulsion!"
A concussive blast destroyed the blades and devices—unfortunately hurling Decibolt backward as well.
He flipped midair, landing on a wall. "Saw that coming. NOW TAKE THIS!"
He fired a Deci Cannon. Digi Blade crossed his blades; they shattered instantly, sending him skidding back.
"Gigantic Sonic Disc!"
A massive disc tore through the air. Digi Blade hurled dozens of digitized blades—but each one shattered on impact. He leapt back just before the disc hit the ground, shockwaves rippling outward and knocking him off his feet.
Kira dashed forward, punching again and again. Her blows blurred, leaving faint shockwaves with each strike. Digi Blade stumbled, but dodged her final aerial punch, sending her crashing into cracked pavement.
He straightened, wiping a strand of blood from his brow.
"Have you seen a double-edged sword?" he asked. "How about a double-edged spear?"
He digitized a new weapon—a long green spear glowing with binary code—and swung it in sweeping arcs. The air whistled dangerously. Kira barely ducked each strike.
"Time for aura power," she growled.
Her aura flared, rippling the air. She seized one blade of the spear and crushed it into glittering shards.
Digi Blade snarled and swung the other end, but Kira punched it, shattering it and dissolving the spear completely.
"FYI," she smirked, "martial arts beats swordsmanship every time."
A spin-kick sent him sprawling.
"Digi Blade, hurry it up!" Robber Three yelled.
"Okay, okay! Someone's impatient." Digi Blade clapped his palms together. Binary code swirled.
"Time for my ultimate—Infinity Blade Knockout."
A blade formed between his palms—then more, each tilted slightly, spiraling around his hands.
"Commencing countdown: 100... 99... 98..."
Decibolt panicked. "No way I'm letting you finish that!"
He unleashed sonic blasts, but Digi Blade dodged everything, leaping onto a building, then climbing higher.
"81, 80, 79..."
"SUPERSONAIC DECIBOLT!"
Decibolt's body flared with sonic energy. Platforms formed beneath his feet and carried him skyward.
"How do you like my sonic platforms?" he taunted.
"63... 62... 61..."
Decibolt blasted discs and sonic waves—every one dodged.
"When did you get THIS good at dodging?"
"47... 46... 45..."
"Kinetic Punch Barrage!" Kira shouted from below.
But Digi Blade dodged in a blur, diving off the roof.
"32... 31... 30..."
Decibolt landed behind him and punched the ground, sending Digi Blade flying.
"Dodge THIS!"
Three sonic discs sliced through the air. Digi Blade twisted away, landing perfectly on his feet.
"21... 20... 19... 18... 17..."
Kira narrowed her eyes. "What happens if I separate those palms?"
She sprinted at him—but he leapt and kicked her in the face. Blood flicked from her nose as she hit the ground.
"13... 12... 11... 10... 9..."
He dodged another barrage from Decibolt.
"3... 2... 1—TIME'S UP! FEEL THE PAIN OF INFINITY BLADES!"
He soared upward. Hundreds of blades materialized, surrounding him—then multiplied. They shot downward in a rain of green light.
The heroes couldn't dodge.
Blades tore past them, leaving slices across Kira's arms and legs and cracks along Decibolt's armor. They hit the ground hard, bruised and bleeding.
"Urgh..." Kira groaned, trying to stand but failing.
"Finish it!" Robber Three yelled.
Digi Blade stretched his arms apart—palms opening to reveal a single glowing connection at the wrists. A massive blade digitized between them.
"This is the END FOR YOU!"
Decibolt gritted his teeth. "No puny summon destroys me—NOT when I'm using Supersonic Decibolt!"
Two sonic discs formed along his arms. Platforms of sound spiraled upward. He ran straight up the giant blade, shredding through it with both discs.
At the top, he leapt.
"You showed us your most powerful attack—now meet MINE!"
FINAL SUPERSONIC RIPPLE BLAST!
He merged Sonic Pulse Blast and Deci Cannon into one colossal beam. It slammed into Digi Blade, hurling him into the ground with bone-shaking force before exploding into yellow smoke.
Kira destroyed the weakened remaining blade with a Kinetic Punch.
Robber Three froze. "Oh... shoot."
Decibolt blinked behind him, using a sonic platform, and flicked his forehead. The robber dropped instantly.
"Why do you even try?" Decibolt muttered. "Now for the rest."
"No worries," Kira said, bruised but steady. "I got this."
She hopped onto her Hiver Bike and sped after the fleeing robbers.
Later — Kira's House
Steam rose from two bowls of vegetable soup.
Kira tasted hers. "Not bad. Actually... this isn't half bad."
Hakim puffed his chest. "You have my crystals to thank for the veggies—and YouTube University for my cooking skills."
Kira raised a brow. "You used your crystals on my vegetables, and nothing happened."
Hakim nearly dropped his spoon. "What do you mean 'nothing happened'? They're more nutritious and better-looking than ever! Wait..."
A pause.
"Did you think they'd mutate into crystal veggie beasts we'd have to battle?"
"...Maybe," she admitted.
Hakim stared at her. "What kind of kids' cartoon do you think this is?"
